I purchased 25 new Raspberr Pi4 B+ 8Gb. and after 30 minutes of viewing a web page (a list of speeches for an event like this: LiveC - Display ), the screen goes blank for a second, then loops and returns to the initial Anthias screen with logo and IP address. This defect occurs in both horizontal and vertical layouts. It seems like the anomaly that occurs when I view a video in vertical mode, in which the screen first goes blank and then displays the Anthias initial screen with IP, as I specified in the POST that is still open. For now, I’ve solved it by placing two identical assets that change after 20 minutes. But it’s not normal.

Trouble installing Anthias and rotating screen (tried multiple methods) Anthias Hi there, I’m trying to get Anthias installed on my Raspberry Pi 3B+ and get the screen rotated 90 degrees clockwise. I’ve tried multiple methods of doing both of these tasks but have only been able to do one or the other.

When I install Anthias using the Raspberry Pi Imager, Anthias loads just fine, but I am unable to open the CLI using CTRL+ALT+F1. CTRL+ALT+F2 takes me to a black screen, but I don’t know if that’s helpful or not. I have also put a blank “ssh” file (with no extension) in the root of the Micro SD card, but when I attempt to SSH into the Pi using Putty, I get the error that the connection has been refused.

Alternatively, I have also tried the method of installing Raspberry Pi OS Lite, then running the Anthias install script. Using this method, I am able to install RPI OS Lite, and edit the system file that rotates the screen, but when I run the Anthias install script, it fails at the step where it’s trying to “Add Docker apt key”. Following the advice of a forum post, I made sure to update the Pi using something like “sudo apt-get update” then run the Anthias install script again, but it fails at the same step: “Add Docker apt key”.

Any advice on what I might be doing wrong, or what else I should try? Thanks in advance!

Poor and pixelated 1920x1080 images Anthias Hi @nicomiguelino,
I just loaded a pair of Raspberry Pi 3 b+ with the latest version of Anthias, and when I load 1920x1080 images into the assets, they look fine on the PC, but on the Raspberry they look poor quality and pixelated. The problem is visible on both another 24" HDMI monitor and a 49" HDMI smart TV. I remembered that in boot\firmware\config.txt you could force the HDMI to a resolution of 1920x1080 px. Is there anything I can do?

Best regards.

Active assets issue Anthias Hello,

I am having a problem with active assets. I have several activated, but only one is working properly. I then connected via SSH to the Raspberry Pi where Anthias is deployed to check the screenly_assets folder, and I can see all my active assets.

Before :

So I deleted all my assets except the one that works. I checked the folders again and I still have several assets.

After :

Is this normal?

Poor Performance is a RPI 3 B+ not enough hardware? Uncategorized I’ve been banging my head against the wall getting Anthias working on a 3B+. It works, but only for a brief time before OOM’ing and locking up or other oddball stuff that seems like rampant performance problems.

Am I wasting my time trying to get this to work on a 3B+? Is this all lack of resources and should really be using a 4 or 5?

RPI 3B+ 1GB RAM to HDMI to 4k 60hz display. I am trying to display a Google Slides presentation with a presentation link.

Things I’ve found:

  • Google Slides transition animations burn down the Anthias instance very quickly and never display without lag. Removing them helped, but only extended the inevitable crash.

  • I forced the RPI to 1080p to the display via the cmdline.txt file. This helped the most, still a slow experience with load numbers in the 12-15 range.

  • Creating a second asset of the same slideshow, to have the webpage refresh (still Slides presentation) for updated content has crushed performance again and the slideshow never updates.

  • I’ve recreated the same 10 slide presentation in a new file and it made no difference.

  • The 10 slide presentation is images and text with a few native shapes added, no GIFs, no Videos, all the images are normal sized, etc.

  • I’ve tried several SD Cards to rule out IO problems, factory branded Raspbery Pi SD Cards and Sandisk Edge A1 card, neither made a difference.

  • I’ve tried multiple PI 3B+s with POE power and Micro USB power to rule out throttling or mischievous hardware. (all of these are brand new)

  • HTOP reveals that CPU usage is not high (single digit mostly) except for a blip here and there from the webserver. Memory usage hovers 700-750mb and eventually runs out (788mb avail total)

  • Adding a youtube video gets stuck at forever “processing”

  • I am on master@54e9121

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Installation on Dell Wyse 3040 Uncategorized Hi, I’m trying to install Anthias on Dell Wyse 3040 which has a limited 7.7gb EMMC flash storage. I run into issues during installation during installation where Anthias begins to pull resources. I tried to search the forums and internet about the storage requirements, but most of the resources discuss platforms like RaspberryPi or Balena.

I have already attempted two installs, one with Debian 12.12 (minimal install without desktop environment) and another being DietPi (for x86_64 bookworm) and followed this guide. Dietpi, after installation takes about 2gb. This is the disk situation:

root@DietPi:~# df -h

Customize WebView Background Color Before Page Load Uncategorized Hi everyone,

I’m trying to adjust the background of the WebView. At the moment, before a webpage finishes loading, the screen briefly shows a bright white background. Since my website uses a dark theme, the sudden white flash is quite noticeable — and I’d really like to avoid that.

Is there a way to change the default background color of the WebView, or could a setting for a custom defaultBackgroundColor be added in a future update?

Any tips or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Green screen artifacts and pixelation on TV output using Raspberry Pi with Anthias Uncategorized Hi,

We’re using Anthias on a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.5, and we’re getting recurring display issues only during video playback. The Anthias splash screen and boot sequence look perfectly fine (crisp and color-accurate), but as soon as the player starts showing MP4 videos, the screen becomes partially green and pixelated, as shown in the attached images.

System Info:

  • Device Model: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Rev 1.5

  • Anthias Version: master@5d44ac8

  • Free Space: 40G

  • Memory: Total: 3614 MB / Used: 769 MB / Free: 122 MB / Available: 2745 MB

  • Connection: HDMI (no adapters) + Edision HD Modulator (Hdmi to DVB-T)

  • Instaled in the SD card with Balena - not with rasp OS

Issue description:

  • The splash screen and interface look perfect on boot.

  • The issue starts only when MP4 videos begin playing (no streams, all content stored locally on the Raspberry Pi).

  • Video output turns green with digital block artifacts.

Additional observation:
Since the splash screen displays perfectly, it seems the HDMI signal is fine — suggesting the issue lies in GPU video decoding, codec settings, or hardware acceleration.

Thanks in advance for your help!

FYI. Bookworm OS to Trixie OS changes Uncategorized Just an FYI. There was a Debian version change when going from Bookworm(Debian 12) to Trixie(Debian 13) OS’s.

The Ansible Playbook that Anthias uses for the automated script to install everything

bash <(curl -sL ``https://install-anthias.srly.io``)

has got some things that are no longer available in Debian 13, as they are now deprecated. (things like APT-keys changed to GPG keys for instance)

Solution: Use Bookworm OS for now until there is an updated script for Trixie/Debian 13.

Сhanging the display output on a laptop Anthias Hi. I installed Anthias on an old laptop. It has additional video ports. I connect it to the TV via HDMI.
The image is duplicated. But the laptop’s resolution is 1366x768, while the TV is full HD.
Therefore, the image on the TV is very small and in the corner of the screen. Setting GRUB_GFXMODE=1920x1080 partially helped, but the video doesn’t display on the TV. only on laptop screen. However, the default Screenly Weather Widget asset displays correctly on the TV.
Is there a way to change the default display for Anthias?

White screen after latest update Anthias I had anthias running great on a Pi5 connected to a 4K TV for about a month.

I have run several updates and it has continued running fine after a reboot, until today. I ran an update this morning and then after a reboot the screen simply displays a white screen after a reboot. I tried running the update script again, tried a manual ‘sudo apt upgrade’ and have tried multiple reboots but am still getting a white screen.

I can SSH into the pi and everything that I can see looks ok, the web dashboard seems to work fine and I can upload assets etc.

Not sure what to try now to get it working or if i should just re-install… I wish I had made an image of the SD card on a working version but i guess I can flash it and start from scratch!
