The 5 Best Battle Royale Games https://jlsgaming.com/the-5-best-battle-royale-games/ Fri, 11 Feb 2022 21:00:00 +0000 https://jlsgaming.com/?p=1090 Read more]]>

Battle royale games all follow the same premise: many enter, but only one leaves. It’s a brutal premise, but one that many gamers seem to love, perhaps because winning against a hundred other players just feels so darn good.

From older games that defined the genre to newer ones that are just as well-made, here are our top 5 picks for the best battle royale games to ever exist.

5. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout

Fall Guys came out in the summer of 2020, and it was immediately a huge hit. A somewhat unconventional battle royale, Fall Guys is essentially a platformer that pits 60 players against each other in obstacle course style levels where only the best will survive.

Sure, it’s not perfect, but it’s a pretty great game that people all over the world loved, at least until they got bored of it about a month after release.

4. Apex Legends

Apex Legends is a hero-based battle royale where fast reaction times and good strategy are required to win. Movement in this game is the most fluid out of any game on this list, so if you like being able to zoom around with little restriction, you’ll likely have a great time with Apex Legends. The gunfights are a lot of fun, too, and the range of exciting weapons available in the game leads to some interesting situations.

Oh, and it’s free-to-play, meaning anyone can jump in and get started right away.

3. Fortnite

Love it or hate it, Fortnite has been a massively successful battle royale that many people around the world still play every single day. Sure, the building aspect can be frustrating at times, but if you can master it, we guarantee you’ll grow to love this game.

Also, have you seen how many iconic skins this game has? I mean, there are skins for John Wick, Spider-Man, and even Naruto. How crazy is that?

2. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

PUBG is a battle royale done right, as evidenced by the fact that it’s currently the 5th best-selling game of all time. It keeps things simple, realistic, and even gets regular updates to keep it interesting, making it one of the most beloved battle royale games around.

If you don’t like the unnecessary complexity that comes with other games on this list, then be sure to give PUBG a go. We think you’ll love it.

1. Minecraft Hunger Games

In our eyes, nothing beats the classic Minecraft Hunger Games mode that many of us grew up with. From giant islands to abandoned airports and theme parks, you get to experience a whole new environment every game thanks to the massive number of player-made maps out there, which is only growing by the day.

If you don’t mind the blocky graphics and are looking for a battle royale that provides a simple yet brilliant experience, then MCHG is for you.

Final Words

Well, there you have it, our top 5 battle royale games. We’d highly recommend you give them all a shot because chances are you’ll like at least one of them.

And hey, if you don’t, that’s totally okay too. They can be quite stressful at times, so we understand that they’re not for everyone.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Tips & Tricks https://jlsgaming.com/mario-kart-8-deluxe-tips-tricks/ Wed, 26 Jan 2022 09:30:00 +0000 https://jlsgaming.com/?p=978 Read more]]>

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was released just over 4 years ago now, but it still remains one of the most popular Nintendo games around with tens of thousands of people flooding into the online servers daily for some races.

Were you the best at Mario Kart Wii back in the day but now struggle to keep up in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? If so, then be sure to keep reading, as we’re going to go over some tips and strategies that’ll help you improve and win races more often. Let’s get straight into it.

Drifting 101

Understanding drifting is the key to success in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe because it lets you get around corners faster and gives you a bunch of much-needed speed boosts. It takes some practice to get the timing right every time, but in general, you want to start your drift before you turn and use the joystick to adjust your trajectory as you go around the bend.

In terms of speed boosts, there are three types based on the color of sparks you get coming off your wheels during your drift: blue, orange, and purple. The longer you drift, the better the boost you get, with purple sparks being the best.

Jump Boosts, Spin Boosts, and Slipstreaming

Drift boosts aren’t the only boost you can get in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe! There are three other main ones which we’ll talk about now.

Firstly, you’ve got jump boosts, which you get from hopping at the right time as you go over a bump or ramp. They’re relatively easy to do and you can get a bunch of them each race. Next, there are spin boosts, which you get from bumping into other players when your kart is in anti-gravity mode, and lastly, there are slipstream boosts, which you get from following closely behind another player for a short period of time.

Once you master all of these different boosts and start pulling them off consistently, you’ll be zooming ahead in your races, so get practicing!

Coins

Next, let’s talk about coins. Coins aren’t just used to unlock new kart parts in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, they’re actually super useful during the race for two reasons. Firstly, coins give you a small speed boost when collected, and secondly, they increase your top speed (capped at 10 coins). These things may seem small and insignificant, but any advantage you can get over your opponents is invaluable in this game, so be sure to collect those coins. And hey, even if you don’t win, you’ll at least be unlocking new kart pieces along the way!

Other Miscellaneous Tips

Finally, let’s list out a few miscellaneous tips that are useful to know when racing:

 • Certain items like shells and bananas can be held behind the kart (by holding the action button) to protect your racer from getting hit by incoming projectiles
 • Many maps have useful shortcuts that can help you get ahead, so be sure to take advantage of those
 • The kart parts you choose have a big effect on how fast you travel, so be sure to choose ones that have the highest acceleration and top speed possible

Hopefully you’ve learned something new today that you can apply to your games to be the best racer you can be. With a little bit of practice, you’ll get the hang of things in no time. Good luck out there!

Why Minecraft Is STILL the Most Popular Game Around in 2022! https://jlsgaming.com/why-minecraft-is-still-the-most-popular-game-around-in-2022/ Sun, 09 Jan 2022 21:30:00 +0000 https://jlsgaming.com/?p=974 Read more]]>

Minecraft was released way back in 2011, and since then, it’s become the best-selling game in the entire world. At 238 million sales and counting, it has surpassed Tetris, Pac-Man, Super Mario Bros., and even Grand Theft Auto V, but what is it about this game that made it so popular? Today, we’re going to be exploring that question, so if you’re curious about the never-ending hype surrounding Minecraft, then be sure to stick around.

Let’s get straight to it.

Something for everyone

The beauty of Minecraft is that it caters to gamers of all levels, regardless of skill or experience. With a range of difficulty settings and things to do, the game can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be, and that freedom is no doubt part of its appeal.

Experienced gamers that like a good challenge may choose to play on hardcore mode or explore the more dangerous parts of the game like the Nether and End, whereas others may choose to just build freely in creative mode or build up a town in a peaceful world.

Endless building possibilities

One of the game’s major selling points is the building aspect that gives players total freedom over what they want to create. There are hundreds of blocks available for players to use, with more being added with each update, allowing for a level of creativity unmatched by any other game.

It’s great that Minecraft provides an outlet for the more creative minds, and it’s especially great for children because being able to think for themselves and express their creativity is an important part of growing up.

Multiplayer

Not only is Minecraft good fun to play alone, but it’s also a social activity that can be enjoyed with friends! Two or more players can enter the same world and go on adventures together or collaborate on building projects, and it’s a great way to bond and build up relationships. There are even hundreds of different mini-game servers around that anyone can go on, giving Minecraft players a virtually unlimited number of ways to have fun. Multiplayer is typically a great thing to have in a video game, and if it wasn’t in Minecraft, I doubt it’d be anywhere near as popular as it is today.

Regular updates

Lastly, let’s talk about the game updates, which have been rolling in consistently over the past few years. These updates are arguably the most important things for the overall health of the game as they introduce all kinds of new creatures, blocks, items, and environments for players to discover. They help to keep the game feeling fresh and new, and as long as they keep coming, the game is sure to remain popular indefinitely.

Conclusion

Minecraft doesn’t have breath-taking graphics or an intricate UI, and truth be told, it doesn’t really need those things. It’s the simplicity of the game that makes it both appealing and accessible to so many players around the world. Have you given the game a go yet? Did you enjoy it? Let us know in the comments below, we’d love to hear your thoughts!

5 Characters That Would Have Been a Great Addition to Smash Ultimate https://jlsgaming.com/5-characters-that-would-have-been-a-great-addition-to-smash-ultimate/ Sat, 13 Nov 2021 21:00:00 +0000 https://jlsgaming.com/?p=905 Read more]]>

With the recent announcement of Sora as the final Smash Ultimate DLC fighter, the roster is now complete, with Sakurai stating that there are no plans to add more characters to the game. It’s been a wild ride from start to finish, and though the announcements are over, it’s nice knowing that so many cool and unexpected characters got added to Smash. I mean, who would’ve guessed that Steve from Minecraft would actually get added?

Despite everything, I can’t help but wonder what other characters would’ve been awesome to see added to Smash, so in this article, I’m going to explore some of the ones that I think would have made a great addition. Let’s get started.

Crash Bandicoot

Crash was a favorite within the community to get added to the game, and rightly so! The character is iconic and has a plethora of games named after him, but he didn’t make the cut for whatever reason. His spin attacks and slides would have been fierce in close-combat encounters, but it’s a shame we won’t get to see that.

Phoenix Wright

Phoenix Wright is well-known among Nintendo fans around the world, being the protagonist of some of the best courtroom-based games in the world. Having him shout “Objection!” or “Hold it!” as he performs his attacks would be a sight to behold, and I guarantee the majority of the Smash community would love to have seen him included in the game. Also, if you’ve never played a Pheonix Wright game before, then do yourself a favor and check them out. I promise you won’t regret it.

Professor Layton

Professor Layton is another iconic Nintendo character and seeing him in a fighting game would be so funny given his friendly nature. If you don’t know who this man is, then you’ve missed out, because he was the lead character in 6 fantastic puzzle games released for DS and 3DS. Not only would having him in Smash be great fun given the quirky moves he’d likely have, but it’d also be great for the Layton series as it would introduce people to it that may not have known about it otherwise. That’s why he’s on our list.

Paper Mario

Paper Mario is next, and I just know he’d fit right in with the rest of the Smash roster. I mean, just imagine him swinging his hammer and bonking his enemies on the head, launching them out of the arena. Who wouldn’t want to experience that?

Waluigi

Last but certainly not least, there’s Waluigi, who absolutely deserved a spot on the roster. I mean, literally every other major Nintendo character is on there, so how did he not make the cut? Waluigi is literally the face of Nintendo in online meme culture, and unsurprisingly a lot of fans are upset about his exclusion. Perhaps someday he’ll make it into a Smash game, but that won’t be for at least another few years.

Wrapping up

So, what do you think? Do you agree with our list? Are there any other characters you’d have liked to see in Smash? Let us know in the comments below. We’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for reading!

How Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Took the World by Storm https://jlsgaming.com/how-nickelodeon-all-star-brawl-took-the-world-by-storm/ Wed, 03 Nov 2021 20:00:00 +0000 https://jlsgaming.com/?p=899 Read more]]>

A new fighting game featuring popular Nickelodeon characters was recently released, and players around the world are pleasantly surprised at how fun it is. Sure, the visuals aren’t the best and it’s not as polished as other similar games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but it’s being widely regarded as a well-made fighting game.

Have you heard about this game and are wondering what all the chatter is about? Maybe you’re even considering getting it yourself? Well either way be sure to stick around, as we’re going to go over some of what you can expect from this game in this article.

Let’s begin.

20 playable characters

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl features a cast of 20 playable characters, all of which come from popular Nickelodeon shows. You’ve got well-known characters like Spongebob, Aang, and the Ninja Turtles, but there are also a bunch of underrated characters that make an appearance, including Powdered Toast Man from The Ren & Stimpy Show as well as CatDog.

The cool thing is that there will even be a bunch of new characters added in future DLC updates, so be sure to keep an eye out for those.

Recognizable stages

In addition to the characters, a bunch of the stages are based on iconic locations from a variety of different Nickelodeon cartoons, so get ready for a trip down memory lane. There are also a bunch of unique environmental hazards on a few of the maps, adding some challenge to the standard fighting gameplay. The game really is like Super Smash Bros. in many ways, but is that such a bad thing?

Moves and mechanics

When it comes to the moves and mechanics that you can take advantage of when fighting your opponents, every character has different ones that are unique to them. Though this may seem slightly overwhelming and complicated, especially if you’re new to the fighting game genre, a lot of the moves are quite simple to use and get the hang of, so don’t worry. There’s also plenty of potential for combos once you’re a bit more experienced, so you’ve got that to look forward to.

Multiplayer

No fighting game would be complete without multiplayer, so it’s no surprise that it’s a big part of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl. You can play both locally and online with up to 4 players, and there’s even an online ranked system for those of you brave enough to take on other players in a more competitive setting. If you like the sound of that, then definitely consider getting the game for yourself.

Conclusion

Overall, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is a fantastic game that keeps its mechanics simple enough for new players to get the hang of while providing depth for more experienced players. The visuals could be better and there are occasional performance issues, but that stuff ultimately doesn’t matter a huge amount. The fighting is top tier and it’s great fun to play with friends, and that’s why this game has become such a hit.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

2022

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, bringing back beloved characters and introducing a bunch of new ones too. If you’re unfamiliar with the Mario + Rabbids series, it’s basically a turn-based tactical RPG where you have to carefully plan out your moves each round to defeat various enemies. The original game was surprisingly good, and this sequel is looking to be no different, so this is definitely one to look forward to.

Mario Party Superstars

October 29, 2021

Mario Party Superstars is a new entry in the Mario Party series, featuring classic boards from the N64 era that older Nintendo fans are sure to remember. With a range of different modes, minigames, and playable characters, it’s sure to be a boatload of fun and it’ll hopefully be better than its predecessor, Super Mario Party, which was lacking in a lot of ways.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp

December 3, 2021

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is a remake of the first two Advance Wars games and its announcement came as a pleasant surprise to those of us watching the Nintendo E3 presentation earlier this year. Pokémon Legends: Arceus

January 28, 2022

This isn’t a traditional Pokémon game, as a lot of the gameplay will take place in an open-world environment similar to what you see in Breath of the Wild. The game also takes place in the past, rather than in the modern world, so expect a brand new Pokémon experience free from computers and other kinds of technology. Most Underrated Events in Animal Crossing: New Horizons https://jlsgaming.com/most-underrated-events-in-animal-crossing-new-horizons/ Wed, 20 Oct 2021 20:30:00 +0000 https://jlsgaming.com/?p=849 Read more]]>

Since its release early last year, Animal Crossing New Horizons has had so many updates adding all kinds of events for players to enjoy. We all know about Toy Day and Halloween, but what about some of the lesser-known ones? Today, we’re going to go over some of the most underrated events in Animal Crossing New Horizons that you may have not even know about.

Without further ado, let’s get right into it.

May Day

May Day is an event that occurs during the first week of May and takes place on a special island that’s essentially just one big maze full of puzzles. You’ll have to think carefully about what tools to make, which rocks to break, and which trees to uproot to get through successfully. There’s a special reward at the end if you can make it through, and there are even a bunch of smaller prizes dotted around in various corners of the maze.

If you enjoy elaborate puzzles and are looking for a change of pace from the standard Animal Crossing gameplay, then May Day is the event for you.

Wedding Season

Up next we’ve got the Wedding event that takes place throughout June, which is arguably one of the most adorable events in the entire game. Here, you get to interact with Reese and Cyrus and perform a photoshoot with them to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Not only do you get to let out your creative side, but you’ll also unlock a bunch of beautiful wedding-themed furniture items to use as you please on your island. How neat is that?

International Museum Day

The International Museum Day event takes place at the end of May and encourages you to explore the museum for all it has to offer, gathering special stamps along the way. Each exhibit has its own dedicated stamp sheet to fill in, and for each one you complete, you get a special golden plaque to commemorate the event. Pretty cool, right?

If you haven’t had the chance to properly explore the museum on your island yet, then the International Museum Day event is the time to do it. The entire place is breathtakingly beautiful, and I guarantee you’ll enjoy checking it out.

Turkey Day

Turkey Day is the Thanksgiving of Animal Crossing, taking place on the 4th Thursday of November each year. The event requires you to collect various ingredients to make special food dishes, and let me tell you, it’s really good fun. From mushrooms to mussels, you’ll get told what you need to collect, and if you’re successful, you’ll get a bunch of cool Thanksgiving-themed items as a reward.

During the event, all of your villagers will dress up in chef outfits too, which is just adorable! Who wouldn’t want to see that?

Conclusion

Events pop up all the time in Animal Crossing New Horizons, so it’s always a good idea to hop on regularly to check out what’s new. Not only do most events give you unique items, but they also provide you with a completely new and exciting experience, so definitely consider participating in them (especially the more underrated ones we spoke about in this article). We guarantee you’ll have a blast.
