If it seems like your Klangio transcription has disappeared, don’t worry — it’s usually easy to recover. This article covers the most common reasons why your sheet might be missing and how to fix it.

Disclaimer: Log in to save your sheets in your Songbook!

You can use Klangio to create transcriptions for free, even without logging in.
However, if you transcribe without being logged in, your sheet won’t be saved to your account automatically.

To make sure your transcription is saved:

  1. Click “Login” in the top-right corner of the page, either before transcribing or when viewing a sheet.
  2. Once logged in, your sheet will appear in your Songbook.

Switching Klangio Apps

Klangio offers multiple apps, and each app has its own Songbook.
If you can’t find your transcription, you might be looking in the wrong app.

Here’s how to check:

  1. Go to klang.io.
  2. Click “Products” in the top-right corner.
  3. Select the app you used for your transcription.
  4. Click “My Songbook” in the top-right corner to view your saved sheets for that specific app.

Switching Klangio Accounts

It’s also possible that you used a different email address when you created your transcription.

Try this:

  1. Click your profile icon in the top-right corner.
  2. Select “Log out.”
  3. Log back in with another email address you may have used.
  4. Open your Songbook to check if your transcription appears there.

Transcription Expired

If you created a transcription without logging in and didn’t claim it to your account within 30 days, it will automatically expire. In that case, you’ll need to re-transcribe the song. This time, make sure you’re logged in before or immediately after the transcription.

Feel free to check out the other articles in our Help Center, if you have questions about what your Klangio Transcriptions.

In this article, you will find out how to fix failing transcriptions with the Klangio Apps.

My Audio File Transcription is failing

The most common cause for a failing transcription of an audio file, is that no notes were detected for your selected instrument. Please be aware of each app’s limitations, and check make sure that:

  • You have selected the correct instrument and settings in the transcription wizard and using the right Klangio app.
  • The first 20 seconds of the song are not completely silent and contain the instrument you are transcribing.
  • Your file is not bigger than 100MB

My YouTube Transcription keeps failing

Occasionally, it can happen, that the service we are using for YouTube transcription is having issues with providing us with audio. Sadly, in these moments we are not able to fix this issue and have to wait until the service is back up and running. This is mostly the case if:

  • No matter what Link you enter, the transcription is failing.
  • The upload and record feature are still working.

In this case, you can:

  • Use a YouTube mp3 downloader you trust and then upload the audio file directly.
  • Use a microphone and good speakers to record a song directly with our recording feature.

This issue is usually fixed after a day or two. Please try using the YouTube transcription function again after a small period of time. We are very sorry for the inconvenience.

Feel free to check out the other articles in our Help Center, if you have questions regarding the Klangio apps.

This article provides a quick overview of how to use the Klangio Transcription Plugin to convert audio into unquantized MIDI, supporting multiple instruments.

What is the Klangio Transcription Plugin?

The Klangio Transcription Plugin uses state-of-the-art AI to:

  • Convert audio into unquantized MIDI
  • Identify and separate multiple instruments into individual MIDI tracks
  • Provide a streamlined workflow that blurs the boundaries between audio and MIDI

It’s ideal for musicians, producers, and creators looking for a fast and accurate way to turn recordings into editable MIDI.

Requirements

  • An active internet connection – transcription happens in the cloud

Download & Installation

Download

You can download the plugin installer from:

The installer includes both:

  • A VST3 plugin
  • A standalone version

Compatible with all major DAWs.

Installation

  1. Run the installer for your operating system (Windows or macOS).
  2. The VST3 will be placed in your system’s default VST directory (automatically detected by your DAW).
  3. The standalone version can be opened like any other application on your computer.

Basic Operation

Opening the Plugin

In your DAW:
Load the plugin into a track like any standard VST3 instrument. It should appear in your plugin list automatically.

Standalone Version:
Launch the app directly on your computer.

Recording or Importing Audio

To begin transcription, you can either:

  • Record audio directly within the plugin
  • Drag and drop an audio or video file into the plugin

Note: Files must be between 5 seconds and 15 minutes in length.

Recording Audio

In Your DAW (VST Version)

The plugin captures the audio output of the track it’s loaded into.

Tip: To transcribe your entire DAW output (i.e., everything you hear), insert the plugin into your Master Track.

Steps to record:

  1. Load the plugin into the desired track (must contain the audio to transcribe).
  2. Place the DAW cursor at the start of the audio item.
  3. Press Record in the plugin.
  4. Hit Play in your DAW.
  5. After recording ends, click Stop.
  6. Preview your recording. If satisfied, click Transcribe.

In Standalone Mode

The standalone version records microphone or line-in input.

💡 Workaround: To capture computer output, place your mic near your speakers.

Steps:

  1. Connect your instrument or position your mic near the sound source.
  2. Open Audio Settings (top-left or top-right menu) and select the correct input.
  3. Click Record – recording starts immediately.
  4. Click Stop when finished.

Drag & Drop Audio

Instead of recording, you can:

  • Drag & drop audio or video files directly into the drop zone (next to the Record button)
  • Or click the drop zone to manually browse your files

Supported file types include:

  • .wav, .mp3, .aac, .flac
  • .mp4, .mov and more

Full list available here

Transcription

The plugin can currently detect and transcribe the following instruments:

  • Vocals
  • Guitar (clean)
  • Piano
  • Bass
  • Drums
  • Strings
  • Winds (brass & woodwinds)
  • Synthesizers

If none are detected, you’ll receive:
“No instruments detected.”
Try a different audio file in that case.

💬 We welcome your feedback! Click the Support button to suggest new instrument types.

MIDI Preview

After transcription, you’ll see a pianoroll preview of the MIDI output, with playback options.

Features:

  • Play/Pause at the bottom center
  • Scrub the timeline
  • Toggle visibility/playback of instruments on the right

⚠ The preview uses basic instrument samples – the final result will sound much better when loaded into your DAW with virtual instruments.

Exporting MIDI

Once you’re satisfied:

  1. Drag & drop the MIDI files from the plugin into your DAW.
  2. Choose between:
    • Single instrument MIDI – one track per instrument
    • Multitrack MIDI file – all instruments in one file (DAWs will prompt to separate tracks)

Good to know:

  • MIDI is unquantized, preserving timing from the original audio
  • Use your DAW’s quantize function if needed
  • Note velocity is not detected – you can adjust it manually in your DAW

Klangio Studio Pro & Account Settings

Change the Language

Click on the burger menu in the top right corner to change the language of the plugin.

Subscription Required

To fully use the plugin, you’ll need a Klangio Studio Pro subscription.

Steps to upgrade:

  1. Click Upgrade in the plugin
  2. Log in or create a Klangio account
  3. Complete the subscription process

Adding Your Device

After subscribing:

  • You’ll be redirected to plugin.klang.io
  • Add your device ID with a few clicks
  • You can also remove old devices from your account

Up to 3 devices can be connected per subscription

Account Management

Visit plugin.klang.io, or click on “Account Settings” at the top right corner to:

  • Change account details
  • Cancel your subscription
  • Add and Remove Device IDs
  • Delete your account

⚠ Cancel your subscription before deleting your account to avoid billing issues.

Known Issues

Recording too slow (Windows)

If audio recording is delayed:

  • Restart your computer
  • Still having trouble? Contact us via the Support button in the plugin

Distorted Electric Guitar

Currently, only clean guitar tones are supported. Transcriptions of distorted guitars (e.g., metal/rock) may be inaccurate.

MIDI Drum Preview Sounds Off

The drum playback in the preview may sound incorrect.
To evaluate transcription quality:

  • Export the MIDI
  • Load a virtual drum instrument in your DAW

Related Tools

Try Klangio’s web apps for additional features:

  • Convert audio into sheet music or guitar tabs
  • Use Klangio Transcription Studio for a browser-based preview of transcription quality

Can I scan multi-instrumental sheet music and scores?

Choose which instrument should be assigned to which part.
Choose which instrument should be assigned to which part.

Yes! After scanning your sheet music you are asked to select instruments for the different voices detected in the sheet.

Can I scan printed and handwritten scores with Scan2Notes?

Currently, Scan2Notes is specifically trained to automatically detect printed sheet music. The resulting scan from handwritten scores can thus vary extremely depending on the type of your handwriting.

Can I scan guitar or bass TABs and drum notations?

Scan2Notes is capable of detecting standard sheet music notation. Drum notation aswell as Tabs are currently not supported.

Can I scan lyrics?

No, Scan2Notes is currenlty not able to scan lyrics from a sheet. However you can add them in manually afterwards. Click here to find out more.

Which musical symbols can Scan2Notes detect?

Scan2Notes can detect most standard musical symbols commonly found in printed sheet music. This includes notes, rhythms, clefs, key signatures, time signatures, ties, and slurs. Expression markings like dynamics, articulations (e.g. accents, staccato), and grace notes are currently not supported. Our detection focuses on the structural elements needed for playback and analysis of scores. We’re continually working to expand what the app can recognize in future updates.

Will any of the current restrictions be improved?

Absolutely! Klangio and HALBESTUNDE are working hard to constantly improve the capabilities of Scan2Notes to make it more robust and versatile to different styles of sheet music. Feel free to check out our Update Log, in which you can

I hope this explains, which kinds of sheet music can be detected by Scan2Notes. If you are curious about which music the Klangio transcription apps can transcribe, check out this article.

If you’ve just upgraded to our Pro Subscription for any of the Klangio apps and realize that you still can’t access your premium features, then you’ve come to the right place. In this guide, I will show you how to fix this.

Confirm your Purchase

First check if the purchase was successful, by checking your Mail Inbox. Here you should find a receipt that your payment was received, and your subscription is now active.

Log out and Log in

Occasionally, the Klangio Account struggles to register the changes. To fix this, simply log out and log back into your account.

Check your Account status

You can check if the subscription is activated with the Klangio account you are logged into by:

  1. Navigate to your songbook.
  2. Open up the menu in the top right corner.
  3. Click on “Account Info”
  4. See if your subscription is mentioned in this section.

If your subscription is not mentioned, it might also be that you are not logged into the account for which you have purchased the subscription. Please check the receipt you have received via mail to make sure that your purchase was successful, and you are using the correct Account and email address.

Make sure you are using the right Klangio App

It can happen that you accidentally navigated to a Klangio App for which is different from the Klangio Subscription that you bought. In this case, try this:

  1. Confirm which Klangio Subscription you have bought (i.e. Piano2Notes Pro, Scan2Notes Pro, Klangio Universe) with the receipt you received via mail after your purchase. Also make sure that there are no typos in the email for which you have purchased the subscription.
  2. Navigate to klang.io and click on the “Products” section at the top of your screen. Select the app for which you have purchased a subscription.
  3. Click on the “Login” button in the top right corner or open up the menu in the top right corner and click on “Login” if you are using your smartphone.
  4. Make sure you are using the email address of the Klangio Account, which you have also used when purchasing your subscription.

Contact Us!

In case, you still don’t have access to your premium features or your account, then please wait for one hour and try it again. If even this doesn’t help, please reach out to us via our contact form and let our chatbot know that you have already tried all these steps and would like to talk to one of our support team members.

I hope that explains how to activate your Klangio Subscription, if it doesn’t do so automatically.

Feel free to check out the other articles in our Help Center, if you have questions about your Klangio Subscription.

If you want to transcribe single instruments into their notation, you’ve come to the right place! In this step-by-step guide, I will show you how to use Melody Scanner’s Universal Mode.

What is the Universal Mode?

Other than the Arrangement Mode and the Lead Sheet Mode, the Universal Mode can transcribe songs, that only contain one instrument. That is because the app will not generate a score that harmonizes with the song, but instead try to analyze it and create an accurate transcription for that specific instrument.

Before trying out the Universal Mode, check out the other Klangio apps. They have a higher accuracy at transcribing than the Universal Mode.

Step 1: Create a Melody Scanner Account

Go to melodyscanner.com and click “Try it For Free” to sign up or log in.

The melody scanner homepage
Click on “GET STARTED FOR FREE” to log in or sign up.

Step 2: Open the Universal Mode

In your Melody Scanner songbook, hover over the + icon and click “YouTube to Sheet.” Select the Universal Mode.

Hover over the green "+" and select "YouTube to Sheet"
Hover over the green “+” and select “YouTube to Sheet”
Click on "Universal Mode"
Click on “Universal Mode”

Step 3: Choose Your Settings

Next, select the instrument you want to generate a sheet for and click on “NEXT”. Now you can paste in a YouTube Link of a song, or search for it directly in the search bar.

Select either Piano, Guitar, Bass, Vocals, Violin, Flute or Saxophone.

Step 4: Transcribe

Melody Scanner’s AI will now create a transcription for the instrument you’ve selected. Within seconds, you will be presented with the notes of the generated transcription. If that’s all you need, you can export it as a PDF file.

Click on “Download” and select “Export as PDF” to download the sheet music for free.

Step 5: Edit Your Lead Sheet (Premium)
