Their new 110v heat pump water heaters have a feature that is not well explained. but it’s a clever idea.

I called their tech support and they didn’t really know till they dug around for an answer.

Basically the hydroboost feature adds cold water to the hot water that is leaving the tank. this allows the tank to store extra hot water. that means you have more hot water than you would otherwise.

So for example, you can store 40gal of water at 140 degrees and by mixing it with cold water you can have 50 gal of water which is 120 degrees. Since it can take a heat pump longer to “Recover” (reheat the tank) vs a gas water heater then this is an extra useful feature. as long as the insulation is really good I suppose it’s ok to store hotter water.

The front of the water heater will let you adjust both the storage temp and the outgoing water temp. The app doesn’t allow adjustments to temperature however.

I got a text this morning that included my actual cell phone number. It’s clearly some kind of scam and it’s related to the cash app. So don’t click on any links that come via text message.

Katie Dally is Cash App’s spokesperson, she told the Free press in an email, “As a reminder, the Cash App team will never ask customers to send them money, nor will they solicit a customer’s PIN or sign-in code outside of the app.” She added, “If you believe you have fallen victim to a scam, you should contact Cash App support through the app or website immediately.”

The Free Press says when you search online or through the Cash App website you might find a support number of 855-351-2274. That number is legitimate, but it directs people having issues to contact a Cash App team member through the app or you can visit Cash.App/help.

This sale was too good to be true…. more than half off some great Bose headphones and in-ear headsets.

Here is one “red flag” via IsLegitSite that confirms that it is most likely a scam site: “The domain name was created only 8 days ago.“   They are referring to the domain “bosexstores.com”

I’ve enjoyed using the Instacart delivery service but it’s never been very clear how much of a markup they implement  — how much more I am paying for delivery versus going into a store and purchasing directly. Each store does clearly state whether the prices are the same or different so that’s helpful.

Here is an example of one item and the price mark up on the Instacart website versus buying it in that same store in person.

So buying an impossible burger – 12oz fake ground beef – is $9.99 at Andronico’s in person but $11.49 if you buy it through Instacart. And of course, Instacart will add a service fee even if you have a $10 a month subscription. If you don’t have the subscription they’ll charge approximately $10 for delivery and on top of that is also whatever tip you want to provide.

I read online Instacart charges up to a 23% markup over store prices — 8%  higher than the “15%+” they claim.

• Is this ecommerce website genuine?
• look for: Contact details. A legitimate store will have contact details and no strange addresses.
• Customer feedback/reviews – these can of course be faked.

another clue is that this shirt was listed as being available in XS when Levi’s site doesn’t list that size. also, this is a rare “last season” item and they claim to have all sizes available. unlikely since no other site has this item at all.

I’m also suspicious of these sites that might be illegitimate scam websites for clothing ecommerce:

if someone calls you and tells you your energy bill is overdue and says phrases like “account shutoff notification” and then tells you to call another number to pay your bill then be aware it is a scam

i was called today. the caller ID said PG&E. the number I was given was 844-756-2669

Some of the fraudulent calls have included:
