We’ve added a new section to your profile, across the I’m a… projects: “How I use…”

This short section is your chance to show students how your work connects to the project, and how different subject areas overlap in real-life jobs.

You will get this question for each of the projects you are taking part in. For example, if you picked geography and maths themes when you signed up, you will have ‘How I use geography in my work’ and ‘How I use maths in my work’.

Filling out this section will help students see that the subjects they’re studying don’t exist in isolation, but work together outside of the classroom. For example, a geographer also taking part in I’m a Mathematician might talk about how they use maths to model a process, or a scientist taking part in I’m a Computer Scientist might explain how computers help them analyse data.

Please take a moment to complete this new section. You can do so by going to your Dashboard, clicking ‘Edit your profile’, and adding a sentence or two into the relevant field. You can fill in these sections on any project – your answer will be automatically carried across.

Through participating in I’m a Scientist, school students get to see scientists as “normal people doing research“. That helps them see more opportunities for themselves in life.

Geography was recently described to me as “the bit between hard rock and the outer atmosphere.” It gets involved in so much of our lives. How we travel. Where we live. The resources we use. The things we enjoy.

Yet, despite its influence, most people would struggle to think of a geographer. Possibly because the people who use geography in their work don’t call themselves ‘geographers’.

This term, we are launching I’m a Geographer, in partnership with the RGS. This new project will help students explore how geography is used by a diverse range of professionals in their jobs.

📆 What happens next?

Registration opens today for schools and geography professionals. Bookings will open on 20 October, for Chats to begin from 3 November 2025.

The new project is part of our long-term strategy to offer schools a broad-based, cross-curricular resource to support students’ career aspirations, and subject knowledge.
