Inspiration

Our international team discovered a shocking similarity despite our time zone differences: that we all knew people in our community who feared vaccination because of a fear of experiencing side effects. As vaccination is a crucial step to stop the spreading of this disease, we decided to help solve this problem. VaxFam aims to remove these fears by providing a platform for those who have been vaccinated to share their experience with community members and encourage each other with heartfelt advice and motivation to bring us to a safer tomorrow

What it does

The website displays a live counter of the number of people in a community who have been vaccinated, as well as a live regional breakdown of vaccination rates under “VaxStats”. This helps create a sense of community amongst users and encourage vaccination. In case of delay in the update from the original database via the government, citizens who get vaccinated can choose to contribute to our database by filling up the “VaxFam” form provided at the end of the website. Users can also view the experience of other people who have taken the vaccine under “VaxStories” to abate faulty rumors about vaccination consequences.

How we built it

HTML, JavaScript, CSS

Challenges we ran into

Implementing the actual number count and linking it to a database is a long and complex process and could not be completed Storing the experiences/details of people and then displaying it in the cards Making the website more region specific by using the GPS technology Coming up with a efficient work schedule due to the difference in time zones

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Combining all of our expertise and learning how to work together to generate a useful idea. Have a good looking website which covers most of the basic functionalities that we wish to implement Pushed through the time zone difficulties and accomplished to create a basic working frontend for the website

What we learned

Dived more into the world of HTML and CSS and started basics of javascript and how it is used in web development Learned about devpost and how hackathons work in general

What's next for VaxFam

We hope to add the location feature and make the app more region specific and connect the frontend of the website to a fully functional backend. We also hope to add vaccination verification features, such as scanning a QR code, to increase VaxStories’ reliability
