At MICDS, physical education teachers have long relied on large spreadsheets and forms to track athletic progress — from strength assessments to reflection responses. While this method did work, it was extremely inefficient and cumbersome, making it difficult for teachers to track progress trends or for students to visualize their own growth.
We were inspired by the idea of making fitness measurable, visible, and meaningful. Our goal was to build a unified platform where teachers, students, and administrators could engage with fitness data in real-time — combining athletic development, academic accountability, and digital learning tools into one seamless ecosystem.
This project started because I saw firsthand how much time teachers spent managing data manually. As a leader of my school's club, I contacted the school's fitness department and set out on this project. Personally, I am utilizing this hackathon as a motivating factor to actually develop large portions of this application that the rest of the team will be building off of for the whole year. I wanted to create something that truly helped them — a digital system that could streamline the process while motivating students to take ownership of their fitness journey.
The MICDS Fitness Dashboard is an integrated fitness education management system that connects admins, teachers, and students through data-driven performance tracking and reflection.
Admins can manage teachers, classes, and students; assign relationships; view analytics; monitor participation rates across the entire program; and use many other tools.
Teachers can create forms (reflections, assessments), track statistics, review student submissions, and provide feedback — all within an organized interface powered by powerful ML tools; overall, this enables them to provide higher quality physical education to students.
Students can see their fitness data (jump height, sprint time, lift weight, etc.), fill reflection forms, view progress charts, and celebrate achievements. This is a polished, encouraging, and motivating hub to bolster their fitness education journey.
Lastly, there are many niceties such as notifications and a search profile feature, amongst many others.
The system was built using a full-stack architecture centered on Flask (Python) for the backend and HTML, JavaScript, and TailwindCSS for the frontend.

We built a unified platform that bridges teachers, students, and administrators, creating a connected environment rather than a set of isolated dashboards. This allowed for seamless data flow between roles and provided everyone with a clear view of progress and engagement.
We also designed a normalized, future-ready database schema that supports all core interactions — from student performance tracking to teacher feedback and administrative analytics. This structure ensures long-term scalability and data integrity as the system grows.
A key feature of the platform is the single student profile view, which brings together statistics, reflection forms, and achievements into one cohesive interface. Teachers can quickly access a student’s complete progress record, while students can easily visualize their growth over time.
Additionally, we developed an analytics system that highlights consistency, engagement, and improvement, turning raw data into meaningful insights. These insights empower educators to identify trends and personalize their approach to fitness education.
Ultimately, this project merges the worlds of fitness education and academic-style learning in a modern, motivating way. By integrating performance tracking, reflection, and analytics, we’ve created a system that supports both physical and personal development in an engaging, educational context.
Through this project, I learned how to design a multi-role application that fits seamlessly into real-world educational workflows. Building for admins, teachers, and students required understanding how each role interacts with data differently — from administrative oversight to classroom engagement and personal reflection. This experience taught me how to translate complex institutional needs into a unified, intuitive digital system.
I also came to appreciate the importance of strong data relationships and clean schema design in large-scale systems. A well-structured database became the foundation that allowed analytics, user management, and form submissions to work together without conflict. Ensuring relational integrity across multiple user types helped the platform remain flexible, scalable, and easy to extend as new features were added.
Working on analytics revealed how raw fitness data can be transformed into meaningful educational insights. Instead of simply storing numbers, I learned to analyze trends, visualize progress, and generate feedback that motivates students and informs teachers. This process deepened my understanding of how data science and machine learning can serve education in practical, human-centered ways.
On the frontend side, I developed a stronger sense of how thoughtful UX and UI design can keep users engaged and informed. From optimizing dashboard layouts to refining color contrast and component structure, I learned that good design isn’t just about aesthetics — it’s about clarity, usability, and motivation. Every interaction, from form submission to analytics display, needed to feel natural and empowering.
Finally, throughout this project, I significantly expanded both my machine learning and frontend development skills. On the ML side, I explored how PyTorch models and AI wrappers could generate personalized insights, helping bridge data analysis with student feedback. On the frontend, I mastered more advanced JavaScript logic, dynamic data handling, and modern design frameworks like TailwindCSS — translating technical systems into interfaces that feel alive and responsive.
One of the key upcoming features is the Coach Portal, which will allow coaches to record detailed notes, review performance insights, and track athlete development over time. This addition will bring a more personalized and team-oriented layer to the system, extending its use beyond classroom fitness tracking.
Through AI Insights, the system will begin offering personalized recommendations, feedback, and predictive analytics. These insights can help teachers tailor instruction and allow students to see targeted areas for improvement.
A Community Feed will be added to celebrate achievements, highlight milestones, and build a sense of connection and motivation among students, teachers, and coaches.
Finally, LMS Integration will connect the platform directly with school grading and record systems, streamlining data flow and allowing fitness progress to contribute meaningfully to overall student evaluation.
Together, these next steps will transform the MICDS Fitness Dashboard from a powerful management tool into a fully integrated digital fitness ecosystem — one that connects learning, health, and performance across the entire school community.
This project started with a simple goal: to help teachers save time and give students a clearer picture of their fitness progress. What began as an idea to replace spreadsheets has evolved into a full-scale educational technology initiative that will have a tangible impact on our school community.
The MICDS Fitness Dashboard is not just a concept — it is a system that will actively be built and prepared for real implementation. Once fully deployed, it will directly benefit over 1000 students at MICDS, providing every one of them with a personalized, data-driven view of their athletic growth and wellness journey. Teachers and administrators will gain powerful tools for analysis, feedback, and engagement, transforming how physical education is taught and experienced.
Beyond our school, this project has the potential to grow into a platform that can be shared with other schools, helping educators everywhere modernize fitness education and streamline their workflows. By combining thoughtful design, strong data systems, and emerging AI capabilities, this project proves how technology can make education more meaningful, efficient, and human-centered.
This is only the beginning — what started as a hackathon project will soon become a living part of our community, empowering students, teachers, and coaches to make fitness education smarter, more reflective, and more impactful than ever before.
