Since her emergence as a feminist leader and philosopher/activist during the ’80s, I have always found her perspectives refreshing and new. She clearly shows what it means to be a human being first, struggling for freedom from the filtered roles in which the dominant culture attempts to entrap our thoughts and actions. Thank you for the remembrance of Holly Near. I never mistook her lover.

South Africa sounds like the USA. The elections pose identical non-viable choices, always forcing people to vote between Messiahs who are pre-selected by the elites. Every member of the US Congress stands in line once a week for their real paychecks from big capital, just like I used to do every week when the check casher truck came to the factory gate. I have no doubt that the South African Congress is no less corrupt. I think we freedom fighters in the US should be sharpening our intellects on the words of Steve Biko, not forgetting Raya Dunayevskaya, who died right after hurling the gauntlet of freedom to the youth of the 21st Century.
