CodeBase for BC Hacks Competition

BC Hacks is a coding competition across british columbia for computer science students

The Theme was Entrepreneurship

Encouraging entrepreneurship in tech. Can your idea be turned into a business? Does a team have what it takes to create the next tech giant? The goal of the $2000 is to support innovative entrepreneurs attending BC Hacks. We want to recognize student groups for their unique idea and help build the next big startup.

And Diversity

Addressing the lack of representation of minorities in the industry and celebrating the diversity in tech. Does your project address this issue and come up with a way to bridge this gap?

For our project we won second place out of hundreds of teams across British Columiba and $2,000 in prize money

Project

All members of my team were working as residence advisors at the time. Our project was to develop a web-based application for college housing to allocate and pair students for best placment. We drew on our experience both with diversity in housing and the business applications of the idea to create a finished project.

Major Takeaways

Presentation is almost everything. There where many very good teams with better code than ours. The biggest difference was how they decided to present it. I realized from this that product with out presentation is nothing, presentation without product is a scam, but product and presention together is power.
