If Flutter became Compose, MainAxisAlignment would be a sealed class and it would have spacedBy(double) just like Compose does, but took 6 years to agree on spacing, I'm super happy it.

I think you could allow spacing to be negative? On Figma it works well.

Since the use case of this parameter is to provide space between items in Column/Row, not the opposite, I'm keeping the assertion check to make sure the provided spacing is always non-negative along with a test. Negative spacing would overlap the children and In such use case using Stack widget make sense.

Feel free to file a new issue with some use cases if you think negative spacing would be beneficial.

The issue is that Stack requires the size beforehand, where Row would calculate it automatically for you, so it allows way easier stacking than Stack.

There is no negative side in allowing negative spacing, if someone doesn't want they just don't use. Nothing will blow up. For text it is particularly useful, since you don't know the text size beforehand in a Stack.

Would be good to have some tests that check the behaviour for overconstrained situations (like when spacing is such that the children won't fit, with various kinds of alignments). Sorry if you have that already; I checked all the tests and didn't see it, but it's sometimes hard to notice what's being tested.

You may wish to get @goderbauer or @Piinks to check this out as well, as this is such a widely-used core widget. Mistakes here could have really wide-spread consequences. (I don't see google testing in the list of checks, dunno if that's expected or not, but running this against google's tests would be a good idea.)

(Mostly likely we didn't run tests in this PR after this was merged)

I'll look at the packages/flutter_tools/test/integration.shard/overall_experience_test.dart and try reland this.
