About the challenge
HealthML Challenge is an online student hackathon focused on applying machine learning and data science to real-world healthcare problems.
Modern healthcare generates vast amounts of data, yet many clinical, operational and public health challenges remain unsolved. This hackathon invites students to design intelligent solutions that improve outcomes for patients, clinicians and communities. From predictive modelling and medical NLP to digital health applications and responsible AI systems, participants will explore how technology can create meaningful impact in healthcare.
We value thoughtful problem selection, technical rigour and realistic solutions over flashy demos. Projects should be evidence-based, ethically responsible and practically deployable.
HealthML Challenge is a space to learn, collaborate and build AI that truly matters.

Requirements
What to Build
Build a working prototype that applies machine learning, AI or data science to solve a meaningful healthcare problem.
Your solution should address a real need in healthcare, public health or wellbeing and demonstrate thoughtful technical design and practical impact. Projects may be web apps, mobile apps, dashboards, models, APIs or research prototypes.
We encourage solutions such as:
-
Predictive models for risk assessment or early detection
-
NLP systems for clinical notes, wellbeing text or patient feedback
-
Decision-support tools for clinicians
-
Public health analytics and visualisation platforms
-
Digital health or patient self-management tools
-
Responsible and fair AI approaches for healthcare data
Focus on technical quality, usability and real-world feasibility, not just presentation.
