Inspiration
As college students, we are frequently trying to look for different ways to study as efficiently as possible, but many of the tips that are found online need some type of added novelty or functionality to work how they are intended. We were inspired by the Pomodoro technique, which uses a timed approach to studying or doing work. The idea is that you set a 25-minute timer to do work. Once the time runs out, take a five-minute break, and repeat. This reframes your mindset to work with an effort-based goal rather than thinking of the whole task. Aiming to complete the whole task leads to procrastination and is the daunting manner at which we usually look at tasks.
What it does
We developed a Pomodoro app that encourages increased productivity by integrating an extra level of connection with the completion of the goal. The application includes both a 25 minute and 5 minute timer which allow the user to track the pomodoro work schedule, and the highlight of the application is a mini pixle pet, Kenny, which stays on your screen while you work to and once you take your brake you can interact with it.
How we built it
We used a combination of C# within unity and windows API's to create the overlaying timer and motivational pet.
