Fisheries Joint Management Committee https://fjmc.ca A fish and marine mammal co-management board established pursuant to the Inuvialuit Final Agreement. Sat, 27 Apr 2019 17:48:30 +0000 en-CA hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9.4 Imaryuk https://fjmc.ca/imaryuk/ https://fjmc.ca/imaryuk/#respond Wed, 03 Apr 2019 19:44:44 +0000 https://fjmc.ca/?p=1166 Imaryuk Monitors promote and monitor compliance to the restrictions on fishing activity established by the Community Fishing Plan. They also assist with programs to assess and monitor fish stocks and fish habitat in the area. Imaryuk Monitors are easily identifiable by their badge and uniform. Please ask them for information and assistance!

The Community Fishing Plan was developed to ensure that access to remote lakes created by the new all-weather highway between Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk (ITH) does not negatively impact fish stocks and fish habitat along the highway corridor and Imaryuk (Husky Lakes). Restrictions on fishing activity have been developed, along with plans to monitor and manage fish stocks and fish habitat to ensure fishing is sustainable now and for future generations.

Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Highway (ITH) Opening – November 15, 2017 https://fjmc.ca/inuvik-to-tuktoyaktuk-highway-ith-opening-november-15-2017/ https://fjmc.ca/inuvik-to-tuktoyaktuk-highway-ith-opening-november-15-2017/#respond Wed, 15 Nov 2017 16:36:49 +0000 https://fjmc.ca/?p=1128 With the opening of the new highway we would like to let people know that a community fishing plan for the ITH area was developed by the Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk HTCs in early 2017. This fishing plan includes voluntary recommendations for subsistence harvesters, as well as recommendations for sport fishing restrictions. To find out more about the new plan contact FJMC staff or check out the plan and summary brochure on our website: Co-Management –> Fisheries Management –> Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk Highway (ITH).  We expect the ITH to increase the fishing pressure on Husky Lakes and other important waterbodies in the area, so we hope that people respect the management recommendations made by communities so that fisheries can be sustainably harvested by future generations.
