Inspiration

"VitalSync was born out of a deeply personal experience—my love and concern for my grandfather. Despite his strength and independence, I noticed that his health was becoming more fragile. He would downplay his issues, fearing that we might worry or, worse, suggest a nursing home. This fear, coupled with the desire to respect his independence, inspired me to create VitalSync—a discreet health monitoring system that ensures safety without compromising dignity."

What it does

"VitalSync is more than just a health monitoring system. It’s a comprehensive solution that continuously tracks vital signs like blood pressure, blood sugar, and oxygen levels. What sets VitalSync apart is its ability to analyze trends over time, providing real-time alerts and insights that spot measurements simply can’t. Families can now have peace of mind, knowing they’re always connected to their loved one’s health, no matter where they are." Should things really escalate, Sense also allows sharing data directly with the doctor for review by simply scanning a QR code.

How we built it

"The VitalSync system is built on robust, reliable technology. We’ve used Arduino-compatible hardware, specifically the ESP32, as the core of our wearable nodes. These nodes are equipped with non-invasive sensors that continuously monitor vital signs. Data is securely transmitted to the cloud, where it’s analyzed and stored, ready to be accessed in real-time through our mobile app or web interface. This seamless integration of hardware and software ensures that VitalSync is both user-friendly and effective."

Challenges we ran into

"Developing VitalSync wasn’t without its challenges. We had to ensure that the system was both accurate and unobtrusive—no small feat when dealing with sensitive health data. Security and privacy were paramount, so we implemented robust encryption and secure communication protocols. Another challenge was managing the wearable’s battery life, ensuring it could run efficiently while maintaining accuracy. Overcoming these hurdles was crucial to delivering a reliable and trustworthy product."

Accomplishments that we're proud of

*"I’m incredibly proud of what VitalSync has achieved. My grandfather, and others who have used the system, continue to live their lives with confidence, knowing they are safe without sacrificing their independence.

What we learned

"This journey has taught us invaluable lessons. We learned the importance of empathy in designing technology, especially when addressing the needs and fears of the elderly and their families. We also gained a deep appreciation for the complexity of healthcare technology and the rigorous standards required for accuracy and security. Listening to user feedback and continuously refining the product has been key to our success."
