Introduction

The Acre Security Council (ASC) is a committee responsible for managing risks, overseeing protocol upgrades, and executing emergency actions within the Acre ecosystem.
Its key responsibilities include reviewing and approving vault strategies built on Acre before they proceed to a full DAO vote.
The ASC established an initial meeting on July 22 at 10:00am EDT (14:00 UTC) to introduce our inaugural council members, introduce our first governance vote, discuss and review items included in this vote, and provide instructions on how and where to cast votes.

The initial package included all materials for ASC review ahead of a key governance vote related to DAO setup and Phase 1 of Dispatcher v2 & Meta Vault deployment, and reviewed in full prior to our scheduled Council vote.

Why

The ASC has been formed as an interim step in the decentralization of the Acre protocol. At such time as the Acre DAO is established, the ASC shall be ratified by the DAO and its functions shall be subsumed by DAO governance.

Following the initial package review period, 7/18/2025 - 7/22/2025, the initial ASC vote will be launched at https://snapshot.box.
This governance vote will go live on Tuesday 7/22/2025 and will close 5 days later on 7/27/2025.

Overview

The Acre DAO is preparing to launch soon. In anticipation, members of the community are forming the Acre Security Council (ASC). This council will function as a 6-of-9 Safe multisig, with signers drawn from the Acre ecosystem.

Purpose and Responsibilities

The ASC’s mandate is to manage risks, oversee protocol upgrades, and act in emergencies. The main areas of focus include:

• Voting on preliminary DAO formation proposals
• Making decisions regarding the core Acre smart contracts
• Signing contract upgrades provided to the DAO by the development team
• Interacting with the Acre Foundation, as needed

Time Commitment and Terms

Each founding ASC member are exepected to contribute approximately 1–2 hours per week, primarily to review and sign multisig transactions and to vote on proposals. The initial terms for founding members are set at 4, 8, or 12 months. After these terms conclude, an election will determine the next ASC cohort, which will serve in staggered annual terms. Monthly remuneration for ASC members, likely in tokens, will be decided by a vote of the Security Council at a later stage.

All signers are encouraged to create a fresh Ethereum account using a hardware wallet for additional security. After creating this new address, members are asked to comment with the new address on this forum thread below, ensuring clarity for the multisig setup.
