Starting this autumn, a new service launched in collaboration between SEB and GreenDice will provide every student in grades 7–12 in the Tõrva municipality with a personal computer for their studies. This makes Tõrva the first municipality in Estonia to implement such a comprehensive solution, fostering students’ digital competence and providing them with equal and modern learning opportunities.

Tõrva municipality is the first in Estonia to guarantee personal computers for study purposes to its students starting from the 7th grade. In cooperation with GreenDice, SEB has been contributing to Tõrva’s digital development for several years – the bank’s well-maintained devices are already used by teachers, municipal employees, youth participating in the digital ambassador program, and local residents. From the new academic year, this impact will grow even further, as more than 250 students will have the opportunity to use personal, modern digital tools, complete with additional training and technical support.

“Our greatest expectation is to provide our students with modern digital tools through a comprehensive solution, ensuring that their studies are diverse and not solely dependent on a school’s limited budget or home resources. The planned service effectively addresses the gap many families face – limited access to modern equipment, which often forces students to do their homework on smartphones or tablets (if they have them at all),” said Maarja Kallis, Head of Tõrva Gymnasium and Tõrva School.

SEB joined the platform created by GreenDice in 2023 and has since redirected 1,700 different IT devices, including 320 desktop computers, 585 laptops, and 199 monitors.

“We are pleased that, in cooperation with GreenDice, we can contribute to improving the digital capacity of Estonian schools. Supporting education is an investment in the future, but it is equally important to do so responsibly. By repurposing our high-quality but decommissioned devices, we reduce our environmental impact and support the principles of the circular economy,” said Laura Kostiak, Head of Sustainability at SEB.

The service offered by GreenDice is not limited to providing devices – it also includes upgrading the educational institutions’ cloud server systems, creating secure user profiles for students, and keeping necessary policies up to date. Furthermore, GreenDice provides IT support services, ensuring prompt assistance for any technical issues students may encounter.

Lidl Estonia is handing over 29 business-class laptops that have reached the end of their replacement cycle to its partner GreenDice. The goal is to extend the lifespan of the devices and reduce electronic waste. The reuse of laptops is part of Lidl’s broader environmental strategy, which focuses on the efficient use of resources and the implementation of circular economy principles in daily business operations.

The computers being directed to GreenDice were used by Lidl’s office staff and remain in excellent working condition. Instead of sitting in storage or being sent for disposal, these devices will reach people in Estonia through GreenDice’s community service, where they can continue to be used along with technical support and a warranty.

Liis Kiviloo, Corporate Social Responsibility Consultant at Lidl Estonia, emphasizes that sustainability is a core pillar for Lidl in every field of operation: “We believe that big changes start with smart everyday choices. Sustainability is in our DNA, and for us, saving resources doesn’t just mean large factories, packaging optimization, or logistics – it also includes what we do at our office desks. Partnering with GreenDice is a decision made with heart: we don’t want our employees’ well-maintained tools to become waste. Thanks to this cooperation, we can extend their lifespan while contributing to the growth of digital capability.”

Argo Alaniit, CEO of GreenDice, is pleased that more and more organizations are choosing transparency: “It is important for Lidl Estonia that the company’s activities are in line with sustainable development goals. Directing IT equipment into controlled reuse and ensuring materials reach recycling directly helps reduce the CO2 footprint that would be generated by manufacturing new devices. With GreenDice’s service, Lidl can view the entire lifecycle of its device fleet transparently and measurably.”

The Estonian technology company GreenDice helps reduce the overconsumption of IT equipment by making high-quality business-class devices accessible to everyone. Starting from €6.90 per month, anyone can use reliable devices complete with full maintenance, warranty, and IT support. Transparent lifecycle tracking with community involvement allows companies to accurately report the CO2 footprint of their devices and eventually direct them into material recycling.

The retail company Lidl, part of the Schwarz retail group headquartered in Neckarsulm, is one of the leading companies in the food retail sector in Germany and Europe. Lidl is represented in 32 countries worldwide and operates 12,600 stores and over 230 logistics centers across 31 countries.

Lidl Estonia was founded in 2018, and on March 3, 2022, Lidl opened its store chain in Estonia. Currently, Lidl has 21 stores in 10 cities across the country. In 2026, Lidl Estonia was awarded the internationally recognized Top Employer title for the fourth time. More information: Lidl.ee and LinkedIn.

GreenDice raises €400,000 angel investment to bring personal computers with IT support to every Estonian school student.

GreenDice is launching its first investment round of €0.4 million to introduce a solution to Estonian schools that provides every student from the 8th grade upwards with a personal computer complete with IT and community support for the entire study period. Upon leaving school, the student can, if desired, transfer the service into their own name. The service price starts from €6.90 per month.

Our model is unique and sustainable:

  • We don`t buy cheap technology; instead, we bring high-quality devices to schools. The primary users of these devices are GreenDice’s partner companies that wish to reduce their ecological footprint and strengthen their brand.
  • We create a circular economy solution that connects responsible organizations with Estonian youth.

GreenDice is already working today with well-known partners such as Tele2, SEB, Coop Pank, Nordea, Omniva, Enterprise Estonia, Eesti Loto, Prisma, and many others.

We have tested the solution in several schools and see that we are able to:

  • Organize computer classrooms and IT systems, thereby reducing the school’s existing IT infrastructure costs (Tõrva Gymnasium, Häädemeeste Secondary School, Imavere Basic School, and others).
  • Provide teachers with a personal device along with IT support.
  • Reduce the schools’ cost base, which helps bring a computer and service to every student, and also provides: a platform to raise awareness of digital hygiene, financial literacy, and other useful topics.

In the age of Artificial Intelligence, it is vital that every young person gains access to technology while learning to consciously avoid the risks of smart device addiction. GreenDice is a transparent circular economy pioneer that has already experimented extensively with a small team. The investment gives us the opportunity to take greater responsibility for the Estonian school community, organize our processes, and further build a model that amplifies reuse. Furthermore, we help separate the wheat from the chaff by showing people which companies are genuinely operating sustainably.

Want to contribute to our mission and earn returns?

When GreenDice’s recurring, monthly sales revenue grows to €25,000–€30,000, we may raise capital again.

The cooperation between Garant Private School and GreenDice started with the desire to find a sustainable and cost-effective solution for the school’s IT infrastructure. Now, throughout a partnership that has lasted almost three years, GreenDice has helped the school implement several significant waves of renewal.

Stages and achievements of the cooperation:

  1. Computer classroom renewal: First, the entire computer classroom’s equipment was replaced, using high-quality devices and monitors previously used by Coop Pank and Enterprise Estonia (EIS). This immediately provided a noticeable improvement in the quality of instruction.
  2. Teachers’ work tools: Subsequently, the teachers’ classrooms equipment was updated, supplying them with computers from Coop Pank and monitors from EIS. Modernizing teachers’ work tools is a critical step in ensuring successful digital learning. Devices came from different partners of GreenDice.
  3. Student mobility: The school adopted laptops for students with the help of GreenDice, supporting a flexible and inclusive learning environment.
  4. Update: The latest and most extensive step was the simultaneous upgrade of all devices to computers with Windows 11 support, ensuring the school’s IT system complies with modern standards and security requirements.

Fast and Reliable IT Support

One of the greatest advantages of GreenDice’s service for Garant Private School has been the integrated IT support. As is common with used equipment, technical problems have occurred, but they have always been immediately resolved.

“For us, the greatest value is a stable and sustainable IT solution that supports the school’s daily, seamless instructional work. GreenDice has helped create a cost-effective and environmentally friendly IT system that meets modern standards and allows us to focus on what is most important – teaching .” Yulia Lemberg, Member of the Board of Garant Private School.

Expert Consultation in a Confused Environment

GreenDice’s role extended beyond merely supplying hardware. The company’s consultation regarding the technical parameters of hardware for e-exams proved to be especially valuable. At a time when the communication and requirements provided by the Ministry of Education and Research and Education and Youth Board (Harno) were sometimes confusing and constantly changing, GreenDice helped the school navigate the information. The consultation ensured that the school’s hardware met the strict requirements, thereby avoiding last-minute problems and stress during exam preparation. This proved that GreenDice is more a technological partner for Garant Private School than merely a supplier of equipment.

“The GreenDice team is a reliable and cooperative partner whose solutions are especially well-suited for educational institutions where a balance between quality, environmental friendliness, and cost-effectiveness is important. This is a partner who thinks along with us and always finds a suitable solution.”

GreenDice has forwarded to Garant Private School different devices from Nordea, Coop, Omniva, EIS and SEB.

This year, Nordea joined GreenDice’s transparent technology cycle, contributing to both environmental sustainability and the support of Estonian education.

The first 30 monitors have already found their way to the computer classroom at Tõrva Gymnasium, helping to create a more modern and eye-friendly learning environment for the students.

For Tõrva Gymnasium, the procurement of modern monitors had been postponed for a long time due to budget constraints. Thanks to the cooperation between Nordea and GreenDice, the school finally had the opportunity, and students can now use newer, better tools that are easier on the eyes.

What does GreenDice offer?

GreenDice sustainably manages the lifecycle of IT devices and, through its community platform, offers reliable computers with IT support starting from 6.90 euros per month. This is a unique IT workstation service that is neither a lease nor an instalment plan.

The service always ensures a functional device, complete with:

  • warranty and insurance,
  • support services,
  • risk mitigation (no joining fee, no deductible, and no fixed period),
  • the possibility to return the device or exchange it for a better one at any time.

Computer skills are extremely important today at any age. Whether it is to keep up with world events, communicate with family members, or simply pay taxes – everything takes place via a computer. Unfortunately, IT knowledge or access to technology is still not available to everyone today.

This is precisely why the Viimsi Municipal Government decided to apply for funding to raise the community’s digital competence from the North-Harju Partnership Project “Social Cohesion”. The project application was successful and is being implemented by the Viimsi Welfare Center. GreenDice was involved as a technical partner, offering all project participants proper computers for use, along with support services, if needed. GreenDice is an Estonian company that extends the lifespan of large companies’ business-class computers. For a monthly fee, one can use proper, maintained, and checked business-class computers with a warranty, insurance, and IT support. The tracked equipment circulation until material recycling is a new concept that private individuals can also use.

Within the framework of the project, basic computer usage skills will be taught to up to fifty elderly residents of Viimsi Municipality (in five groups), and they will be encouraged to operate in the online world. Interest in the course has been significant, and the first group started already in October. The next group will start in November, and the subsequent three in the new year. The project is primarily for those who have no previous contact with computers or are timid users. Together, they will go step-by-step through all the necessary stages so that participants can use the computer independently and safely.

According to Ants Altmäe, the computer course instructor, the first meeting with the participants showed that the topic needs to be approached individually. “The level of the people who came to study was different and initially caused a bit of confusion or fear as to whether this was truly suitable for them. But since the groups are small, the course can be completed at a pace that suits them,” he said.

“The goal of the training is to show that the computer does not ‘bite’ but instead makes life simpler and necessary services more accessible. In addition, one will also learn about the internet-related dangers that should be prevented,” Altmäe added.

The Häädemeeste Municipality and GreenDice have signed an agreement that allows the residents and institutions of the municipality to participate in the company’s opportunities on the same terms as the municipal government.

Häädemeeste Mayor Külliki Kiiver and GreenDice CEO Argo Alaniit signed a contract that allows the people of Häädemeeste Municipality — parents, teachers, students, entrepreneurs, and other interested parties — to use GreenDice’s benefits under the same conditions as the municipal government and its subordinate institutions. This means a premium-class device can be obtained for €10.90 per month (including VAT and insurance). This is not an instalment plan. The monthly fee includes the use of a reliable, checked computer, warranty, insurance, and comprehensive IT support. It is important to know that these are higher-end devices, so this opportunity provides access to very good laptops and tablets.

Argo Alaniit: “The length of the use period is not specified, and the conditions remain unchanged regardless of whether the computer is needed for two weeks or several years.” A major added value, the company’s CEO pointed out, is that the computer does not have to be used until its last “breath,” but can be replaced as soon as the need arises.

Häädemeeste Mayor Külliki Kiiver said that as soon as she heard about such an opportunity, she immediately became interested. Külliki Kiiver: “I had an irresistible desire to implement the service in our municipality as well and thereby increase the digital capacity of both the municipal government and the managed institutions. As part of the technology cycle, we can environmentally get to use modern, well-kept computers from larger companies. The first major step in the digital development plan was that the high school students of Häädemeeste High School already received personal laptops at the end of April, which helps them stay competitive in the conditions of digitalizing studies. Young people are talented in technology, and modern devices allow them to further increase their interest in the world of computers, because the IT field definitely has a great future. Häädemeeste High School has also had active IT students in the past, and I believe that more and more of them will now become digital ambassadors. The innovative solution contributes to the digital development of students, strengthens the competitiveness of the entire region, and gives the school significant added value, making the high school part of the school more attractive. In addition to high school students, used professional computers have now also reached the employees of the municipal government, and they will soon reach the managed institutions. After that, it is a pleasure to also equip the members of the representative body with laptops, which will allow our work processes to be significantly modernized. However, I am extremely happy about the solution that every resident of our municipality can use a computer on the same terms as the municipal government.”

According to the head of GreenDice, the biggest gain for Häädemeeste municipality’s subordinate institutions is the reduction of bureaucracy. “Schools and other institutions have the opportunity to get help quickly in case of technical problems, because as part of GreenDice’s service, problematic devices are repaired or replaced. This way, there is no need to carry out additional procurements to update the devices,” Alaniit said.

More than 230 Estonian companies, including Omniva, SEB, Tele2, and several local governments, have already chosen GreenDice to reduce their environmental impact, thereby contributing to the development of Estonian society. Such a solution, where GreenDice offers a service contract to the residents of the municipality on the same terms as the local government, is a growing trend in Estonia, but the first agreement of its kind was signed in Pärnu County. Last year, such cooperation was started with the Tõrva Municipality Government, and according to GreenDice CEO Argo Alaniit, it has worked very well.

Külliki Kiiver: “This is a very important form of cooperation for the Häädemeeste municipality, which supports reuse, the IT capabilities of the municipal government, managed institutions, and local residents, and provides an opportunity to live in the modern age.”

GreenDice believes that schools need more than just IT equipment; they need unified, easy-to-manage systems and consistent digital education and support.

At the beginning of last year, we started a closer collaboration with the Tõrva municipality to enhance the digital capabilities of both the municipal government and its managed institutions, and to support the wider community. As part of this cooperation, we held a series of lectures for senior citizens, trained teachers, and launched the Digital Ambassadors (formerly Junior IT Managers) program.

The first-year goal of our collaboration with Tõrva Gymnasium was to map out exactly how digital tools were being used at the school, identify the main problems, and offer the best solutions. The problems we found were to be expected: the school was using a variety of different devices, many of which were outdated. The school could only update its computer fleet through project grants, not when the need actually arose. In addition, there was a lack of unified systems, which caused confusion among school staff, for example, when printing materials.

The support from the school has been excellent, and the solutions offered by GreenDice have been well received. Tõrva Gymnasium also supports its teachers by providing every new pedagogue, upon request, with a GreenDice computer workstation service, including IT support.

As an innovative solution, a new support system was created for the school community through the Digital Ambassadors program. The goal of the program is to bring together tech-savvy young people and train them systematically so they are able to provide on-site IT support to the school staff. The first group of Digital Ambassadors started last November, with 6 young people participating. GreenDice provided the youth with basic knowledge and built a system for the school where teachers could report technical issues and the students could solve them. During the year, the Digital Ambassadors resolved over 66 service requests. The main issues the young people dealt with were adding printer drivers, reinstalling Windows, adding devices to the domain, and other minor day-to-day problems.

“I believe that the issues that the school’s Digital Ambassadors will face in the future will be significantly more substantial than those they handled in the first year. We also provide continuous support to teachers so they can solve simpler technical issues on their own,” said Argo Alaniit, GreenDice’s CEO and the program’s leader.

The feedback from teachers about the program has been very positive.

“Many teachers have expressed their surprise at how helpful the students have been in solving computer problems,” shared Maarja Kallis, the director of Tõrva Gymnasium. “As a school leader, it has been a joy to see how the confidence of the young people participating in the program has grown, as their new role allowed them to show a completely new side of themselves to the teachers,” she added.

During the GreenDice Digital Ambassadors program, the young people gained real work experience, which helped them better understand the connection between what they learn in school and what is needed in the workplace. For example, they had to respond to requests politely and correctly.

“Before joining the program, I found it difficult to speak in larger groups, and it caused me anxiety. But thanks to the tasks of a Digital Ambassador, I was forced to step out of my comfort zone, and I actually enjoyed the attention and being able to help teachers,” said Kristofer Juht, a program participant.

Listening and self-expression skills were also important, as it is difficult to understand people’s problems and even more challenging to articulate a solution in an understandable way.

The Digital Ambassadors program will continue in the upcoming school year, and new interested participants are welcome.

“I recommend participating in the program to anyone who is genuinely interested in IT and is ready to step out of their comfort zone. A joke or a blunder can always happen, but you have to be ready for that too,” Juht added.

Nearly three years ago, SEB Estonia began collaborating with GreenDice, a startup promoting tech circulation. As a result, the bank’s well-maintained digital devices are now being passed on to new users. This reuse helps reduce electronic waste and overconsumption.

“From a sustainability perspective, it’s extremely important to find a solution for maximizing the value of existing products for society. This can prevent the production of cheap, unnecessary waste and alleviate constantly rising prices,” explained Argo Alaniit, CEO of GreenDice.

GreenDice extends the lifespan of all devices that enter its exchange cycle. The device’s lifecycle can be tracked through the company’s system, allowing for analysis of when a device entered material circulation, i.e., when its life cycle ended. GreenDice’s transparent circular economy model currently works with IT equipment but could successfully be applied in other fields.

“In addition to the current deficient practices, a vague ‘rent and forget’ model is gaining ground in the market, offering consumers the option to rent items for 3-5 years. However, this is a closed period from which it’s not possible to exit early, and after the rental period ends, attempts are made to sell items without a warranty to economically weaker target groups. With such practices, control is lost over what happens to the items afterward and how long they continue to create value for society,” Alaniit pointed out the concerns with unsustainable ventures.

Model Significantly Simplifies the Device Forwarding Process for the Bank

For the bank, it’s paramount to quickly, yet correctly and responsibly, dispose of surplus equipment within the device exchange cycle. As a large company, the goal is to make internal processes more efficient and sustainable.

“Previously, if we wanted to offer our employees the option to buy their old IT equipment, the IT department had to conduct a market price analysis for each device. Since GreenDice has a tax exemption issued by the Estonian Tax and Customs Board, it significantly simplifies the process of forwarding devices for us,” said Andrus Tamm, Head of Product Development and Technology at SEB.

After a maintenance overhaul at GreenDice’s workshop, the devices are rebranded with the bank’s logos.

“The stickers added to laptops protect the devices from scratches and are also an excellent solution for highlighting the brand. Thanks to collaborations with schools, the SEB logo is constantly in front of at least 1,500 pairs of eyes,” said GreenDice’s CEO.

GreenDice’s solution has brought SEB significant financial savings compared to computer rentals – the bank has nearly 4,500 devices across the Baltics and renting them would increase costs while also failing to achieve a social impact on society. Thanks to the fully traceable journey of each device, SEB can accurately report itself as a responsible consumer.

Service Based on Today’s Human Primary Need – Convenience

As part of the service, GreenDice repairs the device or replaces it with an equivalent, meaning there are no additional costs if the equipment breaks down or becomes obsolete. If a user no longer needs a device, they are obligated to return it to GreenDice. This allows the company to take responsibility and direct the returned device into material circulation.

“Access to quality computer technology has never been so accessible and supported. Starting from 7 euros per month, anyone can use proper devices with full maintenance, warranty, and technical support. Through the self-service system, it’s also possible to acquire, upgrade, and return devices, and if needed, order additional services such as Office 365 applications or OneDrive cloud space,” Alaniit added.
