Inspiration

The struggle with language barriers was a common experience for both of us, coming from Ukraine and Belarus. This shared challenge inspired us to find a solution to help others who may be facing similar difficulties.

We wanted to create a tool that would make language learning accessible and enjoyable, regardless of one's background or location. Our goal was to help bridge the communication gap and break down language barriers, making the world a more connected and inclusive place. Our personal experiences with language barriers fueled our motivation to make a positive impact and inspired us to develop UnitYT.

How it works

Copy paste the link to youtube video into the input box, then press enter and wait for it to give a quality video summary in a few bullet points in English. This tool can translate from over a DOZEN languages to English.

How we built it

We build our application in Replit, Using HTML and CSS for front end and python for backend. We used flask library to link the front and back end together. We also used openai API in order to handle some of the language processing and youtube api in order to access the videos on youtube. You can view our project using the github link below.

Challenges we ran into

One obstacle we encountered was linking Python to HTML. To overcome this, we extensively researched through multiple documents and Stack Overflow articles, dedicating a considerable amount of time to acquire the necessary understanding and knowledge of Flask required to construct a functional website with a cool backend.

What we learned

We learned how to use Flask and connect HTML and Python, as well as mastered integrating APIs, Open AI, and others.
