The State Department is considering withholding lifesaving assistance to people with HIV in Zambia as a negotiating tactic to force the government of the southern African country to sign a deal giving the United States more access to its critical minerals. "We will only secure our priorities by demonstrating willingness to publicly take support away from Zambia on a massive scale," a draft of a memo prepared for Secretary of State Marco Rubio by the department's Africa Bureau staff says. A copy of the memo was obtained by The New York Times. Some 1.3 million people in Zambia rely on daily HIV treatment that is provided through the decades-old U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (known as PEPFAR) and on tuberculosis and malaria medications that save tens of thousands of Zambian lives each year. The Trump administration is considering whether to "significantly cut assistance" as soon as May, to increase pressure on Zambia, the memo says.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, a supporter of President Donald Trump, shared a post on X stating that "thermonuclear detonations" could create a new waterway as disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz continue amid the Iran war. "Instead of fighting over a 21-mile-wide bottleneck forever, we cut a new channel through friendly territory. A dozen thermonuclear detonations and you've got a waterway wider than the Panama Canal, deeper than the Suez, and safe from Iranian attacks," Gingrich said on X Sunday, appearing to quote a satirical Substack article, which he linked in the post.
DOGE employees Justin Fox and Nate Cavanaugh testified in lengthy legal depositions that they were giddy about slashing jobs and destroying careers when they cut "useless agencies" as part of DOGE's nefarious attempt to rid the federal government of minorities and undesirables under the cover of reducing the federal deficit.

America is going through something similar to 9/11 and will be far more influential. The damage to our national security, our economy, our relationship to the rest of the world cannot be understated. This is truly the death of the American empire. We are showing ourselves to be a paper tiger. We have denigrated our allies for the past 14 months and now they are saying F U. We are destroying the economies of ME countries who were desperately trying to move from a post-colonial world to economies based on something other than natural resource exploitation. Read more

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Former U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema acknowledges having a romantic relationship with a member of her security detail that began while she was a lawmaker, according to legal documents. But she also contends she shouldn't be subject to a lawsuit by the man's ex-wife who blames Sinema for the marriage breakup. The North Carolina federal court litigation seeks financial damages from Sinema, who represented Arizona in the U.S. House and later the Senate for one term that ended early last year. Heather Ammel contends in a lawsuit that she and husband Matthew had "a good and loving marriage" and "genuine love and affection" existed between them before Sinema interfered, pursuing him despite knowing he was married. CHICAGO, March 16 (Reuters) -- Striking JBS employees took to the streets of Greeley, Colorado, before sunrise on Monday to picket against the world's largest meat company, in a rare labor stoppage at a U.S. meatpacking plant and a sign of upheaval in the beef industry. The union representing about 3,800 employees at the beef processing facility said it was the first time U.S. meatpacking workers had gone on strike in four decades. They launched a two-week strike and will remain on the picket lines until JBS negotiates fairly with workers, the union said. Read more
Democrats' refusal to fund the Department of Homeland Security has exceeded any hypothesis of good faith. It is an unpatriotic attack on America's frontline of defense during a time of war and potential Iranian sleeper cells, and an inexcusable burden on the department's employees. Last week, all Senate Democrats, except John Fetterman, again voted to block funding for DHS. Financed in part by malign foreign powers who seek to defeat the United States, radical left activists have co-opted the Democratic Party. Rep. Brad Schneider of Illinois, head of the supposedly centrist New Democrat Coalition, typifies the illogic. "My concern about DHS is their absolute disregard of the Constitution and American citizens' civil rights," he said, adding "So until we see officers who abuse citizens' civil rights held to full account, until we restore full congressional oversight, I'm not giving another penny to ICE and CBP."

The family of Tech Sgt. Tyler Simmons, 28"one of six American service members killed Thursday when an Air Force refueling aircraft crashed while supporting military operations in Iran"said they believe his death could have been prevented. "Just the worst nightmare we could ever imagine. We trust in God that he will comfort us and be with our family," Simmons' cousin, Stephan Douglas, told NBC4 in Simmons' native Ohio. "We believe this could have been prevented. It's a sad day." Douglas added that "We didn't need to be in this war." "This is uncalled for, and this is what we get," he said. Simmons' grandmother, Bernice Smith, echoed the same sentiment to NBC4. "Families are suffering right now," she said. "Just to create a war because you want to create a war is not right." Read more
President Trump announced on Monday that White House chief of staff Susie Wiles has been diagnosed with early stage breast cancer.
Trump made the announcement in a TruthSocial post, noting that Wiles has decided to take on treatment "immediately."

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that kamikaze sea drones, also called naval kamikaze drones or uncrewed surface vessels, are fake and created by artificial intelligence. He argued that if they existed, the U.S. would have destroyed them like other boats, and questioned why no one has seen them. The remarks sparked widespread discussion referencing their use by Ukraine against Russia's Black Sea Fleet.
