Hi everyone *waves* I'm a newbie here, so forgive me if I'm breaking any rules.

I have a question on how to create the effect of the background image in the example below. I'm not sure how to explain it, but it looks like certain layers were used here, like Screen and maybe even a photo filter. I'd love to know how to create something similar. Does anyone know?

For reference, I use Photoshop CS3. Thanks in advance!

This tutorial was originally done for irishlullaby on LJ. She wanted to know how the text was done for this icon:

(credit to secretsmile90 on LJ)

Starting from these two basic screencaps. Ten & Donna

Program: GIMP (I used 2.6)
Level: Beginner to Intermediate

I'm going to show you how I made this icon:

Using GIMP 2.6 and the GAP plug-in.

Level: Intermediate (you'll need to know your way around GIMP, or failing that, possess a lot of patience/drive.)

This is a very lengthy tutorial, because (no two ways about it) making animated icons is extremely time consuming. I love them, though, so I spend the time trying to make the best ones I can. And I'm always searching for ways to improve.

(NOTE: You will need to download and install GAP and the bug fixes before using this tutorial. An alternative way of making animated icons is to take frame-by-frame screen caps. If you find installing and/or using GAP too confusing, you might want to try this tutorial, and pick back up at Step 4.)

OKAY, Here we go! )

I'm working on a larger tutorial on how to make a collage in photoshop when it occurred to me that a quick tutorial on image size might be beneficial so here goes ...

This is done with Photoshop CS3 - I'm not too familiar with other programs though I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to convert this to them. (At least I hope not!)

If you have any questions let me know! I hope this helps!

Doing a search on youtube just now revealed there are some really good video tutorials that can help newbies.

I was especially impressed with the Tutcast.com's channel.

Photoshop 101 videos. If you look down on the sidebar on this page you'll see links to other tutorials. ETA: This is a longer intro PS 101 video - worth a watch even though it is long.

To give you an idea here is the very first one - an introduction on Photoshop Workspaces. If you're a beginning Photoshop user I think this video tutorial could help you quite a bit in learning the workspaces. *Points to above EtA - that link has a longer more in depth video that goes over various tools as well.*

Hi All!

I just had a question asking if posts requesting tutorials were allowed. I'd never considered it before but I don't really see why they wouldn't be allowed. So, if you have any requests for any sort of tutorials go ahead and post them. Hopefully someone here would be able to create a tutorial based on the request or point the requester to one already online somewhere.

Also, I apologize for not posting the promised links and resources yet. I've been meaning to do that and just haven't made much progress but it's still in the works!

Finally - thanks to everyone who has posted tutorials and participated. :)

Cheers!

Based on a conversation with [livejournal.com profile] housem24fan, I decided to make a tutorial to show her a couple things!

I am still a beginner with GIMP, so this is definitely not the voice of experience talking. Most of this I learned by trial and error and flopsweat. ;D I'm hoping this might save one or two of you the same frustrations I had.

TUTORIAL #1: Coloring with Layer Modes in GIMP

Tut #1 )

TUTORIAL #2: Bordering text with layers in GIMP

Tut #2 )

Other GIMP users, I definitely want your opinion on things you would have done differently, and specific steps! It will help both of us. :)

Made a tutorial about this once on livejournal. But since that one is quite old I decided to make a new one.

Hi to all the new members! I apologize for the lack of posting this past week. It's been the week from Hell over here and I just haven't had a chance to get things set up the way I would like.

I have a link spam post planned with links to various graphic resources (brushes, free use art work, symbols, textures, ect, ect) and other tutorial sites but haven't finished it yet. With my busy schedule it most likely won't be until next week sometime but it is in the works. In the meantime I thought I'd ask if anyone has any questions or suggestions of things they would like to see in this community? I'm going to be offline tonight but I will be happy to respond to any and all comments as soon as possible. :)

Oh and one final announcement - say hello to [personal profile] rizny who has kindly agreed to co-mod the community. You may recognize her name from the fabulous tutorials she posted last week and from her awesome graphics.

Here is my Text Tutorial, requested by about a gazillion people and reposted from the original on LJ. We will be going over the different methods of using text in Photoshop and in GIMP, effects you can use to make text look better or more readable, and you can download some of my favorite fonts here. :)

This probably isn't as comprehensive as it could be, but I've been working on it for about three weeks, and if I don't post it now I'll explode. So...apologies for any mistakes - please correct me if you find them - and I hope this helps!

Program(s)+version: Photoshop CS3, GIMP
Involves: Text tools, layer styles
Translatable: Yes, mostly
Steps: This tutorial doesn't show how to get from point A to point B, so there aren't really steps...
Difficulty: Beginning/Intermediate

The original tutorial post is here.

[community profile] graphic_tutorials is now open for business! Post your graphic tutorials here! This is meant to be a learning community as well as a place to share your knowledge with others who enjoy graphic and web design.

Before we get started - the Rules.

The rules are simple:

1.) Use proper Netiquette.

Netiquette includes the following:

a.) Use proper English and try to limit the l33t sp34k. An occasional 'LOL' or something similar is fine. Posting entire posts l1k3 d11z, lulzzzzz is not.

b.) DO NOT TROLL. If anyone is trolling that person will be banned. Constructive critique is one thing - posting 'ZOMG THIS SUCKS - WTF DID YOU POST THIS FOR?' is another. Don't do it. In other words - remember there are actual living and breaking human beings online who will read what you have to say. Treat them with the respect you want to be treated with.

2.) Tag your entries according to the software and the type of tutorial it is. (For example if you're posting a tutorial on how to create some sort cool star field special effect in photoshop you would tag the entry as "PHOTOSHOP, STAR FIELD EFFECT")

3.) Tutorials for web graphics, print graphics, digital photography, web coding, and web applications are allowed.

4.) All tutorials MUST be under a cut tag. Especially if it is image heavy.

5.) Give proper credit to any images you use. Trust me - the photographer/designer/artist will appreciate it.

6.) The mod/s reserve the right to change the rules at any given time.

If you have ANY questions feel free to contact the moderator.

ETA: There appears to be a problem with the tags right now - as soon as I get chance (later tonight or tomorrow) I will investigate and see if I can fix it so members can post tags. I apologize for any inconvenience this creates.
