Inspiration
Having had multiple experiences of asking the void that is WesAdmits for a ride/to split an uber to the airport only to receive a couple of likes and no responses, I figured it would be nice to have a tool that makes it easy to check if there's already a group Wes students who happen to be going to your same destination at the right time.
What it does
WesPool allows users to organize their own rides and join already scheduled rides, offering a convenient way to save time and money when trying to find a means to the airport/train station from campus.
How I built it
I used React to build WesPool, from top to bottom. In the future, when I will inevitably need to develop the backend more, I will likely incorporate node.js and some database.
Challenges we ran into
This was my first time ever using React, so it was quite the challenge. The most difficult thing for me at first was simply figuring out the order of operations for loading all the different "components" and stuff. I also ran into many syntax issues, as was expected, which resulted in painstaking debugging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The website is somehow functional! It looks pretty basic and there are many ways it can be buffed up, but that's whats also exciting: I have a pretty clear idea of what the next steps are (listed in the "TODO" section the readme in my github repo).
What we learned
Sometimes, the best way to learn something is by forcing yourself to struggle through it.
What's next for WesPool
