EUSEA training

for YOU

Tailored training to

match your needs.

EUSEA has launched a new Skill Training Programme – a series of short, hands-on sessions designed to strengthen practical skills in science engagement.

Each session focuses on doing, not just discussing: participants dive into focused activities that build expertise in areas like event design, storytelling, facilitation, partnership-building, evaluation, and more.

✔️ Compact & accessible: Each training is a stand-alone, half-day session that you can fit easily into your schedule.
✔️ Interactive & practical: Learn from experienced practitioners and walk away with tools you can apply immediately.
✔️ Community-driven: Sessions are designed by and for the EUSEA community — shaped by real needs and shared experiences.

Whether you’re a science communicator, museum educator, researcher, or student eager to expand your toolkit, this programme offers a fresh way to learn, connect, and grow.

What you should know:
  • Open to everyone, with reduced fees for EUSEA members.
  • We’ll begin with a few pilot trainings to test and refine the format.
  • This is your chance to highlight the skills you want to learn and suggest trainers (including yourself!).
  • To ensure transparency, Board members and Office staff won’t deliver the pilots – instead, external trainers and nominated members will be invited
  • The cost of the training is as follows:
    • EUSEA Member – 100 EUR
    • Non-Member 350 EUR
    • I hereby confirm that I am becoming a member starting in 2026 – 100 EUR

Our next training…

Horizon Europe 101: All the basics to apply for European research and innovation funding

by Dr Gefion Thuermer

16. April 2026 – 11:00-16:00 CEST

Who is this Horizon Europe 101 training designed for?

The training is designed for people curious about Horizon Europe but unsure where to start. Maybe you have heard that these projects are worth millions of Euros (it IS the largest funding programme in the world!), and you would like a piece of that cake. Maybe you have heard from colleagues who have applied, or even succeeded, and want to take the next step in your career to do the same. You do not need any prior knowledge – the training will give you all the basics you need to get started.

If I’ve never applied for EU funding before, what can I expect to learn in this session?

You will learn all the things you need to know to get started on Horizon Europe funding. I won’t lie: a one-day training session isn’t enough for you to go away and write your own proposal. But you will also learn why that would not be a good idea (or even possible) anyway, because so much in these proposals relies on collaboration, and you need to know the shared rules!

We will go through all the foundations, like who can even apply for these funds and how, how to find the right call for you to apply to, and how to understand what on earth all that European jargon actually means. We will also run through the key components of each proposal, including methodology, impact and work packages, and budgets. My goal is that at the end of the training, you can join a consortium and know what to do next.

What practical exercises will participants get to do during the training?

There will be two key exercises: You will have the chance to dig your teeth into a specific call and put your new knowledge of rules and jargon to good use. And then you will have a go at developing an outline for a proposal, which will both give you some inspiration and a sense of where pitfalls and unexpected complexities often arise.

Alongside all of this, there will be plenty of time for questions, support, and resources that you can take home afterwards.
