All I can think of is, "Is that how overly sensitive we have to be now?"

Well, I have to be. It's a PG-rated comic whose primary audience is my kids... Also, Veronica is somewhat too young for the romance that she's stumbling into. The women leads almost always are in these ancient paranormal guy/high school girl romance stories...but I'm subtly addressing that, along with most of the other tropes of that genre.

While it doesn't happen often, the most common reason my editor rejects panels is when I'm accidentally oversexualizing her, because I'm mostly thinking about dynamic framing and posing or multi-layered dialog or whatever.

If your comic's spiciness level isn't "newspaper comic" and you're not sexualizing minors, then go right ahead and do your own thing! These are personal/self-imposed limits.
