The 5 food mistakes we all make

António Câmara | 8th February 2024

1. Not drinking enough water

We often forget something so simple yet crucial: drinking water. Hydration not only helps keep our skin healthy and radiant, but it’s also essential for our body to function properly.

  • Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
  • If you often forget, try setting reminders on your phone.
  • Opt for infusions or flavored waters if plain water seems boring.

Remembering to stay properly hydrated may seem like a challenge, but the benefits to your health and well-being are immense. Don’t underestimate the importance of drinking water regularly!

2. Skipping meals

Skipping meals may seem like a good idea when you’re trying to lose weight or simply because your day-to-day life is too busy. However, this practice can have the opposite of the desired effect. When you skip meals, your metabolism slows down, which can lead to weight gain in the long run.

What’s more, when you finally do eat, you’re likely to be so hungry that you end up eating more than you need. To avoid falling into this trap:

  • Plan your meals in advance.
  • Keep healthy snacks on hand for when you’re hungry.
  • Try to eat every three to four hours to keep your metabolism active.

    3. Excessive sugar consumption

Did you know that excessive sugar consumption can be one of your biggest enemies when it comes to eating healthily? Often, without realizing it, we eat far more sugar than is recommended. And no, we’re not just talking about the obvious sweets. Sugar is hidden in many processed foods, sauces and even drinks that are considered healthy.

To combat this habit, here are some tips:

    • Always read product labels, looking for added sugars.
    • Opt for whole fruits instead of juices or packaged snacks.
    • Reduce your consumption of sugary drinks, replacing them with water, unsweetened teas or naturally flavored waters.

Remembering to reduce sugar consumption is crucial to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and avoiding long-term health problems. Start making more conscious choices today!

    4. Lack of food diversity

Eating the same foods over and over again not only becomes monotonous, but can also lead to nutritional deficiencies. Here are some tips for adding color and nutrients to your plate:

    • Try a new fruit or vegetable every week.
    • Include a different protein source at every meal.
    • Vary the colors on your plate; each color represents different nutrients.

Remembering to diversify your diet is not just a matter of taste, but also of health. After all, our bodies need a wide range of nutrients to function well. Don’t let a lack of dietary diversity limit your well-being!

    5. Overindulging in processed foods

We know they’re practical, but processed foods are far from the best option for your health. These products are loaded with preservatives, colorings and other additives that can harm your well-being in the long run.

To avoid falling into this trap, here are some tips:

    • Opt for fresh and natural foods whenever possible.
    • Plan your meals in advance to avoid the temptation to resort to quick, less healthy options.
    • Learn to read product labels. The fewer the ingredients and the more natural, the better.

Remembering to make conscious choices can make a big difference to your diet and, consequently, your health. Start taking small steps today to reduce your consumption of processed foods and you’ll see the benefits in the long run.

If you want to avoid these mistakes, there’s only one choice: order fresh, healthy products from Hortee. Create an account and start changing your diet now!

3 reasons why you should start eating fresh products

    António Câmara | 8th February 2024

    1. Improve your diet with fresher products

Opting for fresh produce instead of processed food is a giant step towards improving your health. Fresh produce is packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that play a vital role in our health. They help strengthen the immune system, improve skin health and even reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

By incorporating more fresh food into your diet, you’re not only investing in your long-term health, but you’re also taking an important step towards a healthier and happier life.

    2. Products with a real taste

Have you ever compared the flavour of a freshly picked tomato with that of a tinned tomato? The difference is abysmal! Fresh produce offers an authentic, rich flavour that you simply can’t find in processed products.

    • Try making a salad with fresh vegetables and you’ll notice the explosion of flavours.
    • By cooking with fresh ingredients, you’re ensuring that the flavour of your food is as natural and delicious as possible.

By opting for fresh produce, you’re making a conscious choice for your health. As mentioned in an Easyslim Diet article, one of the main arguments against processed foods is that they often have fewer nutrients compared to fresh, unprocessed foods. This is a compelling reason to make the change today!

    3. Choosing fresh products has a positive impact on the environment

By choosing fresh products over processed ones, you’re taking a big step towards a healthier planet. The production of processed food consumes more energy, water and natural resources, contributing significantly to pollution and the depletion of natural resources. On the other hand, fresh produce, especially when it comes from local agriculture, has a much smaller ecological footprint.

    • Reduce the use of packaging
    • Reduce long-distance transportation
    • Support sustainable agriculture

By choosing fresh food, you’re not only benefiting your health, but also contributing to a greener, more sustainable future. Remember, every food choice counts in the fight against climate change.

3 reasons to consume local products

    António Câmara | 8th February 2024

    1. Support the local economy

By opting for local products, you’re giving a significant boost to your region’s economy. It’s not just a question of buying; it’s a way of investing in the community where you live. In doing so, you contribute to the creation of jobs and the strengthening local businesses, which are the heart of the local economy.

In addition, by supporting local producers, you’re forging stronger ties with your community, fostering an environment of cooperation and mutual support. It’s a way of being part of something bigger, contributing to collective well-being.

    2. Fresher and healthier products

When you opt for local produce, you’re guaranteeing unparalleled freshness. The food doesn’t have to travel long distances to reach your plate, which means it’s picked at the right point of ripeness. This not only guarantees a more intense flavor, but also preserves essential nutrients.

By choosing local products, you are not only supporting the economy of your region, but also contributing to healthier and more sustainable eating. Remember, the quality of what you eat is reflected in your health and well-being.

    3. Reduces ecological footprint

By opting for local products, you’re taking a big step towards more sustainable consumption. Not only are you supporting your region’s economy, but you’re also making a significant contribution to reducing the ecological footprint. How?

    • Less transportation means less greenhouse gas emissions. Local products don’t have to travel thousands of kilometers to reach you.
    • Local production tends to be smaller and less intensive, which reduces environmental impact.
    • By consuming local, you are encouraging more sustainable agricultural practices and contributing to the resilience to climate change.

By buying local products, you’re not only benefiting the environment, but also contributing to a stronger, more resilient community. Everyone wins.
