Inspiration
As a writer, I've often struggled with the tendency to stop as I write to edit my work as I go. This is a bad practice for writers as it inhibits the ability to move forward with the story. I know many others who have this problem, so I figured having a platform that allows writers to save their work with an option of not going back and editing it would help many overcome this struggle.
What it does
Write Live has an Editing Mode On and Off option. While on Editing Mode: Off, you can write and save you work, but once saved, your work is moved to an uneditable section where you cannot change anything. This allows you to stay focused on moving forward with the story. You can always go back to Editing Mode: On by clicking the button and this will move your story back to the editable section. There is also a word count feature where you can set your word count goal and as you save your work, the word count tracker updates your current word count.
How I built it
I used HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Bootstrap to create this project.
Challenges I ran into
Since it was my first time using Bootstrap, I had to learn how to use the different components. There were also some simple functionality issues that were easy to fix.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud of creating a platform that can hopefully help writers overcome a pretty common struggle!
What I learned
I learned about Bootstrap and it's capabilities. It really made developing the UI for this platform so much easier!
What's next for Write Live
The next thing would be to add a log-in feature so that users can save their work in their account and go back anytime to add to it. I'd also like to add a story-prompt generator to help writers gets started if they're out of ideas.
