Inspiration

We wanted to make a dating app that is specific to UMD students. This would make it easier and safer for them to find other people like them.

What it does

Our app, UMD Match, is basically a dating app that is designed specifically for the students of the University of Maryland. The app opens to a homepage and a login page with users’ data stored in a database. The users are asked to select some of their interests, which is necessary for the matching process of our app. Users can then swipe right or left to match with other users that they find interesting. We have also included a chat feature in our app which enables users to connect with the matches.

How we built it

We built the app using Flutter. Firebase was used for the account database.

Challenges we ran into

It was a bit difficult to learn the technologies that we needed, as none of us had Flutter experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Most of us were able to make good progress with the part of the project that we were assigned.

What we learned

We learned the basics of Flutter and how to put together a project as a group.

What's next for UMD Match

The app can be made more cohesive and the matching process can be made more intricate. The app can also make the connections between couples last by giving date suggestions around campus or introducing fun games to get to know each other.
