Inspiration
Undertale, Pokemon, other pixel graphics RPG games.
What it does
Allows a single player to traverse through various towns as Theodore Frostbane while interacting w/ various world objects & NPCs. Allows the player to collect weapons, potions, and items that are then available for use from their inventory menu both inside and outside of battle (depending on the item).
How we built it
Using GB Studio! Music - written by Tim Losito using GB Studio's music composition tool. Backgrounds - composed by Tim Losito in Tiled and edited by Tim Losito in Aseprite using various openly sourced tilesets. Sprites - drawn and animated by Tim Losito in Aseprite. Dialogue - written by Tim Losito. Scene changes, collisions, and event triggers were set up by Tim Losito using built-in GB Studio mechanisms.
Challenges we ran into
I was originally going to write this game in GBZ80 assembly language (which I have been learning for the past two weeks), but I realized that I would not be able to fully understand audio programming in time for the hackathon, so I decided to use GB Studio at the last minute so my game could have music.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Music, art, funny dialogue, and how much of the world I was able to build out within 24 hours.
What we learned
A lot about GBZ80 assembly syntax and project structure as well as use of Tiled & Aseprite.
What's next for Wiz World
