GroAsk installs a lightweight hook script into Claude Code's event system. When a session starts, requests approval, or waits for input, the hook writes a status file. GroAsk monitors these files with macOS native file events (FSEvents) — no polling, no performance cost.
The hook installs automatically with one click. No terminal commands needed.
Currently the Dashboard monitors Claude Code sessions. Support for other CLI agents (Gemini CLI, Codex, etc.) is on the roadmap. The launcher already supports all 10 AIs.
When you have text selected in any app (a paragraph, code snippet, error message, etc.), press the hotkey and GroAsk automatically captures that text and sends it to your chosen AI. This eliminates manual copy-paste. Requires Accessibility permission.
Yes! The default hotkey is ⌥Space, but you can change it to ⌥G in Settings. If ⌥Space conflicts with another app (e.g. ChatGPT Desktop or Raycast), GroAsk will automatically fall back to ⌥G.
No. GroAsk is a launcher that connects to AI services via their websites or CLI tools. You need your own accounts and CLI installations. GroAsk makes it faster to access these services.
GroAsk requires internet to connect to AI services. The app itself works offline — no license or verification needed.
Chrome is only required for web AI channels (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Monica). GroAsk uses Chrome to open AI websites and auto-fill your questions. CLI tools (Claude Code, Gemini CLI, etc.) don't need Chrome at all. First-time setup requires enabling one permission in Chrome (Menu → View → Developer → Allow JavaScript from Apple Events).
Accessibility permission is only used for these features and does not access any other data:
The global hotkey does not require this permission. GroAsk does not collect, store, or upload any of your data. All operations happen locally.
GroAsk auto-updates to stay compatible with AI websites. When a website changes, we push an update and your app picks it up automatically — no manual app update needed.
If an update hasn't arrived yet, GroAsk falls back to clipboard mode (your query is copied so you can paste it manually).
GroAsk is in early access — completely free with all features included. No trial, no paywall. We're actively developing based on user feedback. Get in early and help shape the product.
GroAsk currently supports these CLI coding agents:
All can be installed with one click from GroAsk settings. New CLI tools are added regularly.
