Political leaders in Ladakh have called for a total shutdown as thousands protest against the Centre's impasse in dialogue. The region's representative bodies are demanding statehood and safeguards under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. This is the first major protest since last year's sit-in protests, where four people died and activist Sonam Wangchuk was detained.
