Inspiration
We wanted to create an app that grouped people together so they could walk home more safely.
What it does
It uses an algorithm to divide walk requests into groups, taking into account everyone's preferences.
How we built it
We used a full stack, combining
firebase,
firsestore,
firebase auth,
react,
node js,
google cloud functions,
material ui,
semantic ui,
google geocoding API,
For a intuitive and seamless user experience.
Challenges we ran into
Learning to combine and integrate everyone's contributions as a team into one project. This was rather difficult because our app has many different kinds of subcomponents plugging into one another.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We have an app that works (already a win in our minds!) and that is pretty cool. It has full cloud-based authentication capabilities, a complex tech stack, and a dynamic algorithm for grouping that interacts with our database.
What we learned
How to use all the tools we implemented, and how to work better as a team. Also we learned Nik does not have a Red Bull limit and it does in fact give you wiiings :)
What's next for Walkshare
Build on our location streaming for more safety features, and a in-app messaging capacity
