AppDecoder helps you make sense of the app sprawl on your Mac.
It scans your installed macOS applications, pulls the useful bits from bundle metadata, and cross-checks what it finds using App Store and website heuristics—then turns all of that into clean, human-readable summaries. If you want even more context, you can optionally enable LLM assistance to generate richer descriptions and “why do I have this?” reminders.
And because only you know the real story behind some installs, AppDecoder lets you add your own notes to each application’s description—so future-you (or your team) can instantly remember what it’s for.
Disclaimer: AppDecoder relies on extensive heuristics to identify and describe applications. Those heuristics are usually helpful, but they’re not perfect—so occasional misclassifications or inaccurate summaries can happen.
Whether you’re a power user cleaning house or an administrator mapping what’s actually on a machine, AppDecoder gives you a fast, trustworthy snapshot of your software landscape—so you can keep what matters and uninstall the rest.

Method 1: Use the Finder
- Right-click (or Control-click) the app
- Select "Open" from the context menu
- Click "Open" in the security dialog
- Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security
- Look for the message about the blocked app and click "Allow Anyway"
Method 2: Use the Terminal
Run this command in Terminal:
