In Today’s high-tech industry, there are various types of equipment that a Technical Engineer has to address.
Summarized list of Technical Personnel tasks are:
Planning and preparation to visit a customer site, especially if it is out of town.
When arrived at the project location, taking notes and documentations for the customer report.
Taking notes for internal company records.
Taking notes for internal technical department.
Be able to tap into standard forms (for example Yearly Service Check Points).
Following maintenance steps prepared by local branch.
Consulting Service procedures supplied by the factory.
Be able to compare measurements at site with historical data (Ex: I am measuring 207vac as the input to the machine today, would be nice to know what the measured voltage was last year).
This is a very short summary of the tasks to be performed.
Without a proper Intelligent Service Management Software, service calls can become a very challenging job. Either the company needs to hire several people to manually manage these tasks along side with the technical employees or have one person in the Technical department to develop a database for this purpose only.
Only a Technical Service Employee with consultation with his/her manager can develop such a system that targets the important tasks at hands. The Software/database system needs constant modifications and fine tuning maybe for years. The initial work is a lot, however once it is customized, it will make the jobs extremely efficient, and less costly to the company. Also hiring new employees and training him/her would be much easier as there is a standard to follow without too many guess works.
A standard software like a Spreadsheet is a great tool, but in this particular situation, it can’t handle all the requirements.
