About the challenge

HackHERS is a 24 hours hackathon dedicated to empowering women and beginner technologists to explore, learn, and build with confidence. We believe innovation thrives when everyone has a voice, and HackHERS provides a welcoming space to turn ideas into impact.

Participants will engage in hands-on workshops, collaborative team building, and mentorship sessions led by industry professionals and university faculty. Whether you’re learning your first line of code or creating your next big project, HackHERS ensures you have the support, guidance, and inspiration to succeed.

This isn’t just a hackathon—it’s a community where creativity, curiosity, and inclusion come together to shape the future of tech.

Get started

Kick off your HackHERS journey by choosing a track—HealthHer, TechHer, or WorkHer—and turn your ideas into impact with creativity, purpose, and passion.

Requirements

What to Build

HackHERS projects should focus on creativity, learning, and collaboration rather than full functionality. Participants are encouraged to explore meaningful ideas that empower women through one of our three tracks — HealthHer, TechHer, or WorkHer.

Your submission should reflect your team’s original idea, creativity, feasibility, and potential impact. Whether it’s a prototype, concept, or working product, we value innovation, clarity, and problem-solving above perfection.

Judging will be based on:

  • Part 1 – Innovation & Originality: Idea quality, creativity, feasibility, and impact.

  • Part 2 – Presentation & Technical Implementation: Clarity, design, usability, and technical skill.

  • Bonus Demo (+10 pts): Optional prototype or live demo showcasing your project in action.

Projects will be scored out of 100 points + 10 bonus points, emphasizing concept clarity, originality, and growth through experimentation.

What to Submit

All submissions must be made through Devpost and include the following:

  1. Project Description – A concise overview explaining your project’s purpose, target audience, and how it supports or empowers women.

  2. Demo / Presentation – A short video or presentation showcasing your project’s features, design, and overall impact.

  3. Source Code – A link to your code repository (e.g., GitHub). Ensure it’s accessible and well-documented.

  4. Team Information – Names and roles of all team members.

  5. Impact Statement – A brief summary of the positive change your project aims to create in the lives of women.
