Inspiration
With our project, we wanted to create something that would bring people together. Though the importance of mental health is now widely understood, it can still be quite difficult to meaningfully open up to others about ones struggles and feelings.
What it does
Unfold allows people to express themselves simply with the reassurance, promise, and purpose of helping people to open up.
How we built it
Our frontend was built with HTML and CSS, and our backend was built using Django and CockroachDB.
Challenges we ran into
The time limit was a major challenge for us! We really felt like we were working against the clock to build this website.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Most of us have never worked in full-stack web development before, so we really feel like we learned a lot about backend programming and databases while developing this website. Our team is really proud of the functionality we managed to bring to our website despite our initial lack of knowledge.
What we learned
Our team learned how to build a high-fidelity prototype of our product in Figma. We also learned how to use Python with the Django framework to create the backend for our website.
What's next for Unfold
Some next steps we have laid out for Unfold include implementing a "hug" feature as an alternative to traditional social media "likes", as well as a reporting system to ensure the platform remains a safe space for everybody. We would also like to introduce fully responsive web design so that Unfold can be accessed from any device seamlessly and reliably.
