On 26 May, a consortium meeting will take place within the framework of the CREATECH project, bringing together project partners to review progress, align ongoing activities, and define the next steps of implementation.

The Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) participates in the project as a full partner within the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Higher Education Institutions (HEI) Initiative. In this context, the Faculty of Design, a member of the EMUNI network, is involved as an associated partner and will also take part in the meeting.

The meeting will be held in Koper and Ljubljana, with activities distributed across both locations. Discussions will focus on the coordination of work streams, alignment of methodological approaches, and the further development of project outputs, particularly at the intersection of creative industries, technology, and innovation. As part of the project’s regular coordination framework, the meeting will support closer collaboration among partners, clarify priorities for the upcoming period, and contribute to a more consistent and effective implementation of planned activities.

On the occasion of Francophonie Day, EMUNI University organized a vibrant and engaging debate titled “La langue française, un cadeau de la France.” The event brought together students and academics to reflect on the cultural, historical, and global significance of the French language.

The round table featured active participation from students of IBC, who contributed diverse perspectives and enriched the discussion with thoughtful arguments. The debate was expertly led by Prof. Polona Oblak, whose guidance ensured a dynamic and insightful exchange of ideas.

EMUNI was also honored to welcome Prof. Hassan Nadir Kheirallah as a guest, whose presence added depth and international perspective to the conversation.

The event highlighted the role of the French language as a bridge between cultures and a tool for dialogue across borders. It also reaffirmed EMUNI’s commitment to promoting cultural diversity, multilingualism, and academic exchange within the Mediterranean region and beyond.

Francophonie Day at EMUNI was not only a celebration of language, but also a celebration of shared values, dialogue, and global connection.

Koper, 17 March 2026 – EMUNI University, in collaboration with the Science and Research Centre Koper (ZRS Koper), today hosted the presentation and signing of a letter of intent for the establishment of a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC). The initiative marks a significant milestone in advancing long-term institutional cooperation across the Northern Adriatic region and the wider Euro-Mediterranean area.

The proposed EGTC aims to create a strategic platform that will enhance collaboration in research, innovation, and knowledge exchange, while also strengthening ties between academia, public institutions, and the business sector. A key focus of the initiative is to deepen cross-border cooperation with partners in Italy and Croatia, reinforcing the region’s role as a dynamic hub for innovation and development.

The event, held at EMUNI University in Koper, brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives of municipalities, regional institutions, development agencies, business organizations, and public bodies. Their participation reflects a shared commitment to building stronger institutional partnerships and improving access to European funding opportunities.

A highlight of the event was the presence of the Slovenian Minister for Cohesion and Regional Development, Dr Aleksander Jevšek, whose attendance underscored the national importance of the initiative.

During the meeting, EMUNI University and ZRS Koper presented the core objectives of the EGTC, alongside examples of successful cross-border projects implemented in cooperation with Italian and Croatian partners. These projects demonstrate the strong potential of the Northern Adriatic region to evolve into a leading innovation ecosystem within the Mediterranean macro-region.

The establishment of the EGTC is expected to further consolidate regional cooperation, support sustainable development, and position the partnership as a key driver of innovation and integration in the Euro-Mediterranean space.

On Wednesday, 6 May 2026, a scientific conference titled Corporate Responsibility for Environmental and Human Rights Due Diligence in EU and Slovenian Law will take place in Koper, Slovenia. The event will be organised in a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend either in person or online. The on-site venue will be Kreljeva Street 6, Koper.

The conference will address recent developments in the EU legal framework on corporate sustainability, environmental protection and human rights due diligence. It will bring together researchers, legal practitioners, policymakers and academics to discuss emerging regulatory trends and their implications for national legal systems and corporate governance. The event is organised within the research project “Measures of Company Law to Enhance the Competitiveness of the Slovenian Economy in Relation to Compliance with International Treaties in the Field of Human Rights and the Environment and the Fight Against Climate Change” (ARIS: V5-2514), conducted by the Legal Institute of ZRS Koper.

The conference programme committee is chaired by Prof. Dr. Rado Bohinc, President of EMUNI.

EMUNI University will host a four-day international Research Visit within the framework of the Erasmus+ project LEADHEGA – Leadership in Higher Education Development in Georgia and Azerbaijan (Project No. 101237161) from 24 to 27 March 2026. The event will take place in Koper, Slovenia, with the possibility to participate in a hybrid format.

The Research Visit will bring together project partners from Georgia, Azerbaijan, Slovenia, Ireland, and Malta to advance the development of a leadership development programme tailored to higher education institutions. The programme will include module presentations, discussions on European best practices in leadership development, preparation of Train-the-Trainers workshops, and planning of the pilot implementation phase.

Programme highlights

During the four-day programme, participants will engage in a range of activities focused on strengthening leadership capacities in higher education:

  • Presentation and discussion of eight leadership development modules, including Strategic Leadership and Governance, Managing Resources, Managing People, Developing Quality Learning, Creating Impact for Society, Leading Diversity and Inclusion, Growth Mindset Leadership, and the Organisational Improvement Project;

  • Exchange of European best practices in leadership development and institutional change;

  • An academic visit to IEDC – Bled School of Management, focusing on pedagogies and approaches to leadership development;

  • Development and coordination of Train-the-Trainers workshops;

  • Planning of pilot delivery in Georgia and Azerbaijan;

  • A project meeting addressing management, financial issues, quality assurance, and dissemination.

The event aims to strengthen institutional cooperation, enhance leadership capacities in higher education, and promote innovative and sustainable approaches to academic leadership development.

EMUNI University will host a four-day international Research Visit within the framework of the Erasmus+ project MED.HELA – Mediterranean Higher Education Leadership Academy (Project No. 101236505) from 30 March to 2 April 2026. A project meeting will also be organised as part of the visit.

The event will bring together project partners from Tunisia, Algeria, Slovenia, Spain, and Ireland to advance the establishment of the Mediterranean Higher Education Leadership Academy (MHELA) and the Mediterranean Higher Education Leadership Development Programme (MHE-LDP).

The programme will focus on:

  • defining the Academy’s structure,

  • developing programme content,

  • identifying priority leadership topics, and

  • preparing for pilot implementation.

Programme highlights

Over the course of four days, participants will engage in a series of activities aimed at strengthening leadership development in higher education across the Mediterranean region. The programme includes:

  • presentation and discussion of needs analysis results, including surveys, interviews, and 360-degree appraisal findings, with a focus on identifying priority development areas;

  • exchange of European good practices in leadership and management development, including experiences from previous and ongoing HELM-related projects;

  • collaborative development of the MHELA structure and the MHE-LDP, including topics, study materials, delivery modes, and minimum standards;

  • group work on planning pilot delivery and defining expectations for future research visits and Train-the-Trainers workshops;

  • an academic visit to IEDC – Bled School of Management, focusing on pedagogies and approaches to leadership development;

  • a project meeting addressing programme development, management and financial issues, quality assurance, KPIs, external evaluation, and dissemination.

Strengthening cooperation in the Mediterranean region

The Research Visit aims to strengthen institutional cooperation across the Mediterranean, support sustainable leadership capacity building in higher education, and contribute to the development of innovative and context-responsive academic leadership frameworks.

EMUNI University attended the General Assembly of the EUNICoast Alliance, hosted by the University of Dubrovnik, which took place in Dubrovnik from 8 to 12 March 2026. The event represented the first major gathering of alliance members since the establishment of EUNICoast, marking an important milestone in the alliance’s development.

The General Assembly provided an opportunity for joint strategic discussions, alignment of priorities, and the exchange of experiences among partner institutions across different governance levels.

During the multi-day programme, meetings were held by the Rectors’ Board, Vice-Rectors for Education and Research, the Steering Committee, teaching and research hubs, and the Student Council. In addition to these working meetings, several joint sessions were organised to encourage broader discussion and cooperation among the alliance bodies.

The programme also included thematic discussions, collaborative sessions, and informal networking opportunities, all aimed at strengthening cooperation and fostering a stronger sense of community among the partner institutions within the alliance.

The mission of the EUNICoast Alliance is to introduce students and citizens to sustainable solutions for coastal and island societies, promote a multicultural, multilingual, and inclusive European academic environment, and strengthen capacities to respond to the social and environmental challenges faced by island and coastal communities.

The European Universities Initiative, under which EUNICoast operates, is part of a European Union programme designed to strengthen the international competitiveness and quality of European higher education, while promoting European values, mobility, and cooperation among universities.
