Inspiration
We found that many struggled to rekindle the community they used to have whilst living on campus. So we wanted to come up with a social app to help those in a similar situation.
What it does
When you go to the site you'll be prompted to make an account where you will input your name and short bio, and then a few interests. Then you let our algorithm do the work to help connect with others with similar interests.
How we built it
We used React to help create multiple pages without needing to switch between pages, along with a JSON server to store user data.
Challenges we ran into
Implementing React took more time than we would have liked given we were trying to also learn it in parallel. Along with porting icons that used to work with HTML into React
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting React to work within a day with no experience.
What we learned
We learned generally how React works so we can use it in future endeavors. Along with better prototyping techniques and quick deployment.
What's next for VTMates
Fully fleshing out our map idea to make the app more interactive, along with adding better messaging.
