Salvation Army to trial new donation bank monitoring technology in bid to improve collection

Salvation Army Trading Company manages a huge network of charity textile banks across the UK collecting thousands of tonnes of donated items per year. Donated clothing and textiles generate income to help The Salvation Army run a huge variety of programmes to support the most vulnerable people in communities across the UK.

Using FarSite’s innovative fill level monitoring technology, Salvation Army Trading Company aims to reduce collection costs, enabling the organisation to process donations from the public with improved efficiency. Implementing this technology could generate even more income for the charity.

From June 2016 104 Salvation Army textile banks in the East Midlands were fitted with netBin sensors to monitor fill levels giving crucial insight into the filling patterns and general behaviour of donors. This information will primarily allow the textile banks to be emptied in the most efficient way possible therefore reducing collection costs and risks of overflowing.

As one of the largest collectors of donated clothing in the UK we are constantly seeking ways of improving the efficiency of our operations.  The ability to get accurate fill levels on a timely basis would be a real step forward in the planning and emptying of our network of over 6000 clothing banks and this exciting trial with FarSite will help us learn just how big this step can be.

Greenovo bring netBin to China

Greenovo enjoy rapid netBin success in Hong Kong and China

Greenovo, FarSite’s netBin recently appointed reseller based in Hong Kong a company specialising in environmental technology solutions in the waste management sector has already won two major contracts for netBin.

A major Chinese waste handling company using modern collection methods with contracts in number of Chinese cities has chosen netBin to improve the efficiency of managing those contracts. The solution will be deployed in two cities. Initially to gain intelligence on waste filling patterns so that the optimum size bins can be deployed together with a reduced collection rate. At a later stage automatic routing will be introduced further refine and improve efficiency of the waste collection process. The API built into the netBin system will also be use to interface the company’s main management platform.

The second contract is for local government to monitor waste collection rates in waste collection houses. A novel technical approach was chosen where the nPod’s are fixed in the waste houses and the bins placed under them, this allows for chute blockage to also be detected. The project initially as a pilot aims to improve the efficiency of waste collection by using netBin’s fill rate monitoring of the bins to optimise collection schedules and raise alerts when chute blockage occurs. Use of netBin automatic bin routing is planned to be utilised at a later stage in the project.

Australian netBin reseller EYEfi are giving councils the waste management information they need

Australian netBin reseller EYEfi has been making waves in the litter bin monitoring market by utilising netBin within the EYEfi® Smart Sensor offering.

Melbourne City Council use australian netBin

EYEfi’s Smart Sensor system, is improving the way City of Melbourne’s waste services manage rubbish collections, by utilising EYEfi sensors located in street bins across the central business district that automatically monitor bin fill levels, using ultrasonic sensors and the cloud-based application.

The system generates dynamic data on fill rates, fill profiles and other key metrics that helps ensure bins are positioned in the best locations to service demand. This in turn enables performance improvements and greater efficiency of the bin network and waste collections.

“The system provides entirely new data and intelligence for customers on their bin networks,” says  Simon Langdon EYEfi’s Managing Director.

Each sensor can  provide alerts to waste management teams when waste in a bin reaches a particular level, eg, 80%. The platform automatically calculates dynamic collection schedules and navigational information and delivers this to drivers on their smartphone, so collections can be executed in the most efficient way. The system’s proactive alerting features enable waste services to prevent rubbish overflowing onto streets, into drains and waterways, before it becomes a problem,” Langdon explains. “It also enables a more transparent and productive service while reducing operational costs.”
