Comment on Feature Essay on youth culture and war by Deaglan https://gycl.wordpress.com/2013/02/05/feature-essay-on-youth-culture-and-war/#comment-363 Wed, 06 Feb 2013 03:41:27 +0000 http://gycl.wordpress.com/?p=431#comment-363 I thought that was a decent overview of the relationship of militarism and sports, but I had trouble not noticing that you only discussed the experiences of male athletes. Both of you missed a great opportunity to address women in sports and the connections to militarism. As a starting point, I would suggest you research one of the first professional sports opportunities for women in North America, which were created solely because of war.
While, as you say, disapproval is given to male athletes who mix sports and politics, what happens to women athletes who dare to attempt this? Do you even notice when they do since they are given so little attention in the first place? It will take a bit more digging for you to research this since our society doesn’t care as much to document the experiences of women, especially in male-dominated areas such as sports and politics. But please still take a moment to consider their experiences and integrate this in your future analyses involving sports (and politics).

Comment on Québec Student Strike Has Deep Implications for Ontario Students by Marc https://gycl.wordpress.com/2012/05/11/quebec-student-strike-has-deep-implications-for-ontario-students/#comment-73 Sat, 12 May 2012 08:08:07 +0000 http://gycl.wordpress.com/?p=344#comment-73 Thanks for the support! Don’t worry for us, we’re holding our ground firmly – 160 000 students still on strike, an official 90 days now, the longest strike ever. It’s not to brag or anything to, but our actions of economical disruptance have reached an astronomic point just thursday, as the whole subway was completely shut down for 3 hours by some inoffensive smoke bombs. Cost evaluation in term of productivity loss : 10 millions an hour. The conclusion for our dear government (more like a corrupted elite in which no one has faith in anymore) : don’t fuck with us. And think about it twice next time before undertaking an open war agaisn’t your own youth.

Solidarity!

The campus was subsequently placed directly in the middle of the Newfoundland delegation, so as to not be bullied any more.

Comment on THE UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH, SWEATSHOPS, AND THE HONDURAN DICTATORSHIP by kelsey Timmerman https://gycl.wordpress.com/2009/10/16/the-university-of-guelph-sweatshops-and-the-honduran-dictatorship/#comment-4 Sun, 18 Oct 2009 03:13:30 +0000 http://gycl.wordpress.com/?p=58#comment-4 You ask a lot of great questions. The university movement is doing some pretty amazing things standing in solidarity with workers in Honduras. The toughest question is how much do we push?

If we push too much the workers could lose their jobs. And regardless of how bad that job is, they might not have a better option.

Surely Guelph will follow suit. 101 universities can’t be wrong.

Good luck!

Comment on Gryph (UofG Mascot) is a “golpista” (coup supporting, fascist apologist)… by Veronica https://gycl.wordpress.com/2009/09/29/gryph-uofg-mascot-is-a-golpista-coup-supporting-fascist-apologist/#comment-2 Fri, 02 Oct 2009 03:49:04 +0000 http://gycl.wordpress.com/?p=20#comment-2 My favourite part is the empty threat. I’m fairly confident there’s no way that “Gryph” could “report” Denise and get her in trouble for writing what she wrote on his wall. Gryph doesn’t get to decide his own terms of service, and I think Denise was well within Facebook’s.
