Inspiration
Our team had two main objectives: to build a POC for something that can be of use one day. The next is that we wanted to learn as much as possible. We all picked up tools that we do not have much experience with.
What it does
The app recommends some basic things that are valuable for any trip overnight. Additionally the app recommends items that are valuable specifically to where you are going and where you are coming from. The app detects the weather, popular attractions of the city you are going to, where you are coming from, and the duration of your stay in order to determine what recommendations it will give you.
How we built it
We built it using multiple API calls in the back such as the weather API to measure the weather conditions and make some recommendations based on that. Furthermore, we used the duration to approximate how many bags and stuff you need in general. We used the Geolocation API to see how far away you are traveling and recommend things based on that like passport, identification, etc.
Challenges we ran into
We had challenges with tools we are using. However, one of our main goals was to struggle and learn these tools. For example, on the frontend we used Redux, a very advanced JavaScript Library, with the combination of a Middle-ware to store global variables in the Redux-Store
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have a working app, already a win in our minds, that can help people feel more prepared when they are traveling.
What we learned
We learned a lot of tools ranging from backend or frontend. Furthermore, we learned how to work as a team and stay positive at difficult moments.
What's next for Ultimate Packer
The next step to ultimate packer would be to make a login system and make these preferences even more personalized to each and every person.
