Inspiration
Our inspiration for Wanderwise came from the desire to create a seamless travel experience that combines exploration with convenience. We wanted to empower users to discover new destinations, plan their trips, and book their dream vacations all in one place. The idea was to bring together the excitement of discovering new places with the ease of modern technology, using AI and mapping features to make travel easy journey enjoyable.
What it does
Wanderwise allows users to check out places with our built-in map feature, where they can locate any place they wish to visit. The platform also incorporates AI to allow travel recommendations and inquiry answers. Additionally, with our upcoming integration with the Booking.com API, users will be able to book their ideal vacations directly through the platform, making Wanderwise a one-stop solution for all travel needs.
How we built it
We built Wanderwise using a combination of front-end and back-end technologies. The map feature was implemented using react Leaflet and Weather API to allow previews of the place and weather forecasting. The platform is powered by a middle-end using NextJs, and we are currently integrating the Booking.com API to enable direct bookings. The entire project was developed with user experience in mind, ensuring a seamless and intuitive interface.
Challenges we ran into
One of the significant challenges we faced was integrating the various technologies into the website like trying to integrate wiki scraper with Ai to allow more context to the destination questions. Another example was AI integration that can provided accurate and personalized recommendations required fine-tuning and extensive testing. Additionally, the upcoming Booking.com API integration presented its own set of challenges, particularly in aligning it with our existing infrastructure. We also faced some difficulties in optimizing the map feature for speed and responsiveness across different devices.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are incredibly proud of the intuitive user interface we’ve developed, which makes exploring and booking trips an enjoyable experience. The successful implementation of AI to provide personalized travel suggestions is another milestone we’re excited about. We’re also proud of the upcoming integration with Booking.com, which will greatly enhance the functionality of our platform and make it a comprehensive tool for travelers.
What we learned
Throughout the development of Wanderwise, we learned the importance of cutting back our losses instead of trying to make flask and mongodb work we moved and improve the website with supabase and Next.js. We also gained valuable experience in integrating multiple APIs and technologies into a single platform, and the importance of maintaining a balance between functionality and user experience. Additionally, we learned how crucial it is to thoroughly test each feature to ensure it works seamlessly with the rest of the platform especially the Ai and Wikiscarper that broke the code.
What's next for Wanderwise
The next step for Wanderwise is to finalize and launch the Booking.com API integration, allowing users to book vacations directly from our platform. We also plan to continue enhancing our AI recommendations by incorporating more data and user feedback. Upvotes, downvotes, reviews, and more. In the future, we aim to expand our offerings by adding features such as travel itineraries, real-time weather updates, and a social component where users can share their travel experiences and tips. Our ultimate goal is to make Wanderwise the go-to platform for all travel planning needs.
