BCSS' brand new competition is launching in 2024. We've joined forces with 4 societies to bring you a week-long game jam. Get together in groups of 4 to build your very own game and win prizes! You don't need any coding knowledge: even physical board games are eligible for entry.
You'll have just over 7 days to build an innovative project with your team and impress the judges. It's a fun, inclusive, and beginner-friendly atmosphere with a range of ways to compete.
The event starts with a fun kick-off and team-building session, and ends with an exciting showcase you can bring all your friends to (free pizza included). You'll build your projects to a mystery theme that we'll reveal at the kick-off.
Requirements
The projects must comply with the mystery theme, revealed at the kick-off on Wednesday 30th October (18:15 in CB 3.5). We'll update the theme here once it's been revealed :)
You also must target one or more tracks. You don't need to explicitly declare which track(s) you're targetting, and you can target more than one if you'd like. Your project will automatically be considered for all tracks that seem eligible.
Your game doesn't need to have any code associated. If it does have code, we'll need you to submit a GitHub/GitLab repository. Please ask our committee if you need help. In any case, you'll need to submit a ~1-3 minute video demonstrating your game.
Prizes
Jammers' Choice
People are great, and we famously always make good decisions as a group. The biggest decision of your collective lives is now upon you! Who’s got the funniest game? Which one really tugs at your heart strings? Which do you think is just the best? It really is up to you!
Prize: £50 Amazon gift card + DucksBath cap worth £25
Best Concept
This one's all about your vision! Even if you haven't managed to fully implement your game in a single week, our judges will be looking for an excellent unique idea. Perhaps your game has really quirky controls, or there's just something interesting about the story. As long as you've made some progress towards a prototype, you'll get considered for this!
Prize: £50 Amazon gift card
Best Art
With games, design is everything. We're looking for extremely well executed art that integrates well with your game's wider concept. Whether it's cute, ultra-realistic, or just satisfying to look at, we're certain the competition will be intense for this one!
Prize: £25 Amazon gift card
Best Physical Game
That's right: there's absolutely no coding required for this one! Anything with a clear substantial non-computery element is eligible for this track. Ranging from board games to even a new version of football, it's entirely open to your interpretation. If you're unsure whether your project is eligible, you'll be able to ask our Committee during the kick-off event.
Prize: £25 Amazon gift card
