Inspiration

We wanted to create something that will help young people who are newly diagnosed as neurodivergent. We struggled with our diagnosis when we were young because everyone saw it as a disability and there were not many resources that aided us, just programs that intended to "fix us". More specifically, one of our team members has a brother which ADHD, which has shown from a first point perspective how damaging this can be, emotionally and in an academic environment. Being called "lazy" and "dumb" due to lack of information and resources is a huge problem that should be addressed

What it does

Concentration and meditation aid for neurodivergent youth.

How we built it

We designed the site using Figma, and created visuals on Ibis Paint X

Challenges we ran into

As first times users of Figma, we ran into some run of the mill issues with the program, but were able to resolve most of them. Choosing a color palette that could bring a feel of calmness and focus to the user without using to many visual elements that will be distracting to the user.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are especially prod of the visuals and the purpose of the app, it has a personal connection for us and we hope it can help people like us. We are also proud of our prototype as neither of us have experience with ui/ux design nor web design.

What we learned

Time management, now to use ui/ux design, web building, etc. This whole process was new for both of us and we enjoyed learning about product design.

What's next for Yako

In the future we would like to add a music element, as we noticed there are two states of a neurodivergent person: Over and Understimulated. Music like Phonk and Hyperpop can help one who is understimulated reach the desired level of focus. Likewise, Classical and Lofi music can help those who are overstimulated.
