Inspiration

The inspiration behind Unicircle stemmed from recognizing the need for a comprehensive platform tailored specifically for college students, addressing their diverse needs ranging from academic discussions to social interactions and job opportunities.

What it does

Unicircle serves as a multifunctional platform designed to enhance the college experience for students. It offers various modules such as Hot, Posts, Subjects, and Activities, each catering to different aspects of student life. Users can engage in lively discussions, seek assistance, buy and sell items, participate in activities, and more, all within a single application.

How we built it

Unicircle was built using a combination of modern technologies. On the frontend, React and Next.js were utilized for building dynamic user interfaces, while Material-UI (MUI) provided a library of UI components for a sleek and intuitive design. The backend was developed using Spring Boot, ensuring seamless integration and robust functionality.

Challenges we ran into

Due to time constraints, we were unable to thoroughly test compatibility across different devices within the three-day timeframe. Therefore, we decided to design our website targeting iPhone 14 Pro Max and showcase it accordingly. This decision was facilitated by the fact that one of our team members owns this device.

Furthermore, the workload over the past three days has been substantial. While we exerted considerable effort in development, there were still numerous features that couldn't be fully developed on both frontend and backend. As a solution, we opted to simulate certain functionalities using mock data with Mock.js to lighten the workload. Despite this approach, we ensured that our project's key features were adequately demonstrated.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite the challenges, we are proud to have developed a comprehensive platform that addresses the diverse needs of college students. From fostering engaging discussions to facilitating social interactions and providing job opportunities, Unicircle has the potential to greatly enhance the college experience for students.

What we learned

Through the development of Unicircle, we have not only enhanced our technical skills in frontend and backend development but also improved our teamwork capabilities. Collaborating on such a multifaceted project required effective communication and coordination, which has significantly strengthened our ability to work together as a team.

What's next for Unicircle

Moving forward, we plan to continue refining and expanding Unicircle to further meet the evolving needs of college students. This includes implementing responsive design for better compatibility across devices, enhancing features based on user feedback, and exploring opportunities for partnerships and integrations with educational institutions and local businesses. Our ultimate goal is to establish Unicircle as the go-to platform for college students, enriching their academic and social experiences in meaningful ways.
