And there is no better example of all of the mentioned qualities than Lara Croft – she’s smart, strong, curious, fearless, and always ready to face the unknown. That’s exactly why she became a symbol of courage and independence for players around the world.

As a way to celebrate the International Women’s Day, we asked some of the women working on Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis what Lara Croft means to them.

For me, Lara Croft is one of my earliest gaming memories. I remember watching my brothers play the original Tomb Raider when I was a child and I was completely fascinated. I loved how confident and fearless she was. At one point I even started tying my hair like hers, a ponytail with two hair ties, because back then in early 3D graphics you couldn’t really tell it was a braid. I would walk around the neighborhood proudly pretending I was Lara Croft. Looking back, I think she represented something powerful to me: independence, courage, and a sense of adventure. She showed me that a woman could be the hero of the story. Working on Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, especially knowing we are revisiting a game that came out 30 years ago, feels incredibly meaningful. It’s an honor to contribute to such an iconic franchise, one that shaped so many childhood memories, including mine. Being part of bringing Lara’s legacy to a new generation feels both nostalgic and empowering.

Lara Croft was my childhood role model. She inspired me to love history, mythology, and learning, but more importantly, she taught me resilience. She also inspired me to stay active, take care of myself, and pursue my goals with discipline and determination. Whenever I faced bullying, failure, or self-doubt, watching her rise after every fall reminded me to lift my head and keep moving forward. She taught me that strength is not about never failing, but about never giving up.

The beginning of April is a special time here at Flying Wild Hogs. Spring is making its warm presence felt, April Fools played a prank here and there, and most importantly, April is the time when the whole studio celebrates its birthday, and the HOG GALA takes place. 

What is the HOG GALA you ask? Well, to the new and uninitiated here, the HOG GALA is a moment of celebration, where all of our studios gather around, reminisce on the year that has passed, have competitions, win prizes, eat lots of cake, and give out the prestigious and coveted HOGscars. These 3kg pure bronze statutes of honour are handed out to those team members who have been with the Flying Wild Hogs for 10 years. They are a tribute to the hard work that they do. 

People, let’s raise our glasses to this year’s HOGscars recipients. They are Kamil Trociński, Bartosz Chodorowski, Robert Majewski, Piotr Rusnarczyk “Dido”, Michał Kuk and Mateusz Romach “Mati”. Thank you so much for your time, dedication, sweat, and love. Without you, our games would be nowhere near as good as they are. Thank you for putting in all the work that you did.

The HOGscars recipients aren’t the only winners on the night. Oh no! We also had the great Flying Wild Hog quiz, in which the main prizes were a PlayStation 5, an Xbox Series X|S, and a couple of Nintendo Switches. And we did.

We built worlds filled with colour, chaos, and katanas. We turned absurd ideas into real projects, made mistakes and learned from them, shipped games that players still talk about—and maybe even yelled at once or twice (hey, it’s part of the process). We grew as people, as creatives, and as a studio.

But above all, we became a team. A collective of people who care deeply about what we create, and how we create it. So today, as we celebrate sixteen years of Flying Wild Hog, we’re not just looking back – we’re honoring everyone who’s been part of the journey.

To our Hogs, past and present: thank you for the fire you’ve brought into this place. Every line of code, every bold idea, every late night, every thought – you’ve shaped this studio more than any logo or title ever could.

That’s right, it’s been a wild and exhilarating ride filled with epic battles, heart-pounding adventures, and more coffee and Polish doughnuts than we can count. As we reflect on the past 15 years, we can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude to everyone who helped us along the way. In total, we’ve crafted 10 unforgettable gaming experiences, each one a labor of love and a reflection of the passion and talent of our team and the partners who helped bring them to life. So, here it goes. Our thank yous and our toast. 

We want to give a huge shoutout to all the talented individuals who have poured their hearts and souls into creating the games that have become synonymous with our studio. To our dedicated team members, past and present, who have worked tirelessly to bring our visions to life – thank you. Each game we’ve produced is a testament to your hard work, creativity, and unwavering dedication. Without you, Flying Hog would not be the studio that it is today. So kudos to each one of you. You are the heroes of our story. And we’ll celebrate with you all this evening. 

We also want to give a bow to all our business partners, past and present. Making games is not an easy thing. Actually, it’s pretty damn hard if we’re being honest. Guess what? Shadow Warrior, that epic slice-and-dice extravaganza, just hit the big one-oh! That’s right, folks – it’s been a decade of ninja mayhem, raging cyber-demons, and enough one-liners to make even yours truly blush… almost.

From those early days of chaos to today’s mind-blowing graphics and boss battles that redefine the word ‘epic,’ it’s been one hell of a ride. We have crucial information to share about Space Punks.

Flying Wild Hog together with Jagex are very sorry to inform you about the decision to cease support for Space Punks. Update 9: The Pretty One, was the final one. This decision has been made after careful consideration, taking into account market conditions and our goals. Regrettably, it was deemed necessary based on these factors.

Our goal was always to create games that gamers will enjoy for years and will remain in their hearts forever. We’re incredibly proud of the cosmos we’ve managed to build and can’t express enough how much we appreciate all those who have been with us on this journey. Whether it’s from the very moment it arrived on early access or its Open Beta launch. We wouldn’t have gotten this far if it weren’t for your feedback. Thank you for all of your enthusiasm and support in making Space Punks such an adventure.

We’d also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Space Punks Team for their immense effort. It is with profound appreciation that we recognize that none of the milestones we’ve reached would have been attainable without the countless hours of hard work, creativity, and expertise that you have poured into this project. The energy and enthusiasm that you brought to the table have been nothing short of inspiring.

Regarding what players can expect from this point onward, live services for Space Punks will go offline on the 6th of November, 2023. The in-game store will cease service and the game will be removed from the Epic storefront at the moment of this announcement, meaning the 5th of September, 2023.

All players that have made purchases are eligible for a refund.

What?

Following consultation between Jagex, Plaion, and Flying Wild Hog, we have made the difficult decision to end support for Space Punks.


When?

Space Punks will be removed from sale on Tuesday, 5th September, and additional purchases will no longer be available. The game will remain playable until Monday 6th, November, at which point, the servers will be turned off and the game will no longer be playable.

 

Why?

This decision has not been taken lightly, but when considering market conditions and player engagement, this was a necessary decision.

 

I’ve purchased a Founder’s Pack. Will I receive a refund?

Players who have purchased items will get a refund from the Epic Store from 5th October onwards. The refund process may take a few weeks to complete. Players should contact the Epic Store if they do not receive their refund by 5th November.

 

Will the Support Centre remain live?

Our Support Centre will be accessible until 6th November. We’ll then have a light Knowledge Base for players needing support in receiving a refund.

A contact route will also remain open for those who may require further support.

 

What is the reason for shutting down Space Punks?

The decision to sunset Space Punks arose from challenges in consistently meeting our quality standards. We believe this step is necessary to ensure that any future endeavors align more closely with the level of excellence we strive for in our products. Your ongoing support has been instrumental in our journey, and we truly appreciate your understanding during this time of transition.

 

How would you describe your cooperation with the publisher, Jagex?

Our collaboration with Jagex has been a valuable experience. We remain grateful for their support.

 

Does Flying Wild Hog plan on cooperating with Jagex in the future?

As we navigate through this phase, we are open to exploring potential opportunities for future partnerships with Jagex. While concrete plans have yet to be solidified, the possibility of reuniting our efforts on a new project remains an exciting prospect.

 

What will happen to the Space Punks’ IP?

At this juncture, we’re unable to divulge specific details regarding the future of the Space Punks’ IP.

 

Is this the end of the franchise?

While this chapter of Space Punks is coming to a close, it’s not necessarily the end of the franchise.

 

What will happen to my in-game purchases?

Recognizing the money you’ve spent in the game, we’re offering players the opportunity to seek refunds for their in-game purchases through the Epic Store. You can find comprehensive details on the refund process under the following link:

 

When will the shop close down?

In preparation for the sunsetting process, Space Punks will be removed from the store on September 5th, 2023.

Not one, not two, but THREE mind-blowing get-togethers

happened simultaneously in Warsaw, Cracow, and Rzeszow. 

 

Now, before we dive into the juicy details of these gatherings, let’s take a moment to give a big shoutout to all the awesome HOGs who made these events possible. You guys rocked it like nobody’s business!

Now, let’s talk about the parties themselves. From the moment the music started, it was clear that we were in for a wild ride. Our studio members, true heroes in their own right, unleashed their hidden dance moves and set the dance floors ablaze. Think the Rentier Institute mixed with some Lo-Wang flair.

In Warsaw, the energy was electrifying. The venue was transformed into a vibrant hub of laughter, music, and pure awesomeness. Studio members from different departments bonded over their shared love for gaming, and, of course, some fancy footwork.

Meanwhile, in Cracow, the atmosphere was infectious.  Our talented artists and designers showcased their creativity not only on the canvas but also on the dancefloor.

But wait, there’s more! In Rzeszow, the party animals came out in full force. Our brilliant developers and programmers proved that they could code and bowl simultaneously – BIG LEBOWSKI – style!

Throughout all three parties, the laughter was contagious, the camaraderie was off the charts, and the memories made will go down in studio history. We came together and had an absolute blast!

So, here’s a massive thank you to each and every participant who attended these incredible get-togethers. Your enthusiasm and awesome vibes made these events unforgettable. You are the true stars of our studio, and we couldn’t be more grateful to have such incredible folks in our midst.

Now, we don’t know about you, but we’re already excited for the next round of our studio shenanigans. Who knows what we’ll come up with next?  The possibilities are endless!
