This insightful session examined the future of energy communities with a focus on hybrid storage and interoperability, offering diverse perspectives from our distinguished speakers: Nikolaj Candellari from CyberGrid for the InterSTORE project, Mark Stefan from AIT Austrian Institute of Technology & Vieri Emiliani from Maps Group for Parmenides, and Habib Nasser from RDIUP for FlexCHESS. Alexandre Lucas from INESC TEC led engaging presentations, followed by an interactive panel discussion moderated by Ludwig Karg from B.A.U.M. Consult GmbH.

On October 9, 2024, we held our assembly meeting in beautiful Çanakkale, Turkey hosted by UEDAŞ. This in-person gathering brought together all project partners to share updates and foster collaboration.

  • Work Packages (WPs) Presentations: All partners presented their respective WPs, showcasing their contributions to the project 📊 
  • Pilot Sites Updates: Detailed progresses were provided from the Turkish, Spanish, Italian, and Slovenian Pilot Sites. 
  • Technical Workshops: Focused sessions covered key topics such as optimization, real-time data transmission, interoperability, and asset connection 🔧💡                         

This assembly meeting was not only a platform for sharing progress but also an invaluable opportunity for in-depth discussions on the project’s future direction.

On November 6th  October 2024, FlexCHESS, PARMENIDES and InterSTORE will jointly host their second cluster webinar.   

The online seminar aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of data spaces, focusing on architecture, interoperability, ecosystem development, and standardization. It will cover the importance of ontologies and semantic interoperability, particularly in smart energy systems, and showcase successful implementations. 

Tim Farham from TOSHIBA will present FlexCHESS project. His presentation will focus on Asset Administration Shell (AAS) and Battery passport data models for cross-domain digital twin interoperability.  

The PARMENIDES project will be presented by Olivier Genest, the CEO of Trialog and his presentation will focus on ontologies and semantic interoperability.  

Ferdinando Bosco from Engineering Group will the InterSTORE project, and his presentation aims to show how the data space approach can be an important benefit for the digitalization of energy systems.  

Following the presentations, Dr. Mark Stefan, Research Engineer and Thematic Coordinator for Power System Digitalization at AIT, will moderate the panel discussion and closing remarks.

On 16 October 2024, FlexCHESS, PARMENIDES and InterSTORE will jointly host a cluster webinar with the participation of the Int:net project. This event will focus on the critical role of interoperability in advancing renewable energy communities and integrating distributed resources, such as hybrid storage systems. 

Throughout the webinar, experts from participating projects will explore how seamless communication and integration across various energy technologies and systems can enhance efficiency, reliability, and sustainability in renewable energy initiatives. 

Nikolaj Candellari, Project Manager and Data Scientist at CyberGrid, will present the InterSTORE project. His presentation will address the challenges of connecting community assets using the new IEEE2030.5 protocol, developing optimal strategies for these assets, and outlining the process for implementing these strategies. 

The PARMENIDES project will be presented by Dr. Mark Stefan, Research Engineer and Thematic Coordinator for Power System Digitalisation at AIT Austrian Institute of Technology GmbH, along with Vieri Emiliani, Head of Innovation at Maps Group. Their presentation will provide an overview of the PARMENIDES project and the development of energy management systems. 

Dr. Habib Nasser, an expert in Mechatronics and Smart Systems, will present the FLEXCHESS project. His presentation will explore how the interoperability of hybrid storage systems and flexible loads is crucial for enhancing the profitability and sustainability of energy communities. Nasser will discuss how this integrated approach optimizes resources, supports local energy trading, and contributes to broader sustainability goals by reducing carbon emissions and improving grid resilience. 

Following the presentations, Ludwig Karg, co-owner and member of the management at B.A.U.M. Consult GmbH, from Int:net project, will moderate a panel discussion on interoperability, energy communities, and hybrid energy storage systems.

We are happy to announce that the Living Lab sessions for all five of our pilot cases have been successfully completed! These sessions were held online and saw participation from a diverse group of stakeholders. 

Each pilot case had the opportunity to present their innovative solutions, followed by an engaging Q&A session. The feedback received during these discussions is invaluable, as it aligns perfectly with the core purpose of the Living Lab: to refine and enhance these solutions for greater impact.
