To check which systems support this claim, IPTC checks about a dozen sites regularly: in 2013, <a href=\"http:\/\/embeddedmetadata.org\/social-media-test-results.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in 2016<\/a> and now again in Spring 2019. Below we explain how we&#8217;ve tested and show the test results.<\/p>\n<h2>Test Procedure<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Systems have been tested by members of the IPTC <a href=\"\/about-iptc\/work-structure\/#pmd\">Photo Metadata Working Group<\/a>, all applied the same procedure:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li>Uploading an image with values in many fields of the IPTC <a href=\"\/standards\/photo-metadata\/iptc-standard\/\">Photo Metadata Standard<\/a>, e.g. the <a href=\"\/std\/photometadata\/examples\/IPTC-PhotometadataRef-Std2017.1.jpg\">latest Reference Image File<\/a>. This implies that all embedded metadata values are known and can be checked.<\/li>\n<li>Checking how this uploaded image is presented to a viewer of this site or system:\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li>Are any embedded metadata values displayed?<\/li>\n<li>If displayed: is the shown value of a field the same as the embedded value, <strong>are the values displayed correctly?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>If displayed: are these 4 relevant fields shown, correctly: Caption\/description, Creator, Copyright Notice, Credit Line (= the<strong> 4Cs<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Check if the image can be saved to a local device by a Save As function of the web browser.<br \/>\nIf yes: <strong>test the saved image file<\/strong>: are the embedded Exif and IPTC <strong>metadata<\/strong> (in the formats IIM and XMP) of the uploaded image<strong> still embedded?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Check if the image can be downloaded by a function of the tested system (e.g. a menu item).<br \/>\nIf yes: <strong>test the downloaded image file<\/strong>: are the embedded Exif and IPTC <strong>metadata<\/strong> (in the formats IIM and XMP)\u00a0of the uploaded image <strong>still embedded?<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Test Results<\/h2>\n<p>The first column shows the name and a link of the tested system.<\/p>\n<p>The Summary column shows a short free-text summary of the results.<\/p>\n<p>The other columns show results using icons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>By the colour of dots: <strong><span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">green<\/span> <\/strong>= result is ok; <strong><span style=\"color: #e6c807;\">yellow <\/span><\/strong>= result is almost ok, <span style=\"color: #a60000;\"><strong>red<\/strong><\/span>: result is not ok<\/li>\n<li>By a label below a dot: IPTC = IPTC metadata in general, IPTC IIM = IPTC metadata using the IIM format, IPTC XMP = IPTC metadata using the XMP format, Exif = Exif metadata.
