Inspiration

We want to inspire more women to take a leap into the tech world, and the first step is to expose them to coding fundamentals and all they can do with it beyond what they think they can do with it. Many may think going into this field is only if one is interested in making games, websites, or anything related to technology. However, it is more versatile that that. You can learn coding for science, for the arts, for business, basically any field you're interested, you can apply coding to. We want women to know that there are options and we want to cater teaching programming languages to their personal interest and goal in life, not the other way around.

What it does it do

It is an mobile app that teaches women to code but in a fun way. Through a virtual simulation game, users can choose what story they want to be a part of (Entrepreneurship, healthcare, education). Each story will have a specific coding language that is most widely used in that field so users can take away the knowledge and skills learned from this app into the real world. Once they pick the story, they can pick the location (city, farm, etc). Then the lessons begin. There are many lesson in a story depending on language. Users will go through each lesson and a series of practice questions. The more practice questions they get right in the least amount of tries, the more experience points they earn in the game to be used towards building their company or their farm.

How I built it

We used Android Studio and coded in Java to build the app

Challenges I ran into

None of us had any prior experience building a mobile app, therefore we had to teach ourselves on the go. There was definitely a learning curve with Android Studio. Familiarizing ourselves with Git in Android studio was also a challenge since many of us have not used Git for control flow.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We are proud of everything we have done. Although we did not make the progress that we had originally aimed for, we still achieved a great amount of success in a small amount of time. If anything, we are very satisfied with the design of our app.

What I learned

The struggles and challenges women are facing in the tech world and in entrepreneurship Using Android Studio
