The question is: which apps are actually worth your phone storage in 2026? From everyday second-hand fashion to refurbished tech and local gems, these are the shopping apps that actually help you save money in 2026. We go through the pros and cons of each - and the one app that lets you tap into several of them at the same time.

The post Best Shopping Apps 2026… and the One That Beats Them All appeared first on faircado.

]]>
This one is for people who actually want to save money, buy smarter, and maybe own fewer regret-tops. And because it’s 2026 and everyone is tired of overpaying for things, we’re especially looking at second-hand and refurbished – where you get more for less, without supporting yet another ultra-fast-fashion haul.

For this one, we’re focusing on actual shopping apps – not coupon plugins, not price comparison tools, but real marketplaces and recommerce platforms.

How we picked these apps

To make this list, an app had to:

 • let you actually buy stuff (not just compare, track or collect coupons)
 • be available in Europe
 • have a clear value: cheaper, better, second-hand, more convenient
 • not just be a BNPL, coupon, or comparison tool (sorry Klarna, Honey, idealo – not this time)

For each app, you’ll get a breakdown of:

 • What it does
 • Pros
 • Cons
 • Availability (countries)
 • Who it’s best for

And yes, faircado is first. It’s our app. But if you read to the end, you’ll see why it actually deserves the top spot for European users.

1. faircado – Best overall second-hand shopping app for European users

What it does

faircado takes Europe’s biggest second-hand and refurbished marketplaces and puts them into one single app.

Instead of checking Back Market for a phone, Vestiaire Collective for a designer bag, and ten more tabs for clothes, you:

 • search once
 • across multiple marketplaces at the same time
 • and check out with one single shopping cart

You can also search by image:

saw a fit on Pinterest, TikTok, Instagram, or on your friend in the club bathroom? Screenshot it, upload it to the app, and faircado finds the best second-hand alternatives across their partners.

Partners include major names like ebay, Sellpy, Back Market, Vestiaire Collective, plus other big and more niche marketplaces across Europe – all wrapped in one app.

Pros

 • One app, many marketplaces → less FOMO, more “okay, this genuinely is the best option”.
 • Single checkout so you don’t have to remember twelve passwords and shipping policies.
 • Search by image, not just by brand or keyword – ideal if your brain works in “saved looks”, not product names.
 • Shop from shops you’ve never even heard of. It’s about the best deal for you, not who you know.
 • Built for European users first, not as a US app that “also ships here for crazy shipping prices”.

Cons

 • Focused on second-hand and refurbished – if you only ever want brand new, full-price, this isn’t your app.
 • Still focused on Europe – if you’re outside Europe, this isn’t your MVP app (yet 👀).

Availability

 • Countries: Germany, United Kingdom, Austria, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, Finland.
 • Platforms: iOS & Android (web version coming out 2026)

Best for

If you’re in Europe and you want one app that checks multiple second-hand and refurbished marketplaces for the best deal, faircado is the most efficient option in 2026.

2. Depop – Best for niche vintage pieces

What it does

Depop is basically Instagram meets second-hand marketplace. It’s super visual and heavily driven by curated closets. It’s especially popular in the US, UK, and Australia, but is available more widely through international shipping.

Pros

 • Social features (follows, likes, styling) if you enjoy the community aspect.
 • Great for styled looks rather than random items on a hanger.
 • Good place for vintage one-offs that are harder to find on mainstream platforms.

Cons

 • Prices are often higher than other second-hand platforms – you’re paying for curation and aesthetic.
 • International shipping can get expensive fast.
 • Still quite focused on specific fashion subcultures, less ideal if you just want “normal coat, size M, please”.

Availability

 • Countries: Big in UK, US, Australie with international availability across 150+ countries via international shipping options.
 • Platforms: iOS, Android, web.

Best for

If your Pinterest board is your personality and you like your second-hand very curated and don’t mind paying extra for it, Depop is your playground.

3. Vestiaire Collective – Best for pre-loved luxury

What it does

Vestiaire Collective is a global platform for second-hand luxury and premium fashion – designer bags, high-end coats, premium denim and more. It offers authentication on higher-priced items and operates around the world.

Pros

 • Huge selection of designer and premium brands.
 • Authentication & quality checks on eligible items, reducing fake/designer risk.
 • Good filtering for brand, size, condition, and price.

Cons

 • Prices are still luxury-adjacent – it’s cheaper than new, but not “cheap”.
 • Shipping + duties can complicate cross-border buys.
 • Focused on fashion, not multi-category.

Availability

 • Countries: global, with strong presence in Europe, North America and Asia.
 • Platforms: iOS, Android, web.

Best for

People who want designer pieces with receipts and authentication, luxury and premium brands at a lower price point than new, with some protection built in.

Inside faircado

If you don’t feel like downloading yet another app just for luxury, you can also discover Vestiaire Collective offers through faircado, alongside more affordable marketplaces. Especially handy if you’re mixing luxury bags with more affordable pre-loved finds in one search.

4. Sellpy – H&M’s second-hand engine

What it does

Sellpy is H&M Group’s second-hand platform: a consignment-style marketplace where you can buy and sell pre-owned fashion (plus some home & lifestyle). It started in Sweden and now ships to 20+ European countries. Instead of classic peer-to-peer selling, you send your stuff in, and Sellpy handles photos, listings and shipping.

Pros

 • Hands-off selling: great if you hate taking photos, writing listings and answering “is this still available?” 27 times.
 • Strong in everday fashion brands, kids’ clothes and basics.
 • Backed by H&M Group, and feels more like a big online shop.

Cons

 • Fees and payouts are lower than DIY selling on Kleinanzeigen – you’re paying for convenience.
 • Less “thrill of the hunt” than classic peer-to-peer apps; it feels more like a big online store.
 • Search is decent, but it’s still text-based only, and their product titles are mostly not detailed enough to find the perfect piece.

Availability

 • Countries: available in 20+ European markets (big focus on the Nordics, DACH and wider EU).
 • Platforms: iOS, Android, web.

Best for

People who want an easy selling experience and don’t want to run a mini business every time they declutter.

Inside faircado

Here’s the fun part: Sellpy is also available through faircado.

That means:

 • you can discover Sellpy inventory side-by-side with other marketplaces in one search
 • and because Sellpy doesn’t have image search, using faircado’s image search is actually the easiest way to take an inspo pic, and find similar pieces across Sellpy and other platforms.

So if you’re a Sellpy girlie, the power move is: use Sellpy through faircado.

5. refurbed – Hidden gem for refurbished tech

What it does

Refurbed is a multi-country marketplace for professionally refurbished tech: phones, laptops, tablets, home appliances, and more. Products are up to 40% cheaper than new, with warranties and a strong circular-economy angle.

Pros

 • Huge range of 45k+ refurbished products, not just phones.
 • Up to 40% cheaper than buying new, with at least 12 months warranty on devices.
 • Operates like a proper marketplace, so you can compare offers from multiple refurbishers in one place.

Cons

 • Purely tech-focused
 • Slightly less mainstream name recognition than Back Market, so some people just don’t know it exists yet.
 • As with all refurb marketplaces, you still need to read condition grades carefully.

Availability

 • Countries: 12 markets including Austria, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Portugal.
 • Platforms: iOS, Android, web.

Best for

If you’re in Europe and want to save serious money on tech while still getting warranty and a proper checkout, refurbed is a very solid (and still underrated) pick.

6. Shpock – Europe’s “shop in your pocket” flea-market app

What it does

Shpock (“shop in your pocket”) is an Austrian mobile-first marketplace for second-hand everything: fashion, electronics, home, cars – very “online flea market”, but prettier than most classifieds.

Pros

 • Strong local deals in core markets
 • Very mobile-first UX; it was designed as an app from day one.
 • Feels like a more playful, less dusty version of classic marketplaces.

Cons

 • Quality of listings can be hit or miss – it’s still a flea market after all.
 • Experience outside core countries can be patchy until the user base grows.
 • Like all local marketplaces, you need basic scam/common-sense filters on.

Availability

 • Countries: Europe-wide, with strongest presence in the UK, Germany and Austria.
 • Platforms: iOS, Android, web.

Best for

People who like Kleinanzeigen energy, but want a slightly more polished, app-first experience – especially in the UK, DE and AT.

7. Swappie – Refurbished iPhones across Europe

What it does

Swappie is a Finland-based platform that buys, refurbishes and resells iPhones (and iPads) with 12–36 month warranties.

Pros

 • Super focused: only iPhones / iPads, refurbished in their own facilities.
 • Pan-European logistics, with a hub in Germany and operations centre in Tallinn.
 • Great if you want “like new” Apple gear without Apple prices.

Cons

 • If you don’t want Apple devices, this is not your app – clearly.
 • Prices can be closer to new than peer-to-peer, because of warranty and in-house refurbishment.
 • Less of a “browse everything” shopping experience, more of a “I need a specific phone” tool.

Availability

 • Countries: over 15 European markets, with strongest presence in Finland, Sweden, Italy and Germany.
 • Platforms: iOS, Android, web.

Best for

Anyone who’s team iPhone but broke or simply not willing to pay 1.3k every other year.

So… which shopping app is actually best in 2026?

Sure, you can hunt across eBay, Sellpy, Back Market and others manually – or you can shop smarter and let faircado check them for you all at once.

Here’s the honest answer:

 • If you only want to download one app and you’re in Europe → start with faircado.
 • If you enjoy the whole second-hand hunting experience, you’ll probably also use Depop, or Kleinanzeigen depending on your country.
 • If you’re into tech or luxury, you’ll touch Back Market and Vestiaire Collective at some point, too.

The difference:

 • All the other apps show you just their marketplace.
 • faircado sits on top of several of them (including Back Market, Sellpy, ebay and Vestiaire Collective), and lets you search multiple marketplaces in one go, with image search and single checkout.

So for European users in 2026, the smartest move is:

download faircado first,

then treat the other apps as bonus levels – not the starting point.

Quick FAQ

What is the best second-hand shopping app in Europe in 2026?

If you want to save money and shop more second-hand, faircado is the best all-round option for European users, because it combines offers from multiple marketplaces in one app instead of locking you into just one platform.

Is faircado better than Depop?

They do different jobs. Depop shows you what’s listed only on their own platform. faircado checks multiple marketplaces (including big partners like Back Market, Sellpy, ebay and Vestiaire Collective) and lets you search them all at once, with single checkout and search-by-image. If you care about saving time and finding the best second-hand option, faircado is the better starting point.

Black Friday is here. And yes, it’s giving chaos. And late-stage capitalism. From the 36429 sponsored post to influencers pushing ten hauls a day – consumption season is louder than ever. But we’re not here to tell you not to shop (okay, maybe a little). We’re just saying: maybe do it on your own terms. Intentionally. Sustainably. And if you do it with faircado all of the above AND with free shipping.

The History of Black Friday (Because, of course it’s American)Frau mit zwei vollen Einkaufstaschen

Black Friday started in the US – and like any American tradition, it’s kind of unhinged. Originally, it referred to chaotic crowds in Philly in the 1950s after Thanksgiving. Gridlock, crowd surges, shoplifting, and general retail-induced madness. Police hated it. Retailers saw an opportunity. And boom — “Black” Friday, as in profits going into the black. Give it some time, and there came the malls. The midnight openings. The queues around the blocks and fistfights over TVs.

Fast forward to now, and you have capitalism’s favourite holiday, which turned from a one-day event into a month-long panic spiral designed to gaslight you into buying things no one will ever need.

Who benefits? Mainly benefits mega corps like Amazon, which underpay workers while selling you things faster than your morals can keep up. Meanwhile, Bezos is probably buying a planet or something stupid like that.

Free Shipping? Say Less.

Black Friday deals come and go (and most aren’t even real). But free shipping on everything you thrift in the faircado app? That’s what we’re talking about. And it’s not just for Black Friday – this deal’s here to stay. So, no pressure to panic buy, just guilt-free thrifting.

So funktioniert’s:

There’s no gold star for skipping Black Friday. But keeping your wishlist uncluttered and your budget intact? Kinda iconic.

Summer, Sun… Cringy Tourists? https://faircado.com/mag/cringy-tourists/ Tue, 26 Aug 2025 10:30:00 +0000 https://faircado.com/?p=12122 We've all seen them before - tourists treating their vacation destination like a lawless place, misbehaving themselves and disrespecting the locals. Cringe. 😬
So here's your ultimate guide on how to go abroad without being a complete menace. Enjoy!

The post Summer, Sun… Cringy Tourists? appeared first on faircado.

]]>
Being a cringe tourist in 2025? Not okay.

No matter if “Bali Girl Era”, “European Summer” or “Main Character Energy in Lisbon” – traveling is a mood.

But what if your mood is overtaking a whole city?

Tourism 🫱🏼‍🫲🏻 Gentrificationyellow parasols lined up at the beach

Imagine: You wake up in Italy, drink your coffee on the balcony of your Airbnb, post a story “Living like a local” – but not a single local is left in your house. Just other tourists doing the same. Meta, right?

Tourism brings in $$, obviously. But often mainly for investors with six Airbnbs and a crypto podcast.

Hot take: When your destination is only hipster cafés, concept stores & Airbnbs you’re visiting a lifestyle museum.

Cities for everyone (except locals?)

Airbnb sounds great until you realise, that whole districts in Lisbon and other cities remain vacant. Why?

Because flats get turned into vacation homes.

Because rents rises by up to 70% in just a few years.

Because there are no more daycare centres, schools or supermarkets left for locals. It’s just not worth it for 3-day tourists.

yellow parasols with turquoise deck chairs on a beach

Beaches aren’t made for masses 🏖

Mallorca is reducing its deck chairs by 20% on the beaches of Palma.

You might think “Who cares? As long as Ballermann remains open”.

Plot twist: It’s because sea levels are rising. 🌊

Sounds like a logistical problem. But it’s a symptom of something bigger: climate change doesn’t spare holiday destinations. Beaches are shrinking, while planes continue to land every 10 minutes.

Tourism isn’t independent from climate – it’s part of it. So much so, that the global tourism sector accounts for 8% of all CO₂ emissions.

How to go abroad, without being a menace ☀

Do you know these people that say “I love traveling and exploring new cultures sooooo much” after eating an Acai-Bowl in the same co-working café every single day?

No shade, but… Actually, yeah a little shade.

Traveling like a local doesn’t just mean not staying in all-inclusive resorts. It means asking yourself: How do I move around? Where does my money go? Am I part of a bigger problem?

Eat like you mean it 🍝

Put your money where your mouth is, they say, right? So we say, eat where you can’t spot a Tripadvisor badge. The more locals inside the restaurant, the better. Local farmers’ markets, street food, bakeries – you name it!

Locals know best where to spend $$, trust ’em!

Don’t sleep on it 🛌

Small bed and breakfasts > Insta-rooftop Airbnbs

If you stay at small hotels and homestays, book directly over their website – platforms often take up to 30% commission.

Inside of a tourist boat

Your adventure is someone’s life🗿

You don’t have to be a polyglot, but a handful of words are doable. Talk to locals, ask them for directions, thank them for their help, find out about life in their country.

Bargaining is okay depending on the culture, but it’s not a power-move. What may be a bargain for you, could be their weekly wage.

Respect the locals, not just their sights.

Tourist etiquette in a nutshell

Tourism isn’t a hall pass to do whatever you want.

Here’s a mini crash course for anyone who doesn’t want to end up in a tourist fail compilation:

🔊 No speakers on the beach. No one wants to listen to TikTok playlists. Least of all the wildlife.

🍻 Drink less, shout less. You’re not 15 anymore (I assume).

🗑 We’re all for exploring – but don’t you dare trash nature!

🥽 Don’t buy plastic junk for a 3-minute holiday memory.

👙 Swim wear ≠ Outfit for the city centre.

🌽 Local art, farmers’ markets, second-hand? Always supreme.

🛍 No travel hauls & holiday wardrobes (that’s so brit-crew 2013)

⛓️‍💥 Don’t shop at chains

🛥 Cruises 🚫🚫🚫

Be a guest – not a problem.

Woman floating in pool on vacation

If you’ve read this far: thank you. You’re probably someone who wants more than just pretty scenery. Someone who knows the difference between ‘looking’ and ‘experiencing’. You can be part of the solution. By taking a stand and thoughtful actions.

Stay awesome,

Lea and your friends from Faircado 🩵

Jeff, It’s A No From Us💍 https://faircado.com/mag/jeff-no/ Thu, 24 Jul 2025 10:06:53 +0000 https://faircado.com/?p=12111 Jeff Bezos spent millions on his wedding that broke the internet. And while a group of ultra rich travelled to Venice for a week-long party, we're out here sweating in our second-hand bridesmaid dresses. Welcome to late-stage capitalism: wedding edition.

The post Jeff, It’s A No From Us💍 appeared first on faircado.

]]>
Jeff Bezos threw the most expensive wedding since the fall of the Roman Empire – and guess what? While Jeff dropped $$$ and has a yacht the size of Belgium, I’m melting away in my Berlin office, trying to thrift a cute bridesmaid dress.

Let’s get one thing straight: you can recycle & shop second-hand till the end of time – but one billionaire’s wedding will cancel out your entire climate karma. Billionaires aren’t just rich. They’re climate liabilities dressed in linen.

wedding couple from behind, zoomed in on the dress and interlinked armsJeff’s Wedding Nightmare: Love Ain’t Excusing That 💔

Jeff Bezos’ wedding apparently cost $~25M. While this is more than most people ever get to see in several lifetimes, this was less than 0.01% of his net worth. Just so we’re clear on this. He could throw this exact wedding for every single day for the next 26 years and still be a billionaire. Hold on a sec, while I recover from this fact.

[author trying to recover]

Who’s really paying for this?

So, while Bezos rented an island in Venice and flew in the Kardashians for his weekend-long celebration, his own company – you know, Amazon – continues to squeeze every last drop of productivity out of workers who literally have to pee in bottles because they can’t take bathroom breaks. His wealth didn’t just appear out of thin air – it came from somewhere. From someone’s labor.

How to Marry Sustainably 👰🏻‍♂️

🚫 No destination weddings (unless it’s your cousin’s backyard)
💍 Vintage rings > blood diamonds
🕊 Local food > flown-in foie gras
💐 Potted plants > bouquets (also make for great gifts)
📸 Disposable cameras > rented drone crew
♻ Plan for food waste disposal & recycling
🚎 Carpooling & shuttle services > parking lot clutter
🥦 Veggie menus that not even your grannie will complain about
🪑 Rented deko > junk you’ll only use once
👗 Thrifted dresses > €10k couture

👰🏻‍♂️ check out some second-hand wedding dresses >> 👰🏼‍♀️

Billionaires Are A Natural Disaster 💥

This obviously isn’t just about one wedding (we’re not THAT petty). It’s about what happens when individual humans accumulate wealth that rivals the GDP of entire countries. They’re not just rich people with more money. They’re a systemic problem. When someone can casually spend the equivalent of a small country’s healthcare budget on a party, it shows how broken our system has become.

a rubber boat in the middle of the desert

Mega Yacht, Mega Yikes 🛥

One ultra-rich European on their yacht emits as much CO₂ in a single year as the average European does in 585 years. And these are regular yachts, not even Jeff Bezos yacht-monster. Not just does this boat have its own Wikipedia entry. This yacht has its own yacht. We’ll repeat that:
A yacht… that has a yacht.

Bonus: in case you own a yacht, here’s a yacht CO2 calculator 😉

Overconsumption As A Personality Trait 🛍

Okay, given it’s Jeff Bezos – the industry daddy of e-commerce – this doesn’t really shock us.

But billionaires don’t shop. They hoard wealth.
Think: new wardrobe every season, cars that match outfits, houses redecorated out of boredom, and private jet trips inspired by TikToks. Their existence is the boss level of overconsumption.

Mansion Mania 🏰

Multiple mega-mansions, mostly empty.
Singles living in spaces that could house entire villages.
Climate change aside – how did we get here?

Space Tourism Vanity Projects 🚀

We’ll just leave it at that.

Commuting by Plane ✈

The average ultra-rich European takes 140 flights a year.
That’s more CO₂ than an average person emits in over 112 years.

Still Don’t Believe Us?

Climate-change caused impacts linked to EU’s richest 1% emissions:
– have shrunk the global economy by $179 billion since 1990
– the crop losses attributed to their emissions could have fed 900.000 people / year (1990-2023)
– their emissions are projected to cause ~80.000 heat-related deaths (2020-2120)

wedding couple standing under a rain of flower pattels

Would You Marry A Billionaire?

☐ Marriage? In this economy?

☐ Maybe, if they thrift & compost

☐ Yes, but only to seize their assets

☐ Ew, Jeff?? Absolutely not

So, while I’m still deciding whether to marry a billionaire just to funnel their fortune into the social welfare system and become the modern-day Robyn Hood… one thing’s clear: wealth comes with responsibility.

Right now, the richest are outsourcing that to the rest of us. Guess someone was right when they said “Eat the rich”…

Warmest regards from the depths of my last nerve,

Storage, But Make It Hot Girl!

Turns out throwing everything on “the chair” isn’t a storage system. If you want your wardrobe to live its best life, start by folding knits (heavy garments on hangers = saggy sadness). Keep everything in a cool, dry place – humidity is the enemy unless you see a moth. Then they are. And when the seasons change, so should your closet: store off-season faves in breathable bags with cedar blocks or lavender sachets.

The Ultimate Guide to Treating Your Natural Fibres

You wouldn’t treat silk like denim (unless you’re a fashion criminal). Here’s your cheat sheet to becoming That Girl™ who actually reads the care label.

Woman dressed in fancy fabrics looking like 18th century royalty

Silk – Hello, Drama!

Cold wash only, wool detergent, and gentle cycle. No dryers allowed — fresh air only. Silk doesn’t like being squished, folded or shoved in your wardrobe like it’s a peasant. She needs room. She needs room to breathe. She needs space. She is, quite frankly, an Aquarius man in fabric form.

Cotton – Your Basic Bestie

Loves a gentle wash, hates being boiled alive. Will shrink in protest if you get wild with the heat. Treat her with respect.

Person climbing into washing machine

Denim – Built for Tough Love

If you’ve got raw denim (you fancy), avoid washing it often – its already made to mould to your body. Always turn denim inside out before washing to avoid friction burns and dye bleed. Wash it with other denim/dark clothes only. Dryer? Don’t even. Shrinkage is real. If it’s not dirty, pop it in the freezer or air it out to get rid of any smells.

Down Feathers

Yes, that puffy coat or bougie bedding? Handle with care. Wash only when absolutely necessary. Down clumps when wet, so only wash items with less than 400g filling. Wash with a tennis ball (no joke, it fluffs it up — thank you, mum).

Bedlinens drying in the sun

Linen – The Cranky One

Steam it or embrace the chaos. Lay flat to dry (no hangers please, we’re not monsters). Linen’s antibacterial, breathable, dirt-repellent, and basically the do-it-all of fabrics. Wash on delicate or spin at 600rpm. No fabric softener – linen softens naturally like your heart when seeing a puppy.

Wool & Cashmere

High maintenance but worth it. Use the wool cycle (max. 800 spins!), and always use wool detergent to keep things soft and non-felted. You think hand cleaning might be gentle, but if you don’t know how to do it right you might harm your fabric more than the washing machine. Turn inside out, don’t overload the drum (wool gets heavy when wet), and NEVER wring out or hang – lay flat on a towel like it’s sunbathing and store folded. Bonus: it’s naturally antibacterial, basically self-cleaning sweaters. Store with lavender or cedar to avoid the Mothageddon™

Synthetics – From Lab to Laundry 🔬

Woman's legs tumbling from a washing machine

Satin

Ok, so Satin’s technically not a fibre, but a special way of weaving different materials together. But hey, it’s shiny. But satin’s not all glam — it’s high key fragile. Whether it’s cotton or polyester-based, treat it like it’s borrowed. Low temp, low spin, always air dry, and use wool detergent to avoid pilling. Satin is for candlelit dinners and slow dances, not careless spin cycles.

Viscose – The Indecisive One

Part natural, part synthetic. Soft, silky, but loses its shape like your motivation on a Monday. Wash max 40°C with wool detergent. If it has warped, soak in medium-temp water + gentle shampoo to “fluff up” (yes that’s a word) the fibres and gently reshape. No dryers, they’ll betray you.

Nylon/ Polyester – Easy Care, Eco-Nightmare

Wash less often & cold to stop shedding microplastics. Skip the ironing unless you’re into fabric melt-downs (literally 🫠). Not breathable, so if it starts to stink… yeah, that’s why.

* There’s also Elasthan, but you’d have to try pretty hard to ruin this one. Wash at 40°C and just move on with your life.

How to Survive Moths

Natural fibres are great and eco, but they’re also a yummy snack for moth babies. Here’s how to fight back.

🥶 Freeze ’em out: Stick your wool pieces in the freezer for a few days to kill any eggs if you noticed first signs of the enemy.

🧹 Vacuum like your crush is visiting: Regular cleaning keeps larvae away.

🪻 Sachet away: Lavender, cedar, or even dried rosemary = moth repellent AND makes your clothes smell like a meadow picnic.

Congrats – you’ve officially unlocked peak adulthood. Doing laundry correctly is a rite of passage, right up there with filing your taxes and keeping a plant alive for more than two weeks

Sustainability vs. ADHD – Why Climate Activism Needs Neurodivergent People https://faircado.com/mag/sustainability-vs-adhd/ Fri, 02 May 2025 11:02:21 +0000 https://faircado.com/?p=11992 Does this sound familiar: You care about the planet. You recycle (sometimes). You’ve googled “how to compost in an apartment” at least four times, and still forgot to bring your reusable bags to the grocery store the next day. (No judgment if you do. I’m neurotypical and I’m that person, too.)

If you, too, have a brain that’s bouncing between 57 tabs (real and metaphorical), this one’s for you. Because honestly? Saving the planet can feel like a full-time job—and executive dysfunction didn’t get the memo.

The Problem: It’s Giving Doom.

Woman in fancy dress laying exhausted and overwhelmed on a surface. Her head is a disco ball

Let’s get neurological for a second. ADHD brains are literally wired differently, but when the world is asking for long-term, collective action things get tricky.

The climate crisis is the crisis of our time. But when your brain is wired for short-term reward and the world is asking for long-term, collective action… things get tricky.

You want to help, but:

– Big changes feel overwhelming (if I can’t do it perfect, why start?)

– Small wins feel invisible (no one’s clapping because you got the veggie burger)

– Decision fatigue is REAL (paper vs. plastic vs. compostable vs. meltdown)

– Long-term benefits can feel abstract (like how can I see a lower carbon footprint??)

And suddenly… you’re researching the migratory patterns of monarch butterflies at 3 AM instead of figuring out how to reduce your carbon footprint. Classic.

A Little Mantra for Yourself

🌱 “Today, I did what I could with the executive function I had available.” 🌱

The ADHD Tax

Aka paying more because of forgetfulness or disorganization & hits especially hard with food waste

👀 Out of sight is literally out of mind for ADHD brains. Store leftovers and produce in transparent containers at eye level.

🍽 Instead of ambitious meal plans, prepare individual ingredients when you have the executive function, then freeze them for future use.

Herbs are your best friends. They’ll happily live on your window sill, judging your lifestyle choices while providing garnish for your sad weeknight pasta. All they need is a little sunlight, water draining pots and a reminder in your calendar to water them.

Greens for Your BalconyBalcony with lots of plants

Got a balcony? Look at you, practically being a farmer! Tomatoes and peppers thrive in containers and do well with the warmer microclimate of a city balcony. Salad greens and herbs are the golden retrievers of the plant world – enthusiastic, productive, and forgiving of your occasional neglect.

Indoor Plant Maintenance

You think the seasons don’t make a difference to a plant that lives indoors 24/7? WROOOONG. Spring is the perfect time for plant maintenance and your houseplants are no exception.

 • Propagate new plant cuttlings from existing plants
 • Plant in any of your existing cuttlings
 • Remove all yellow/ brown leaves left from the Winter months
 • Repot plants that have outgrown their containers
 • Start fertilizing again in regular rhythms
 • Increase watering gradually as the days get longer, your plants grow and the temperatures increase

Top Tier Gardening Tips

Enthusiasm is great, but maybe don’t try to grow 17 different vegetables in your first season. If it’s your first time, pick a few selective projects and hone your inner cottagecore-self until next year you are the pro you already think you are.

1. Plant Your Herbs at Different Stages

Hardy herbs like mint, thyme, rosemary, and sage can already go in the ground in early spring and are nearly impossible to kill (believe us, we’ve tried). Hold off on tender herbs like basil until after the Ice Saints or cover them up overnight. The Ice Saints is a farmer’s weather proverb, describing the few cold days occurring in mid-May. This is usually the time of the last possible frost; after that, temperatures should be more stable, and your remaining, finer herbs can be planted outside as well.

Pro Tip: Give your mint its own pot, otherwise, it will go rampant.

2. The First Veggies of the Season

Get these vegetables in the ground in March/ April for an early harvest. These veggies do well with cooler temperatures, shorter days, and grow rather quickly. While these plants actually prefer cooler spring temperatures and will likely bolt during summer heat, they are also the perfect autumn plants.

🥕 Carrots

🍈 Kohlrabi & Radishes

🥬 Salad greens, lettuce & spinach

🧅 Onions and scallions

Basket with loads of different colourful vegetables in it

3. Prepare Your Garden for Summer

While these crops aren’t ready for Spring harvest, that doesn’t mean you can’t start preparing for summer already. Start these warm-season crops indoors now to get a jump on the growing season:

🎃 Zucchini & summer squash
🍆 Eggplant
🍅 Tomatoes (start 6-8 weeks before the last frost date)
🌽 Sweet corn
🌶 Paprika & chilis
🥒 Cucumbers
🥦 Broccoli

4. Finger-Test Your Watering Schedule

Most new gardeners either drown their plants or subject them to desert conditions. The finger test never fails – stick your finger about an inch into the soil. If it’s dry, water. If not, leave those plants alone! They’re fine without your helicopter plant-parenting.

5. Start With Easy Plants to Upkeep Woman watering her young plants

Most people are super motivated when they start off with their gardening endeavors. What they forget to consider is that a garden needs constant maintenance (unless you plan to kill your plants). Pick 3-5 things you actually eat regularly. Some of the most rewarding plants are:

 • Mint: Nearly impossible to kill, very forgiving and great for your summer lemonade. Make sure to keep it in a separate pot as this plant quickly goes rampant and will overgrow the other plants.
 • Rosemary: Native to the Mediterranean, it’s already used to dry conditions. As for most herbs, using them is beneficial for the plant itself, as they regrow even bushier. Cut back your rosemary in Autumn and store it inside, and it has a high chance of returning next year.
 • Salad Greens: It’s one of the first things to grow in Spring, and it’s very rewarding. Why? Because it has short growth cycles, you can harvest individual leaves as it grows it can be planted from early Spring up until late Autumn.
 • Tomatoes: They seem a bit more intimidating, but they are actually great for city balconies. They can deal with high temperatures and direct sunlight. Plus, it feels very rewarding to see little tomatoes grow red under your watch. Like nature’s blushing.

Wildflowers for the Bee-Lovers 🐝

Wildflowers are the superheroes no one talks about. Bees and other insects love them as they provide them with food throughout the year. 🌷

Help your neighbourhood bees feel as homely as possible and plant your own flower meadow. Look specifically for bee meadow seed mixes designed to attract pollinators. You can also just plant flowers with varying bloom times to support pollinators throughout the season.

Wildflower meadow

Gardening is part science, part art, and part shrugging your shoulders while muttering, “we’ll see what happens.” Some things will die spectacularly. Others will thrive despite your best efforts to accidentally kill them. That’s just how it goes.
So grab some dirt and get growing.

Until next thyme (sorry, not sorry),

Why You Shouldn’t Rely on Just One Second-Hand Platform https://faircado.com/mag/one-platform/ Mon, 10 Mar 2025 10:19:48 +0000 https://faircado.com/?p=11792 Second-hand shopping is booming, but many people only search on one platform - an expensive mistake. Prices, availability and security vary greatly. faircado solves this problem by comparing offers from large second-hand marketplaces. This way you can find cheaper, better and safer deals - without endless tab-hopping!

The post Why You Shouldn’t Rely on Just One Second-Hand Platform appeared first on faircado.

]]>
Introduction

Second-hand shopping is on the rise, offering consumers an affordable and sustainable way to buy everything from clothes to electronics. However, many shoppers make the mistake of relying on a single marketplace, assuming it has the best deals.

This approach can be limiting, leading to missed opportunities, overpriced purchases, and unnecessary hassle. That’s where faircado comes in—a smart app and browser extension that aggregates listings from Europe’s biggest second-hand marketplaces, ensuring you always find the best deal without opening countless tabs.

Let’s explore why depending on just one platform isn’t the smartest way to shop second-hand and how faircado makes the process seamless.

The Rise of Second-Hand Shopping

The second-hand market is booming. The global re-commerce market is valued at $ 197 billion in 2023, projected to grow by $100 billion by 2026 and reach $350 billion by 2028.

Reselling clothes has become so common, that fashion brands like Patagonia, Gucci, Zara and Decathlon have their own resale programs in place. Research on Gen-Z shopping habits already shows that Gen-Z is ahead of the trend. More than half of Gen-Z shoppers are considering gifting second-hand pieces for important festivities. And four in ten project, that by 2027 three three-quarters of their purchases will be second-hand and estimate that a third of their belongings already are.

This boom is largely driven by:

 • Sustainability awareness – People are looking for eco-friendly alternatives to fast fashion and mass production.
 • Cost-conscious shopping – Buying pre-owned saves money compared to purchasing new items.
 • Convenience – Online marketplaces make it easier than ever to find high-quality second-hand goods.
 • Individuality – Mass consumption provides us all with the same trends. Second-hand is a much sought-after solution to find unique pieces.

However, while second-hand shopping has become more accessible, it still has its challenges—especially when you limit yourself to just one platform.

The Problem with Using Just One Second-Hand Platform

Many people assume that their favourite second-hand marketplace is the best place to find deals. However, this mindset can create several problems, such as:

✔ Limited selection – Different platforms have different sellers, meaning you could miss out on the perfect item elsewhere.
✔ Inconsistent pricing – The same product can be priced significantly differently on various sites.
✔ Varying seller policies – Some platforms offer buyer protection, while others don’t.
✔ Shipping cost variations – An item that looks cheaper on one platform might cost more due to higher shipping fees.

These issues make it clear that one platform is never enough—and that’s why a tool like faircado is essential for finding the best deals.

Limited Selection: What You’re Missing Out Ongreen metal shopping cart on white floor tiles

Each second-hand platform has a unique inventory based on its sellers. When you limit yourself to just one, you could miss out on:

 • Rare and vintage finds – Items in high demand may be available on another site.
 • Better-condition products – An item listed as “fair” condition on one marketplace might be available in “excellent” condition elsewhere.
 • More options in size, colour, or model – A limited inventory can force you to settle for something that isn’t exactly what you want.

By using faircado, you get access to multiple platforms at once, ensuring you never miss out on the best possible option.

Price Discrepancies: Overpaying Without Knowing

The price of a second-hand item can fluctuate significantly across platforms. For example:

🔹 A used smartphone might be listed for €250 on one marketplace but €190 on another.
🔹 A vintage designer handbag could cost €80 more on one site simply due to different seller pricing.

Without price comparison, you risk overpaying for the exact same item. Instead of manually checking different platforms, faircado automatically finds and compares prices for you, ensuring you get the best deal every time.

Trust & Safety Concerns: Varying Seller Policies

Different second-hand platforms have different policies when it comes to:

✔ Seller verification – Some marketplaces require ID verification, while others allow anyone to sell.
✔ Buyer protection – Some offer refunds and dispute resolution, while others don’t.
✔ Return policies – Some platforms allow returns, but others make all sales final.

Hidden Costs & Shipping Differences

You might think you’ve found the best deal—until you reach checkout and see the shipping costs.

Common pricing traps:

 • A product appears cheaper on one site but has higher shipping fees, making it more expensive overall.
 • Some marketplaces charge additional service fees, which can significantly increase the total cost.
 • A seller on one platform might offer free shipping, while another does not.

The Power of Comparing Offers

Comparison shopping is standard practice for new products. We do it for new products, flights, and hotels—so why wouldn’t we do it for second-hand shopping? When it comes to second-hand shopping, many people forget to apply the same logic, assuming a second-hand offer is already the cheapest solution. But why settle for the first listing you see when there could be a better deal just a few clicks away?

Benefits of comparing second-hand listings:

✔ Find the lowest price – Never overpay for an item.

✔ Choose the best condition – Compare product descriptions easily.

✔ Save on shipping – Pick the seller with the lowest total cost.

✔ Ensure a secure transaction – Buy from platforms with strong protections.

Comparing different platforms has honestly never been easier. With tools like faircado, this process becomes effortless. Instead of manually opening multiple tabs and jumping between sites, faircado‘s browser extension and app aggregate all listings in one place, giving you a clear and instant comparison. With just one search, you can find the best price, the best condition, and the biggest offer available. All in one place to ensure that you always shop second-hand the smart way.

Key Takeaways

 • Comparison shopping saves you money – Prices vary widely across platforms, and you risk overpaying for the exact same item.
 • Not all second-hand listings are equal – The same item might be in better condition elsewhere, often for a lower price.
 • Shipping and hidden fees add up – Checking multiple platforms helps you avoid unexpected costs.
 • Buyer protection matters – Different marketplaces have different return policies and fraud protections.
 • Tools simplify the process – Instead of manually checking multiple sites, faircado aggregates listings and provides a side-by-side comparison instantly.

By using smart shopping tools like faircado, you make second-hand shopping cheaper, easier, and safer—all in one seamless experience. 🚀

International Women’s Day: How Women Are Saving the World https://faircado.com/mag/international-womens-day/ Wed, 05 Mar 2025 14:37:49 +0000 https://faircado.com/?p=11771 Women play a key role in climate protection! 🌱 Countries with more women in politics implement stricter environmental laws, while women-led companies operate more sustainably. In addition, women make 70-80% of consumer decisions - a huge potential for green change. But climate risks often hit women harder. The solution? More female perspectives in decision-making processes!

The post International Women’s Day: How Women Are Saving the World appeared first on faircado.

]]>
Let’s face facts: solving the climate crisis requires everyone’s involvement, and sidelining 50% of the population is straight-up self-sabotage.

Not to be dramatic, but the data speaks for itself. While the world debates whether climate change is a women’s issue, we’re asking: is women’s empowerment actually THE climate solution?

The Invisible Carbon Footprint of Gender Inequality

The numbers don’t lie: countries with higher female parliamentary representation are more likely to ratify environmental treaties and implement stricter climate policies. Meanwhile, companies with gender-diverse boards show significantly better environmental reporting and climate governance.

It’s not just correlation—it’s competence. Research shows women tend to bring longer-term thinking and collaborative approaches to environmental challenges. While some executives are still obsessing over quarterly profits, women-led organisations are more likely to be planning for 2050’s climate realities. Just saying.

Climate Change x Intersectional Feminism.

Intersectional feminism is a real fancy word for looking at how different forms of inequality often operate together and exacerbate each other. In this case looking at how climate risks are more prevalent for Indigenous, migrant, or Afro-descendent girls and women, older women, LGBTQAI+ people, women and girls with disabilities, and those living in rural, remote, or conflict-prone areas.

What We’re Loving Right Now

How Women Are Saving the Planet

In wealthier societies, women drive 70-80% of all consumer purchasing decisions. That’s not just buying power—that’s world-changing power. Studies show women are more likely to recycle, minimise waste, buy organic food, and save water and energy. Every time you choose a sustainable product, you’re voting for the future you want. And women are casting those votes in overwhelming numbers. Aside from that, recent elections in Germany show that women are also casting these votes in real life, where women were more likely to vote for a party that supports climate policies.

Indigenous Women: The Overlooked Powerhouse of Global Food Security

Across the world, women depend more on natural resources, yet have less access to them. In many regions, women bear (literally) a disproportionate responsibility for securing food, water, and fuel.

But did you know women are responsible for half of the world’s food production? In developing countries, it’s a staggering 80%! Yet despite their crucial role, women farmers face a frustrating reality: less access to production resources.

Ready to be mind-blown? If women had the same access to productive resources as men, farm yields would increase by 20-30%, potentially feeding an additional 100-150 million people. Talk about an untapped solution to world hunger!

Climate Resilience Needs Women

When climate disasters strike, guess who bears the heaviest burden? Women carry 2.5 times more unpaid household and care work than men, and this disparity only grows during crises. Despite being disproportionately impacted, women are largely excluded from shaping disaster resilience policies. The irony? When women are involved in building climate resilience and capacity building, these initiatives are demonstrably more successful. Maybe it’s time we stopped treating half the population as victims and recognised them as the solution drivers they are!

Her work intersects anti-racism, LGBTQAI+ issues, women’s and children’s rights, as well as housing and healthcare issues. “These women don’t change the world because they suffer,” she says. “They change it to create lives filled with more happiness, joy, and opportunities. That wisdom, that legacy, that way of thinking and living is incredibly inspiring.”

Matcha Phorn-In

Lesbian feminist human-rights defender in Thailand

“If you are invisible in everyday life, your needs will not be thought of, let alone addressed, in a crisis situation,”. Often humanitarian programmes tend to be heteronormative and reinforce patriarchal structures even more.

Florence Driciru

Farmer, and mother of 5 lives in Uganda

She already feels climate change today. Yields are poor, rain comes late. Together she and other local farmers participated in programs to learn about how to improve their farming practices. These practices helped her get better yield, and in her community, they plan to cooperate for a grain store, to sell collectively and bargain for better price.

Rawan founded “Blue Stone” an environmentally conscious business that turns recycled glass into eco-friendly stones. She also began a glass-sorting initiative The initiative engages both women and men, helping to drive equal participation in recycling efforts and to increase awareness of women’s roles in non-traditional industries.   Rawan helps to lead community-based dialogues around gender equality and women’s economic empowerment.

This Women’s Day, commit to supporting female environmental leadership in all its forms, from the boardroom to the farm to the voting booth.

Here’s to a future where “women’s empowerment” and “climate solutions” are recognized as two sides of the same sustainable coin!

Sincerely, despite the circumstances
