How do I change a device to a static IP address? Do I just change it in the existing device configuration, or do I need to create a special profile for each device/static ip? What is the preferred IGEL way to do it?

Currently the device is live with a DHCP.

kb.igel.com/igelos-11.08.330/en/lan-interfaces-88021912.html

But why static IPs?

a mapping file of hostnames to static IPs could be created and then used in a profile / script to do the work.

Here is an example of a profile that maps printers.

github.com/IGEL-Community/IGEL-Custom-Partitions/tree/master/CP_Source/Tools_Drivers/WFO-Add-Assigned-Printers

Something similar could be created for setting static IPs.

If you really need/want fixed IPs, I‘d recommend to use DHCP reservations

Hi everyone. Looking for a way to add a black backround box to my conky text. Here is my current config within UMS and what it looks like on the desktop.

You again? 😉

Did the xinerama_head fix the conky visiblity?

Yes it did. Everything that I have a question for you guys have a resolution for, I apperciate it greatly!

Good to hear! ;)

A good intro, with some IGEL specific configurations:

blog.wesdobry.com/2021/10/03/customizing-conky-in-igel-os/

And then get as crazy as you’d like:

www.ifxgroup.net/conky.htm

I just dont understand where I am applying the config changes. Do I create a seperate rule in the UMS under conky & settings. For example If I want to add borders around the box is this correct?

Conky can be a bit of a chore to get exactly as you want. Partially because some of the documentation is inconsistent. Partially because in IGEL, the process goes through IGEL’s own mechanisms to deliver and unravel the config file.

So you are in the right area in the screen shot above. That looks right to me.

I’m actually interested in how you got transparent Conky working. I’ve played with it, and have not been able to get a transparent Conky working at all?!?

1. Which IGEL OS version are you running?

2. Are you able to post your resulting Conky file from `/etc/conky/conky.conf`?

For background colour, the Conky documentation mostly uses the spelling “color”, with “own_window_colour” being an exception.

So in this case, to get a pink background:

“`Config name –> own_window_colour

Config value –> ‘pink’“`

If the above doesn’t work to get the background colour working, it could also be your opacity settings. However, so far, they seem ineffective in my own environment, and I’m always seeing a solid background.

Ok, seems that “opacity” feature, might require wm “compositing” setting, which I didn’t have enabled. (Now I’m having difficulting “undoing the compositing”, but that’s another story)

Assuming that you have “opacity” working, if you wanted a semi-transparent rectangle around your conky, all you should need to do is change the `Conky System Monitor –> Options –> “Opacity” slider` to the middle (around 100). When applied to the IGEL endpoint, it results in the “/etc/conky/conky.conf” file having the following entry:

“`conky.config = {

own_window_argb_value = 100,

}“`

Hi, from IGEL OS 11.08.440 shouldn’t Firefox support FIDO2 login for example on Microsoft sites?

Hi @member, are you asking if Microsoft considers Firefox a supported FIDO2 compatible browser for AAD on Linux OS?

Unfortunately it is not considered a supported browser ATM.

learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/authentication/fido2-compatibility#supported-browsers

In fact, as a result of opening an incident with MS, I’ve been told that “Chromium” is considered NOT supported scope for this, and explicitly that only “Google Chrome” would be considered supported.

I’ve requested from MS that Firefox gets added to this list via a Microsoft DCR (Design Change Request) – but there was already some opened by other customers. There seem to be a few open DCR around this, but I’ve been told it could be a long time. I would recommend that you reach out to your MS rep and push for this, the more demand, hopefully the faster it will come.

I have asked for IGEL to advocate MS, on this feature. Not sure on the state of that. :(

Os11 will be eol end of 2025 and the m340c doesn’t meet os12 requirements unfortunately

Thank you for the answer! 🙂

@member why doesn’t the M340C meet the requirements? :thinking_face:

kb.igel.com/hardware/en/devices-supported-by-igel-os-12-81496425.html

@member I know this list. @member I need clarification on this. The M340C device, why should it not meet the OS12 requirements?

I’m talking about the M340C W10 client, which we converted to an OS 11 device. I don’t understand, why this client shouldn’t meet the OS12 requirements. There is a CPU (64-bit) with 4 cores and 2,5 GHz speed. 4GB DDR3 RAM and 32GB storage. AMD graphic chip set and also matched all other requirements.

Then it’s supported 👍:skin-tone-5:

I was talking about these

@member but I don’t know, which M340C you have. If you have the smaller M340C with lower RAM and storage, I think the statement is correct, that they are not supported with OS12.

Hi,

The company’s IGEL and UMS 6 are set to prohibit access to internet.

We are currently planning to upgrade to UMS 12. How can we enable UMS to access the App Portal?

You can download the apps manually from another device and upload them into the ums

You can also, if your company allows, permit access to app.igel.com from UMS. The clients can get their updates for apps directly from the UMS server

I would work with your network / security team to file exception for access to needed items for IGEL to work as designed.

Your IGEL channel partner or IGEL advanced services can assist in writing the execption.

Hi Team, I am trying to install new ICG from UMS server and during the install my UMS server is got rebooted. again I am trying to progress to install the ICG and getting message “already installed” but I don’t see in new ICG in UMS IGEL Cloud gateway

Looks like the installation of the software finished on the server for the ICG but it did not register in the UMS. Try to just add it with the butteon “Add existing gateway to the database”, type in your URL etc. If this does not work, SSH to your ICG server and uninstall ICG as described here: kb.igel.com/igelicg-12.02/en/uninstalling-icg-90238534.html Then install again.

Hi l put a PDF file from UMS on the IGEL desktop and it asks what to open the file with. Is there any way to default this to something that would open it with a viewer? It currently asks me for a list of apps to select from

There’s a built in “GNOME Document Viewer” (`/usr/bin/evince`), or alternatively you could use one of the web-browsers…both firefox and chromium should be able to open them.

Re-reading, you are dropping the pdf directly on the IGEL desktop? And you wish to avoid the “prompt” that happens on double-click. Probably easier to put the PDF file somewhere else (/wfs/…) and create a “custom-application” with the command-line “`/usr/bin/evince /wfs/pdfile.pdf`”, that will open the PDF.

igelcommunity.slack.com/archives/C8WEVHWH2/p1696270402243269

Isn’t “evince” is already the default when you click the pdf file on the desktop? Can you show the prompt you get?

Hi guys running 11.08.360 and using vmware horizon client that opens in a firefox browser that brings user to workspace URL. The issue is that when the user is done with their VDI session they sign out and the firefox browser ends up staying up on the IGEL OS, when the staff log in the next morning they see the firefox browser still open and click “click here to sign in” but get acccess denied because the browser is still thinking its an old session. Is there a way to auto close firefox and or the vmware horizon client on IGEL at a specific time so when the user logs in in the morning they have to reclick the client & a new browser opens up?

VMware post-session command set to ‘logoff’ should suffice: kb.igel.com/igelos-11.03.500/en/post-session-27247360.html

basically if the Horizon Client closes, clean up the entire desktop (and then relaunch Horizon to the login screen, if you have it configured to autostart)

I believe the horizon client is already closed when they sign off VDI, what remains is the firefox browser that says “click here to sign in” would the post session command set to logoff also close the firefox browser? Additionally our users also have the ability to disconnect as opposed to logoff. Would disconnect also apply to this post session

yes and yes – the post session command would trigger when the Horizon Client process stops

Great thank you :)

Use UMS files to put into /wfs … Then have a final desktop command to link it into desktop.

I have added a cp command to copy the file form /wfs to /userhome/desktop but it doesn’t seem to be working

I would just link it

“`ln -sv /wfs/file_name.txt /userhome/desktop/file_name.txt“`

Make sure that the permissions on the file are `a+r`

“`chmod a+r /wfs/file_name.txt“`
