UniFi

What it does

Unifi is an AI-powered financial platform designed to be accessible to those with or without bank accounts. It uses advanced computer vision to digitize money orders, enabling easy access to digital funds. Users can transfer money securely within the app, set up virtual cards for online purchases, and get financial guidance from our AI assistant, all without needing a traditional bank account.

How we built it

We developed Unifi using a robust MongoDB backend for secure data storage, a React frontend for a user-friendly experience, and integrated Google Vision API to digitize money orders safely. Our AI assistant provides financial support, and we designed seamless money transfer capabilities with encrypted data management.

Challenges we ran into

We faced the challenge of securely digitizing money orders and preventing repeated scans to avoid fraud. Another hurdle was ensuring the AI assistant provided useful and understandable financial advice for users who might not have much experience with financial technology. Balancing security and simplicity was key.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of creating a platform that democratizes financial services for underbanked users. Successfully implementing computer vision for money order digitization and building a secure, intuitive user experience were significant milestones. Our AI assistant also brings valuable financial support to those who need it most.

What we learned

We learned the complexity of designing for an underbanked audience, emphasizing the importance of security, fraud prevention, and a simple user experience. We also discovered how AI and computer vision can transform accessibility in the financial space.

What's next for UniFi

We aim to integrate mobile money solutions, expand partnerships to offer more financial services, and enhance our AI assistant’s capabilities. Further efforts will be dedicated to refining security features and broadening our impact to reach more unbanked and underbanked communities globally.
