Inspiration
We have gathered as a team with pure admiration for Oculus Rift, and to maximize its full potential, we decided to create a horror game in Unity. Even though most members were not familiar with either Unity or C#, we managed to create a finished product in the end!
What it does
It will scare you. Just grab an Oculus Rift and jump in :)
How I built it
It would be great if I could explain how we built it, but at this very moment, I am a bit too exhausted to remember everything we did during the project. We have used a free graphics and sound asset that is available in Unity Asset Store, but the level design, the enemy AI, and the main menu UI were all created by us.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge was our familiarity with Unity. Once we passed that hurdle, we realized that Oculus Rift requires a computer with high spec graphics card, which none of us had. In the end, we built our game without actual testing until the very end. We borrowed a fellow hacker's awesome laptop to test our finished game at the end (which was an awesome experience). Also, I personally struggled to stay awake for 2 days in a row, since my stamina is lacking.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
What else can I say? We created what we wanted to create (in time!).
What I learned
OCULUS RIFT IS AWESOME
What's next for Unavoidable
Right now, Unavoidable is in its early alpha stage. It has a core function where a player can enjoy, but it doesn't have the necessary details to fully express the depth of our intended horror. Also, most of the works we created were all made without using Git (OH NO!), so hopefully, my teammates are still willing to update our game in the future when they have time. But since we don't personally own Oculus Rift, we will probably lose our interest quite soon. It's time to create a next game!
